Listening to statistician on BBC who reckons the conservatives are head in all polls and will win a majority on election day.

I know only two people voting conservative (mil and dm). Who are all the other conservative voters??

Are the conservatives really going to win the election so easily?

If so...I'm very very sad Sad Wine

I'm a conservative voter and to be honest, even if I never was before, I certainly would be now if it meant keeping that plank Corbyn out! It's our duty as decent civilised people.

MaxNormal · 02/12/2019 21:32

Sorry to frighten the left lot.

They'll be the frightened ones after five more years of austerity and cuts.
The Tories as they currently stand are venal, dishonest and vicious and have resorted to the most vile underhanded election campaign.
Corbyn has been vilified in the press and people have fallen for it left right and centre.
I'm not even that keen on the man but the press bias is a joke.

DullPortraits · 02/12/2019 21:35

We will be voting conservative- our family really struggled with money under the last labour government. We didn't come out of struggles until the conservative government got their majority in 2010 and have been secure since then. We are still both low earners as we were pre 2010 and worried the taxing of lower earners again as well as them putting the marriage tax allowance on hold will effect us. Labour are that obsessed with penalising the top earners they care nothing about stamping over the lower earners to do so. Reality being the top earners wouldn't even have a dent put in their income where as it makes a huge difference to families like mine.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 02/12/2019 21:37

I vote Conservative.

Labour's Advent calendar of goodies and freebies are, quite frankly, verging on ridiculous. A new giveaway every day.
I don't particularly like Boris but much prefer him to Corbyn and his socialist utopia plans.

Many traditional lifelong Labour supporters are refusing to vote for JC but one only sees the hectoring praise from his Momentum followers giving the illusion of popularity. There are many shy Tories outside of the MN bubble.

MaxNormal · 02/12/2019 21:38

I actually fine the "left wing bubble" of Mumsnet quite right wing and Tory. Maybe it's an English thing.

Snowy111 · 02/12/2019 21:39

Dull- Would be really interested to hear the exact details of the changes the tories made that improved things for you?

Nessaofbarry · 02/12/2019 21:41

Everyone I know well enough to discuss politics with is voting conservative except maybe 2/3

Andysbestadventure · 02/12/2019 21:43

We were also worse off under Labour @DullPortraits and our household income was 2x 15k wage slips at the time. It was abysmal. The 'just getting by' got zero fucking help from them at all. I'm not a tory, but we've been far better off under them! Especially when we ended up on one 16k wage after DS was born a few years ago.

SaveKevin · 02/12/2019 21:46

I don’t know who the fuck to vote for, Boris the lying twat, Corbyn who couldn’t lead a puppy, Lib Dem’s, couldn’t pick the leader out of a line up, greens where the fuck have they been, this was their time.

littlebillie · 02/12/2019 21:47

Goodness I know lots of people who vote Labour and Conservative, voted Remain and Leave. I think it is really valuable to speak to people and learn from them, as we all have valid opinions even if we don't agree with them. We live fortunately in a democracy.

chomalungma · 02/12/2019 21:48

Well - if you look at the polls, you have to look at how many undecided there are, how many won't vote and the ages.

Then you'll see the Conservatives aren't as popular as they think they are - and that their popularity decreases as voters get younger.

A headline poll is not as interesting as when you look beyond the stats at more details.

If you look at page 2 of this

d25d2506sfb94s.cloudfront.net/cumulus_uploads/document/3e6ngxeco2/TheSundayTimes_VI_Results_191129_w.pdf

You'll see that the stats are:

Conservatives 31%
Labour 26%
Don't know 13%

And there is a big margin of error as well.

There is lots more in those stats that can be picked apart.

Megan2018 · 02/12/2019 21:48

Conservative voter and party member here, I I live in a very rural area which is predominantly Conservative.
I’m not a die hard Tory, have voted Labour and Lib Dem in the past but there is nothing on this earth that would get me to vote Labour or Lib Dem these days.

But yet I have friends across the political spectrum, even some Remainers Wink we manage to respect each others views even when we don’t agree. I don’t understand the people that live in echo chambers-how narrow minded and boring!

