To not understand some mnetters obsession with wearing pyjamas

Sure, it's nice on a dark winter's evening to relax in pj's in front of the telly. But I see threads on here where posters can't wait to get in the door after work to put them on, or don't want visitors on Christmas day because they can't stay in their pyjamas etc etc.
What's the big deal about wearing pyjamas? Yes they're comfy but it's not like most modern clothes are tortuous to wear.

PhoneLock
I wear clothes that are not uncomfortable, not sure what people are wearing if tracksuit bottoms are the holy grail of comfiness.

I do change when I come back from work, for clothes, mainly because my work clothes are expensive and it's easier to deal with house/chores/children/dogs in casual and cheaper clothes that can just be plonked in the washing machine when I am done with them.

I don't feel comfortable in pjs in the middle of the day, so what

raisinseverywhere · 02/12/2019 14:01

I wouldn’t want to wear PJs that I’ve been wearing all evening to cook in, eat and clear up, so would then need another pair to change into before bed. I don’t see the point. I wear comfy clothes when I’m not at work and have jogging bottoms and jumpers that are comfortable to wear round the house, but nice enough to keep on when doing the school run, picking up DC or popping to the shops.

FizzyIce · 02/12/2019 14:01

@Beswitched Because that’s exactly what it sounds like ..
I don’t see an issue with people who like wearing pyjamas when they’re indoors , it’s not my thing but who gives a fuck if they do?
And I’ll “lurk” wherever I like thanks Grin

ursuslemonade · 02/12/2019 14:02

Do you all have a shower before you put your pyjamas on? Let's say you do a 12 hour shift, get home at 7pm (feeling not so fresh anymore), do you jump in them straight away? And later? Before bed do you have a wash and put some clean ones on?
That's what I want to know. 😀
Btw when I'm indoors I wear leggings and a top/cardigan.

OrangeZog · 02/12/2019 14:04

Yes, @ursuslemonade, home, quick run, shower, pjs and wind down for bed.

PhoneLock · 02/12/2019 14:05

I don't feel comfortable in pjs in the middle of the day, so what

Have you tried it though?

I must admit that I don't actually know anybody who wears PJs for anything other than sleeping.

ursuslemonade · 02/12/2019 14:07

Aah but no one mentioned showering earlier (or I haven't seen it) 😀

Beswitched · 02/12/2019 14:10

@Fizzyice

I think maybe you do need a pyjama day. You sound a bit wound up 😁

I don’t understand why people find taking a bra off more comfortable. If a bra is uncomfortable, it’s the wrong size.

SoupDragon · 02/12/2019 14:16

If a bra is uncomfortable, it’s the wrong size.

Not necessarily. Even a perfectly fitting bra doesn't feel like you're wearing nothing.

pigsDOfly · 02/12/2019 14:18

I get up in the morning, shower and put on my clothes - usually skinny jeans - for the day and they stay on until I change into pyjamas to go to bed.

I just couldn't sit around in pyjamas in the day it would make me feel like an invalid.

If you feel the need to remove any item of clothing as soon as you walk through the door, be it bra or jeans, then maybe you're wearing the wrong size. I'm hardly aware of my bra and my jeans don't dig in any more at the end of the day than they did at the beginning.

I can understand changing out of work clothes when you get home but why opt to change into nightwear rather than a different sort of day wear.

PotteryWheel · 02/12/2019 14:22

This is something I've only ever encountered on here, to be honest, likewise the taking off of bras as soon as you're in the door -- I can absolutely see why you might want to take off whatever you've been wearing all day if it's an uncomfortable uniform, or your work is dirty and/or outdoor and you come home filthy, or dressed for outdoors, but people up the thread are referring to jeans as though they're extreme corsets, which I honestly don't recognise.

I'm working from home today, and as DH took DS to school for once, I haven't left the house, but am dressed in jeans and a woollen top (and a bra!) and am not in the slightest discomfort.

TheHootiestOwl · 02/12/2019 14:23

my DC would like to live in their pyjamas

Mine would be naked given half a chance.

eenymeenyminyme · 02/12/2019 14:26

I get changed into jeans / combats type stuff when I get in from work. Pyjamas are for sleeping in, and I'll only get changed into them outside of my bedroom if I've had a late shower and can't be bothered to put day clothes back on before bedtime.

I don't get the fascination with taking your bra off (not specifically your bra, you know what I mean! Blush) either - what's that all about? Is it a bigger boob thing? I've only got a B cup so it doesn't make any difference to me whether it's on or off, comfort wise.

TheElfFellOffTheShelf · 02/12/2019 14:30

My PJs are made of a softer material than my outdoor clothes. They're warmer because I can wear my thermals underneath them. They're also stretchier and don't cut my abdomen in half unlike jeans. I associate my work trousers with work and being busy so I don't feel I can relax in them.

DM1209 · 02/12/2019 14:31

I 'dress up' for a very professional job every single day, think Courtroom, Judges and heels.

As soon as I get in I literally strip naked and put on a onesie in this weather or a vest and shorts in the summer.

I am not in any way physically uncomfortable in my professional attire and I am very fit and healthy but once I'm home, I'm in pyjamas and I love it!!

YABU.

herecomesthebacon · 02/12/2019 14:41

I WFH and live in pyjamas. I put on leggings and a sweatshirt to do the nursery run or if I have to go out to the supermarket or post office etc during the day, then I'm back in my jammies.

If I go out for a meeting, I wear the most comfortable smart outfit possible and then am back in my comfies the minute I get home.

Life's too short for uncomfy clothes.

Lovemusic33 · 02/12/2019 14:41

I have just got in from work, I always smell after work (don’t ask) so I go straight in the bath/shower and then put PJ’s on if I don’t have to go out again, I find normal clothes are uncomfortable (mainly wear skinny jeans or gym clothes). I don’t care if anyone pops over when I’m in my pj’s though.

Lovemusic33 · 02/12/2019 14:42

I don’t ever wear pj’s in bed though 🤣, would get too hot. Always sleep naked.

eenymeenyminyme · 02/12/2019 14:43

Why is everyone wearing uncomfortable clothes in the first place?! I wouldn't wear clothes which are uncomfortable, maybe that's why I don't get the pyjamas and loungewear thing?

egontoste · 02/12/2019 14:45

There's a lot of people I don't understand full stop!

8Iris8 · 02/12/2019 14:57

I'm a grown-up and can sit in a sofa of an evening without immersing myself in slankets, steaming hot chocolate, snuggly throws, comfy pjs and fluffy slippers!
This sounds like a very austere way to live to me! But agree with PPs who cares what other people do in their own homes :)

AryaStarkWolf · 02/12/2019 15:00

Bra off, PJs on....heaven, I don't care what you think Grin

WorryBadger · 02/12/2019 15:01

Oh lord, yes, put different pyjamas on to actually go to bed. Fuzzy, cosy things for lounging about, shorts and vest top for sleeping.

And once one is in one's pyjamas, one cannot then be called upon to perform any outdoorly duties such as nipping to the shops or collecting the child from the childminder etc..

Schwibble · 02/12/2019 15:04

Some people forget to change out of PJ's when going to the shop, school run, doctors/vets/dentists...

And apparently wearing jeans in the house means there is something wrong with my life.
