to wear a onesie on a long haul flight?

I'm frightened of flying and taking my first ever long haul flight on Saturday! 17hrs straight to Perth. I am packing everything I can think of to make my journey comfortable but am wondering if IABU to wear a onesie on the plane? I have scoliosis so I wriggle into weird positions a lot which makes jeans feel uncomfortable sitting for long periods...yet I find in leggings I get incredibly cold on planes. My late mum bought me a super soft spotty onesie...WIBU to wear it over leggings and a singlet once we board or will I look insane?!

I am absolutely amazed that so many of you can manage to do a full change of clothes in plane toilets, but cannot perceive how someone could use the toilet whilst wearing a onesie without somehow wiping it all over the floor ... I wear a onesie when camping & I can tell you that Seasoned onesie wearers develop a technique for using the loo without dragging them all over the floor - I can manage perfectly fine thank you (and I’ve probably seen far worse loo floors at campsites - mud gets all over the floor in minutes when it’s wet - than any plane toilet I’ve encountered ...)

flyjngfish · 04/12/2019 23:48

I work this route. Change into it on the plane- so many people wear their pjs. It's a long time not to! Also take socks and a big scarf/blanket if you get cold 😃
Enjoy the flight! (It goes by far quicker than you think!)

flyjngfish · 04/12/2019 23:49

And yes you can use your Bluetooth headphones on board 🙂

AliceLittle · 04/12/2019 23:53

Sure, wear the onesie but don't expect a free upgrade.

wombat1a · 05/12/2019 00:03

Bad idea, first of all getting changed into it in the plane toilets will be a nightmare and it'll probably get covered in god knows what. Secondly trying to go to the toilet itself will be a nightmare.

BTW what on earth do you need to pack to make a long haul flight comfortable? I usually get in my seat, put in my noise cancelling earbuds, watch a few movies and sleep. What else do you need?

Aridane · 05/12/2019 00:08

You'll look ridiculous assuming you are over the age of ten, and it will get filthy and covered in other people's piss in the loos

The only one looking ridiculous is you, @Luckingfovely, with your unnecessary and unkind posts

BlouseAndSkirt · 05/12/2019 00:09

All this changing in and out of outfits, is this why it takes forever to use the toilet on a plane for its real purpose

I was thinking this! Along with the beauty regimes (god, remove your make up / put it on in the terminal, surely?) no wonder there are queues.

Aridane · 05/12/2019 00:12

You WILL be judged. You will also find it near impossible to go to the toilet

Who are these people who can't piss wearing a onset without getting covered in piss? It's not that difficult! (And who cares about judgmental twats - they'll judge you whatever)

Aridane · 05/12/2019 00:15

So just wear the damn onesie and look like a idiotic teletubbie and get covered in piss

This wins the thread.^

Yes, for judging cuntiness (though there are some other close contenders)!

mathanxiety · 05/12/2019 00:17

If you hate draughts, pull up the hoodie' s hood. A light scarf to cover your head and neck will keep the overhead air from bothering you.

Have a fantastic holiday, OP.

And, wow, 17 hours ! That's quite a recent route and ground breaking.

Have safe (and comfortable!) travels.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 05/12/2019 00:45

A onesie is fine. I live in Perth and have seen lots of people wearing them on the flight. Whatever makes you comfortable! You wont need it when you get here though, it hot hot hot in Perth at the minute! I don't envy you camping in it at all, and hope you have the budget for alternative arrangements if you struggle in the heat. But have a great time, its bloody lovely here!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 05/12/2019 00:56

I would say layes are the key. You might to hot in a onesie and you won't be abl to do anything about it.

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/12/2019 05:39

The loo would concern me but as you're wearing leggings underneath - can you just unzip and slip off the onesie when you go to the loo?

Comfort is a priority when flying!

NearlyOutedMyself · 05/12/2019 06:22

Primark do thick leggings with a plush furry-type lining. They're really comfy and more like jeggings than leggings iyswim. I wore a pair of these on an overnight flight to Dubai, not as long as 17hrs but long enough!

Sparklybaublefest · 05/12/2019 06:28

You might not be the only one

myself2020 · 05/12/2019 06:29

Don’t do it - plane loos toward the end of a long haul aren’t very nice, and a onesie will be on the floor every time you have to go. a hoodie and trackuit bottoms, or. jumper dress and fleece leggings could work?

Lulu1919 · 05/12/2019 06:32

Tricky in the tiny loo.....some of it would probs touch loo floor ...ugh

user1494050295 · 05/12/2019 06:36

Having flown first class on BA and seeing all the business men get on in suits then change into their pjs I wouldn’t worry about it. Also it’s a mix of a night and day flight so the cabin will be dimmed.

TheSandgroper · 05/12/2019 06:42

I have just read the full thread. I have done Ire to Per in a onesie. Years ago. It was scarlet. So comfortable. I wore a belt for walking.

It’s stinking hot here right now. My tip is pack a no crush sundress and sandals and change before you get off the plane. You will be VERY PLEASED you did this. And yes to packing water and snacks.

stripeypillowcase · 05/12/2019 06:50

for long journeys (and camping) I have a comfy sweat suit.
I get you on the comfort and warmth, but a onsie is quite impractical. plus for business travel our company advises us to always wear cotton as apparently it's safer in a fire...

BringMeTea · 05/12/2019 06:57

Sorry to labour the point but on the toilet issue ALONE do not wear a onesie or a jumpsuit. The toilet floors are utterly grim. In fact there was actual faeces on the seat, the lid and the floor on a recent long haul flight. Any extra need to manoeuvre in a plane loo is to be avoided at ALL cost. As several folks have already mentioned Primark fleecy lined leggings and an over long top or vest with a snuggly top will stop draughts.
I always have a pair of old hotel slippers which I wear over socks then dispose of after flight (creating no more landfill than I would if I had worn them whilst I stayed in said hotel). I have noticed that many people seem happy to go to the loos in socks alone or (Heaven forfend) barefoot. Boak!! Enjoy your holiday. Plenty of sun right now.

Aridane · 05/12/2019 06:58

@stripey - do they advise that also for getting in a car (where statistically disaster / fire is more likely)?

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 05/12/2019 07:01

Who are these people who can't piss wearing a onset without getting covered in piss? It's not that difficult!

It's not about pissing on the onesie it is about is dragging on the manky floor in the communal toilet.

Aridane · 05/12/2019 07:02

Op does not live near a primark

She flies on Saturday . She does not want to go buying new outfits

She feels comfie in her onesie . Her late mother gave it to her and will give her comfort on her first long haul flight

Like many os us, she can go to the loo in a onesie without trailing it in piss

Plus she will be wearing leggings underneath so can always take it off before heading off to the loo
