Stuff going missing

PostcodeJack · 03/12/2019 23:44

Lately things are going missing from the house. Amongst other things, eg. 40 fags from bedside table (no way I smoked 80 fags in 24 hours) and 20 quid from same. 20 quid was in a make up bag that sits in locker that is never out but was on bed, missing tenner, when I got home.

DP denies all knowledge. I've searched the house multiple time but to no avail.

These aren't big things in the scheme of things but having stripped searched the house, I'm at a loss as to where the stuff has gone.

Any ideas as to what's going on other than a) chain smoking ghost with a cash flow issue or b) I'm going nuts?

All joking apart how are things generally of you suspect your other half of pinching off you?

PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:15

Friends have always popped in to look after house when we're away. Never been an issue

I really don't suspect him which it's why it's weird

He’s bringing someone over while you’re out?

steppemum · 04/12/2019 00:23

someone other than your DP is definitely in your house.

PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:23

Nope. He's definitely at work

Did you change the locks when you moved in? COuld a past occupant have keys still?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 04/12/2019 00:26

Do you have a loft hatch that a creepy neighbour has been climbing through 🚬👀

PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:28

Changed all locks. Several times. there is no rational situation orher than DP monitors me and nips back for 40 players and a tenner which Infind unlikely. He's not that morivated!

Agree with motion camera and tempting stuff.

If that's not possible, just tempting stuff, left where you've DEFINITELY left it.

Do you drink? I've got pissed a few times, and couldve sworn, theres no way I could've spent that much/smoked that much?

PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:32

Entire loft is closed but this is now posing questions as to what sort of neighbour breaks in via your hatch?

I think it must be your partner.

One of the first signs of dementia can be accusing family of theft/misplacing items. Are you positive you are not having any memory issues?

VenusTiger · 04/12/2019 00:37

Has DP been sacked and you don’t know?

What does guest say?

Take a day off but don’t tell anyone. Park car round the corner and stay in and hide somewhere - doesn’t have to be in bedroom.

PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:38

Sorry. Last one was @bastard

Topazance · 04/12/2019 00:39

You say trusted person had keys? Do they still have keys? Even though you trust them could they live with someone who would have access to them?

PostcodeJack · 04/12/2019 00:41

Guess says nothing because we don't discuss

Could someone have broken in through window or picked the lock on the door? Was there anything else more obvious that would have been taken if you were robbed (iPads/ jewellery/ electronics)?

ImALostTeddyBear · 04/12/2019 00:43

Do you have a spare phone? Download an app that uses your spare phone as a camera and connects it to your current phone. There's loads of free ones.

It's your DP, or it's the guest.

Find out, by hook or by crook!

safariboot · 04/12/2019 01:45

DP could be gaslighting you.

willowmelangell · 04/12/2019 02:43

When I had a policeman out to discuss a problem, the first thing he asked was, who had keys, then, did teens have access.
So not the key holders but who could get hold of the keys.
I had used the time trusted method of putting a small piece of paper between the door and jamb when I locked up. The paper piece being on the floor when I got home meant the door had been opened while I was out. Place the paper about 12" above the floor. Not noticeable. Do same for your firmly shut bedrooom door. Or you might try putting a sliver of clear tape(Sellotape) over the key hole. If its broken, some used a key. Tell nobody you are setting these up.
It will prove you are not being absent minded etc.

VenusTiger · 04/12/2019 02:54

@willowmelangell what a great idea! Can I ask though, doesn’t you entering knock the paper out? How do you know it’s been opened before you? Are you able to see the paper from the outside but only you know it’s there?
