Stuff going missing

PostcodeJack · 03/12/2019 23:44

Lately things are going missing from the house. Amongst other things, eg. 40 fags from bedside table (no way I smoked 80 fags in 24 hours) and 20 quid from same. 20 quid was in a make up bag that sits in locker that is never out but was on bed, missing tenner, when I got home.

DP denies all knowledge. I've searched the house multiple time but to no avail.

These aren't big things in the scheme of things but having stripped searched the house, I'm at a loss as to where the stuff has gone.

Any ideas as to what's going on other than a) chain smoking ghost with a cash flow issue or b) I'm going nuts?

Is it just you and him living there?

PostcodeJack · 03/12/2019 23:47

Yes. And he's been out when I got home to find missing things

OP posts:
PostcodeJack · 03/12/2019 23:48

Or, more precisely, not find

If it's only you and DP in the house then it's either DP or you're experiencing some memory loss issues and should see your GP.

Gardai · 03/12/2019 23:49

I’m no poirot but I’m afraid DP isn’t looking good here.

PostcodeJack · 03/12/2019 23:52

@gardai he'd also be hard pressed to smoke that much in that time. I did wonder though

OP posts:
Gardai · 03/12/2019 23:53

Maybe he’s an anti smoker ?

gamerchick · 03/12/2019 23:55

Cigs have a resale value.

PostcodeJack · 03/12/2019 23:55

@gardai perhaps a PA method of getting us both to give up?!

OP posts:
Gardai · 03/12/2019 23:57

Ah he smokes as well...the plot thickens...

PostcodeJack · 03/12/2019 23:57

@peachgreen no memory.loss
Other than this potentially

steppemum · 03/12/2019 23:58

does anyone else have a key, or could anyone else have had a key copied?

PostcodeJack · 03/12/2019 23:58

He smokes rollies usually. Doesn't like "proper" fags

OP posts:
GoodDogBellaBoo · 03/12/2019 23:59

Who normally smokes the 40 a day, if half is missing?

Gardai · 03/12/2019 23:59

In MN fashion I’d say he has a heavy smoking mistress and needs the cash to buy her Pinot Grigio (in boxes).

PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:01

Trusted person had keys. Trust that DP isn't taking stuff or trusted person. At a loss

TrainspottingWelsh · 04/12/2019 00:02

Have you got pets, or any possibility a cat has got in, or even rats or mice?

Not that your dog has nicked the money for a few drinks to wash down 40 cigs, but perfectly possible they've knocked them under furniture etc. Or chewed them.

PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:03

@gardai should I LTB?

OP posts:
PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:04

We have cats (now imagining cats in smoking jackets) but have checked under beds etc

OP posts:
steppemum · 04/12/2019 00:04

The only way to solve it, is to have a motion activated camera in the bedroom set on when you are out.
Put something else enticing on your bedside table and wait.

I hope you have read the threads where someone comes in through the attic hatch in a row of terrace houses? ......

PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:05

Terraced house with no access via hatch

Seeingadistance · 04/12/2019 00:06

Elf on the shelf?

T’is the season ... apparently.

PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:10

Enticing? The cats/rats/random people are already making off with stuff!

OP posts:
Baxterbear · 04/12/2019 00:11

Do you have friends who pop in to see you? I once had a so called mate nick a pair of shoes that I'd just bought! If you 100% trust your fella then, it has to be someone who has access (and just cause ) for being in your home? Something fishy is deffo happening for sure.

WizardOfAus · 04/12/2019 00:13
