Are the conservatives really this popular?

Listening to statistician on BBC who reckons the conservatives are head in all polls and will win a majority on election day.

I know only two people voting conservative (mil and dm). Who are all the other conservative voters??

Are the conservatives really going to win the election so easily?

If so...I'm very very sad Sad Wine

I live in a left-wing bubble too, but the reality is the Torries are ahead in the polls.

There is some hope in that their polling lead appears to be shrinking and we're approaching the cusp of hung parliament territory.

refraction · 02/12/2019 22:02

Conservatives are cutting taxes for low earners, Labour are increasing. How the Hell does this make the tories worse? Honestly, labour supporters are completely brainwashed

You can't just make up lies. Boris is that you?

chomalungma · 02/12/2019 22:03

I worry that all those people who voted Brexit because their vote never makes a difference, their town was left behind and they wanted to make a change and they hope that Brexit will be that change are going to be very disappointed when their high expectations are not met by the Conservatives.

I don't know what change people are hoping to see.

Bintheredunthat · 02/12/2019 22:03

Please could a Tory voter (without using personal smears, accusations etc against Jeremy Corbyn or the Labour Party) defend their party to me & tell me what good things the conservatives have done for them, their families, the local area & country as a whole in the last ten years.
What positive examples of the last 10 years of Tory rule can you show me?
Please tell me what you like about the Tory manifesto.

TheNameGames · 02/12/2019 22:05

I've never voted Conservative and am not voting in this election because all the choices are shit.

But I find it staggeringly stupid when I see people post online (and MN is full of it too) "I'm shocked how anyone can think of voting Conservative" and think 'you're going to get a shock (again) when they get voted back in (again)'. Live in an echo chamber and you'll hear the same echo back. The echo might not be the same as what the rest of the country hears, though.

Cinammoncake · 02/12/2019 22:05

I fear they are and that it will be like the referendum all over again in that half the country is incredulous that the other half are up to self harm again. We'll end up with a no deal Brexit at the end of 2020 and that will be disastrous, job losses, severe economic harm to us all. And yet, people still want to do it.
(Since Corbyn won't win, voting Labour or LibDem will just help stand some chance of holding back the worst of it all)

CendrillonSings · 02/12/2019 22:06

Yes, in reality the Tories are the most popular party in the country and have been for quite some time.

Corbyn’s band of economic illiterates and antisemites? Not so much.

minipie · 02/12/2019 22:07

I don’t know anyone who likes the Tories. But I know a lot of people who dislike Corbyn even more.

novasglowx · 02/12/2019 22:09

It's Sod's law these days. FFS Trump got in. Even as a Labour voter I know it won't make one iota of difference. Boris will get in. Funny that my phone tried to autocorrect "Boris" to "virus". The world has gone mad.

novasglowx · 02/12/2019 22:13

And all the women on here who aren't voting are making a mockery of the suffragettes. People died so you can vote. The least you can do these days is exercise your right to vote, and vote for the least worst option. It's shit but it's true. Spoiled ballots and abstinence helps no one.

ArabellaDoreenFig · 02/12/2019 22:14

I like the virtue signalling on these threads the best, there are always posters who pop up to tell us how not only do they vote Labour but they also are personally delivering hand made Christmas hampers and £50 each to all the homeless people in their town, because they are so selfless.

I think we should give medals to those poster because nobody else gives to charity ever, obviously.

chomalungma · 02/12/2019 22:16

Yes, in reality the Tories are the most popular party in the country and have been for quite some time

I wonder what that says about us as a country.......

Logjam · 02/12/2019 22:19

I live in a wealthy area - most people I know earn above £85k - I don't know many who admit to voting conservative, 2 friends, one professes to be labour at heart but is terrified of a Corbyn labour gov because they worry they'll end up paying 85% tax, I think they have become a little confused. Other person is a lifetime tory - her dh votes labour - we don't talk politics - I don't like her political views - they lack compassion and generosity. She is a remainer and thinks BJ is a complete twat so she must be very conflicted. I know I live in a bubble.

sunglasses123 · 02/12/2019 22:20

Anyone going for an all nighter next week? DH did it when Trump was elected and still talks about it now. Trump wasn’t meant to win hence the interest!

Labour have really blown it for themselves and now they just seem to be losing the plot. Today’s give away is 1/3 off rail fares. Someone will be paying for this nonsense, I don’t think Corbyn even knows who that will be. He didn’t even know what % of tax was paid by those earning over £80k and he is one of them!

AgeLikeWine · 02/12/2019 22:25

@BiarritzCrackers

Yes, I saw that focus group, it was incredibly depressing. The Tories are going to win a big majority at this election because Corbyn is entirely useless and unelectable. Britain desperately needs a moderate, competent, progressive pro-European government but that will never happen while Corbyn and his cronies are in charge of the Labour Party.

UrsulaPandress · 02/12/2019 22:26

The suffragettes died to give women the right to vote.

A right that can be exercised or not.

sunglasses123 · 02/12/2019 22:33

I don’t think Corbyn, McDonnell and Abbott can stay if they lose big time. However it’s not over until it’s over. Trump could blow it for Boris and he has called Corbyn a loser.

I am hoping for a Conservative majority and we can start to rebuild and concentrate on our issues within this country but we also have to remember we have very low mortgage rates, very good rates of employment and cheap borrowing. Would like to see the NHS overhauled as opposed to just being flung money. They honestly cannot be trusted with it.

madeyemoodysmum · 02/12/2019 22:35

I’m voting conservative

Why??

  1. My MP has kept our out of hours services going
  2. Cons are not going to tax my dh to the hilt
  3. My MP helped me get my maternity pay when I was self employed ( labour govt at the time)
  4. Boris was a far superior mayor than the current one.
  5. Corbyn will bankrupt the country. I’d rather a strong economy than boom and bust as my kids will have to pick up the tab of his incompetence.
  6. Corbyn wants to punish homeowners by introducing a windfall tax.
  7. Labour keep kicking the can down the road regarding brexit. Business needs a conclusion.
I can go on but can’t be arsed.
Cinammoncake · 02/12/2019 22:37

4. Boris was a far superior mayor than the current one.

Presumably you don't live in London then? As he was pretty shit. Think about it, London overall won't be voting for him in the GE. Speaks for itself.

ArseDarkly · 02/12/2019 22:38

Blaming Labour if the Tories win a big majority. ffs Hmm

refraction · 02/12/2019 22:40

Cons are not going to tax my dh to the hilt

My eyes are rolling so far back in my head? Are you in the top 5 percent of the country?

LabourHere · 02/12/2019 22:42

SadWineWineSad

I really can't take another 4 years of conservative government. I work in the NHS and with the prison and probation services. What I have witnessed over the last 10 years has been heartbreaking. The state of our prisons is shocking. Rats, cockroaches, pigeon poo, segregations areas like dungeons, no staff, whole wings of prisoners high on drugs, officers burning out, getting alcohol problems. The prison service is in the worst state it has ever ever been in. It's shocking. Mental healthcare is seeing cuts upon cuts. Social care system is at breaking point. Homelessness is at record highs. When will.it end. Please please no more out of touch conservatives.

Boris was a far superior mayor than the current one. In what way?

Alsohuman · 02/12/2019 22:47

Corbyn wants to punish homeowners by introducing a windfall tax

It doesn’t say that in the manifesto I read.

ArseDarkly · 02/12/2019 22:48

So it's just about you and yours then madeye? No sense of community, no compassion for others? Yep, you're a Tory all right!