BiarritzCrackers · 02/12/2019 21:49

Did anyone else see the focus group on Channel 4 news tonight? This explains a lot of people's reasons for voting Conservative. They love Boris Johnson, and really dislike Corbyn. The things people, former Labour voters, say about BJ are just astonishing; they see a completely different person to the one I do. It's 7 mins, and quite interesting; I normally don't like watching focus groups and vox pops, but I found this compelling. It reminded me of the fictionalised one in that Cummings drama with Cumberbatch, where the Craig Oliver character gets irate about the misinformation being repeated.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/12/2019 21:49

I'm a low earner. Not a MN low earner, which many on here seem to think is anything short of a six figure salary, but a just over minimum wage low earner.

I'm voting Labour. I volunteer in a homeless hostel and under this government the amount of poverty I have seen coming to the door is disgraceful.

I only know one person who is voting Conservative. More who are voting Labour. I know quite a few people who are spoiling their ballots too.

Actionhasmagic · 02/12/2019 21:50

Fuck Johnson

Livelovebehappy · 02/12/2019 21:50

Let’s be honest, I guess if you’re talking about Tory vs labour, then it’s pretty much a no brainer. Corbyn is just so unpopular amongst Labour supporters that the reality is he’s unelectable. I’m voting Tory, but I’ve voted labour before. Wouldn’t with Corbyn in charge though.

littlebillie · 02/12/2019 21:54

I think the press is very Left this time around, the BBC especially. They use very, very emotive language to describe the Conservatives but less so with Labour.

Mintjulia · 02/12/2019 21:56

I don't think popular is the right word, but plenty of people will vote conservative to stop Corbyn.

Including me. I really don't like BJ at all but the prospect of Corbyn & Thornbury anywhere near power is terrifying

ArseDarkly · 02/12/2019 21:56

I agree that a lot of Tory voters don't talk about it unless they're in sympathetic company because they know the reaction they'll get.

I'm a conservative voter and to be honest, even if I never was before, I certainly would be now if it meant keeping that plank Corbyn out! It's our duty as decent civilised people.

There is literally nothing decent or civilised about Boris Johnson.

crispysausagerolls · 02/12/2019 21:56

Brexit and trump have shown, or should have shown, that lots people secretly vote on the right and don’t air this beforehand for fear of being pilloried.

Therefore I would not be surprised if tories do even better than expected. So, so many secret Tory voters. Threads on here always seem to have a labour majority for this very reason - few people want to openly admit to supporting (or, dare I say it, LIKING) Boris for fear of being ripped to shreds in this echo chamber. Ditto Facebook.

Social media and polls simply are not representative of people.

user1471448556 · 02/12/2019 21:58

I find it hard to conceive of why any woman would want Boris as PM. He’s such a misogynist. The Tories are no longer pro business and pro the union - Brexit pissed on both of those values. Lots of Tory friends of mine will be voting LD, some will even be tactically voting for Labour because of Brexit. Not sure why people are so terrified of Corbyn - he won’t get a majority - it’s mathematically impossible due to Scotland turning away from them and towards the SNP. Corbyn will have to work with others... and some of his policies sound pretty good to me anyway, despite the fact that personally I’ll be paying a lot more tax - worth it to reverse the figures on child poverty, food banks, NHS waiting times ... and to prevent a hard Brexit.

Wait4nothing · 02/12/2019 21:59

I think our midlands ex mining area will turn from labour to conservatives (heavily leave area and close constituency did last time). Locally we will suffer - I don’t understand people who vote for Con over labour when thinking how austerity has affected our area. I’ll be voting labour (and donating to the Christmas food hamper and present appeal to give families in our area a nicer Christmas because they can’t afford to feed themselves never mind buy gifts for the kids)

FrostythefeckinSnowman · 02/12/2019 21:59

I agree OP, it’s very depressing.
Boris the clown has wasted hundreds of millions since he’s been in charge yet no-one cares. As long as they think they’ll keep their jobs, houses and low taxes, that’s all that matters.

Fuck the poor.

Sad state of affairs indeed. Angry

chomalungma · 02/12/2019 21:59

Social media and polls simply are not representative of people

You remember the last election?

Only 2 years ago. We had social media then, polls and an unpopular Conservative Government.

And look how that turned out for the Conservatives.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/12/2019 22:00

I know lots of people who vote both Labour and Conservative all are decent and hard working

I think those of the left tend to be more vocal and it’s seen as being more open minded, kinder more caring which I certainly don’t think is necessarily true

Of course the conservatives are popular they have won far more elections and they are very adaptable being in power is more important than sticking to an ideology
