And everyone else says Santa?

I say Santa but my posh DH and all his family and posh friends say Father Christmas.

Anyone else noticed this? Or AIBU?

I can't vote for the SNP, I'm in Northumberland. Where everyone I know has always said Santa/Santy Xmas Grin

The amount of people on this thread thinking they’re being funny or whatever by saying “‘no because I’m not American” or similar.

As tons of posters have already said, Santa is the norm in Scotland.

And even if it was only in America, who gives a fuck?! What’s so wrong with America that tons of people freak out if we use one of “their” words?

Knowhowufeel · 06/12/2019 20:07

'Father Christmas' is an English thing whilst 'Santa' is more of an American term (IMHO, anyway).

Devora13 · 06/12/2019 20:07

Of course Santa is an anagram of Satan. Make of that what you will in the current dumb down climate. And yeah, grew up in what is now called social housing, where I also learned to think for myself.

Knowhowufeel · 06/12/2019 20:08

So, imo, YABU.

Venger · 06/12/2019 20:08

Same.

If Scotland go independent I reckon we should campaign to be next, it worked for us back in the day.

astralweaks · 06/12/2019 20:09

I agree with those who say that Americans are being treated to some snide - and some not so snide - abuse by certain posters.

This sort of unpleasantness would not be permitted to stand if other nationalities or races were being treated in a similar way. Is it too much to ask that there is some level of consistency applied by mods?

PineappleDanish · 06/12/2019 20:12

And Father Christmas is an anagram of Shifters March At. or Starfish Meth Arc. Or Fritters Cam Hash.

Clearly a total deviant. Xmas Hmm

derxa · 06/12/2019 20:13

I never used to believe that MN was gradually dumbing down but this thread is clear evidence that it has gone to the dogs.

Devora13 · 06/12/2019 20:13

Ah yes, had a feeling there was a bit of Pagan background...

Did you make this bizarre point earlier? Confused

60 years old, Scottish and have always said Santa Claus. Don't know anyone, apart from English people , who says Father Christmas.

Venger · 06/12/2019 20:19

We could get our kingdom back!

For the North!!! Crown Smile

chipsychopsy · 06/12/2019 20:20

I think this thread might even persuade the DUP to rethink their allegiance to the union.

Silverstar20 · 06/12/2019 20:21

I'm Scottish and I always say Santa. My English DW and her family always said Fatherr Christmas. Now my DS and his (very lovely) American wife always say Santa, so I think Santa wins.

I've asked directly for this. Heard nothing back so far.

itcoldoutside · 06/12/2019 20:24

Halloween is Irish

PreseaCombatir · 06/12/2019 20:24

You're wrong. Read my post above

I was going off of the info footchewer provided. It’s all very interesting

itcoldoutside · 06/12/2019 20:25

@Logjam

I feel the same

HoldMyLobster · 06/12/2019 20:26

Meanwhile here in the US...

My husband (American) says Father Christmas.

I (Scottish origin) say Santa.

My children use both.

Their Scottish cousins mostly say Santa.

HoldMyLobster · 06/12/2019 20:27

English people are narrow minded idiots - I don't mean that really but they are over represented on this thread!

They certainly haven't come across well here.

itcoldoutside · 06/12/2019 20:28

Who is posh???

People are born posh and usually hate it and rebel ... aka PA .

I can only think it's the middle that seems to think posh is an upgraded and that's so funny
