AIBU to think Melania Trump is quite impressive, in a way?

It can't be easy being married to a man like Donald Trump, and it can't be easy being in the public eye so much, but Melania Trump seems to take it all in her stride.
She is always immaculate in her appearance, and always looks so poised and calm, that I can't help being a bit impressed by the way she handles her role.

I realise she's probably had work done, and maybe she's a slave to botox, but I think she is quite striking and beautiful. Just one thing though - I wish she'd stop wearing the stupidly high heels - all her shoes seems to have 6inch heels and sometimes she looks a bit unsteady, especially when negotiating steps.

I'm not keen on her husband, but AIBU to think MT is doing a good job of being First Lady?

I think she hates this role and is tired and stick to death of Trump
She seems a great involved mum

@joyfullittlehippo - do you have evidence for those sweeping statements about MT and DT? If so, please link to it. If not, please don't attempt to pass off your theories as facts.

@joyfullittlehippo - not everything in the media is true, and things get exaggerated and skewed, according to the politics of newspaper editors and other influencial people.

You're barking up the wrong tree if you think I'm non-British - take a look at my posting history if you're still in doubt.

If you look back, you'll find a post of mine where I stated that I was a fan of Obama. I'm no fan of Donald Trump, he's certainly no angel, but I don't think he's as bad as he's painted. I don't have any political point to make, this thread was just started out of curiosity, to see how others feel about MT.

YABU

She is an immigrant who says nothing while her husband trashes other immigrants and enacts policies that harm them and their families.

@joyfullittlehippo - you've really got the wrong end of the stick here. I will try to set the record straight, point by point.

You said "What exactly are you accusing the world press of making up? The nude photos of Melania? The statements from her former professor and screencaptures/cached webpages showing how her official bio was changed? Public record information about her visa status? Videos of her struggling to speak the languages she claims to be fluent in? Videos of her giving speeches which you can compare to videos from years earlier of Michelle Obama giving almost the same speech?"

I was just making a general statement about how newspapers sometimes exaggerate stories. I heard about the nude photos MT did, but wasn't shocked or offended by that. Her wiki bio does state that she dropped out of university - if she tried to cover that up originally that was obviously a daft thing to do. Apparently some bloke drafted her speeches, and later admitted he based them on Michelle Obama's speeches. Not good, using someone else's words, but she might not have known until it was too late. I don't know how fluent she is in other languages, but maybe the DT's press team beefed up her bio a bit?

You said "And you might be British but it’s clear many of the “Obama is the antiChrist and Trump can do no wrong” brigade who have suddenly popped up on this thread are not."

I am British. I have also stated twice on this thread that I am a fan of Obama, but I am no fan of Donald Trump. You're confusing me with someone else.

You said "Besides you started this thread because you liked Melania’s dress sense. It’s quite a shift from that to aggressively defending Trump, and throwing accusations against posters and claiming international conspiracies on the part of the world press to unfairly smear Trump. You’re clearly either a diehard Trump supporter or you have an agenda to promote him and smear his critics, and hiding under a facade of “ohhh I just like his wife’s style” just comes across as weird and disingenuous."

Where on this thread have I aggressively defended Trump, or thrown accusations, or talked of people trying to "unfairly smear Trump"? As for "diehard Trump supporter"... ha, ha, ha, that's ironic, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. Read through my posts again and perhaps you''ll see that you've jumped to the wrong conclusion about me.

As for the final comment, weird I might be, but disingenuous I'm not.

Good night, it's time for bed. Even nightowls like me must go to sleep at some point. If I'm lucky maybe I'll deam about your "wonderful" [sarcasm emoji needed] president... then again, for me that would be a nightmare, but as you have me painted as some kind of DT superfan no doubt you'll not believe me, no matter what I say.

I wouldn't say that Hillary Clinton has charisma - I find her pretty repugnant. I think it was a damning indictment of HC as a person, that the US public preferred Trump.

Well actually, Trump now occupies the WH thanks to the constitutional quirk known as the Electoral College. Clinton won the popular vote by a margin of 3 million.

By contrast, JFK is thought to have won by just over 100,000 votes.

I agree with you Clinton was a poor candidate - her record as Sec of State sucked, and that she had the charisma of an ironing board. But she won the popular vote.

mathanxiety · 06/12/2019 04:41

And I think the fact that the US public in the counties that mattered in the big EC states were swayed by the racist rhetoric, the xenophobia, and the stupid promises ('Bring Back Coal') of Donald Trump says a lot more about those stupid voters than about Clinton.

JolieOBrien · 06/12/2019 04:48

She comes across as being quite hard and in control imho. I had to laugh when Trump tried to hold her hand and she moved it out his way. I think the marriage is one of convenience because what attractive woman in her right mind would want to be married to him. I follow him on twitter and the amount of sexist and racist tweets he makes are disgusting. They are quickly deleted or he makes excuses for them. I feel sorry for his staff he must be a nightmare to work for because he just says what he likes before thinking what impact his words will have on others.

Gardai · 06/12/2019 05:15

I think you protest too much for a seemingly naive original post OP.
Ok, she has some great outfits but I think most of us would look good if we had the money and the team she has. That’s about it.
I don’t look at Melania and think “amazing woman” nor do I feel sorry for her. A woman who has to sleep with Trump and even listen to him for more than one second, stand beside him and represent him mustn’t be the brightest tool in the box imo.

Patroclus · 06/12/2019 05:31

Slovenia isnt like bloody Malawi ffs.

Patroclus · 06/12/2019 05:38

Do people really think she looks great? Im not going to say what I think cos it feels wrong but I wouldnt agree.

I cant feel much but sypathy for her. And the 5 lanuages thing is comedy. Everybody in the balkans speaks about that plus, pretty much by default.

Ifeelinclined · 06/12/2019 05:56

She's a joke. She married him for the money and didn't want him to run for President. I am American and absolutely disgusted by Trump. He's a disgrace, and let's be honest, she knew what she married.

Ifeelinclined · 06/12/2019 05:57

And it truly is a contract. I'm so sick of people pretending otherwise.

ForalltheSaints · 06/12/2019 06:53

I find the concept of First Lady outdated.

Aragog · 06/12/2019 06:59

Good First Lady?

What role has she actually played? Where has she made speeches and got involved with her own work at FL and charities?

Surely that is what makes a good First Lady, bit getting dressed up and putting on a fixed expression showing no signs of emotion and not much interest.

megletthesecond · 06/12/2019 06:59

She hates him.
She must be counting down the days until Jan 2021 / 2025 or when Barron is 18 and she can get the hell out of there. Have you seen the photo of her with the ex presidents at Barbara Bushes funeral? She looks like a different person.

Patroclus · 06/12/2019 07:17

Remember her photo with Justin?

SerenDippitty · 06/12/2019 07:32

If I were an American I'd much rather have a bright, dynamic woman who has her own ideas about things and uses her position to make a difference, like Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton or even Betty Ford.

Or Eleanor Roosevelt. She was AMAZING.

Lweji · 06/12/2019 07:36

GrinGrinGrinGrin

No!

Be best campaign?

She's useless and a good match to her husband.

Lweji · 06/12/2019 07:38

And the 5 lanuages thing is comedy

Mostly because she doesn't. She barely speaks English after so many years and the others are hello and goodbye, it seems.
