To not understand some mnetters obsession with wearing pyjamas

Sure, it's nice on a dark winter's evening to relax in pj's in front of the telly. But I see threads on here where posters can't wait to get in the door after work to put them on, or don't want visitors on Christmas day because they can't stay in their pyjamas etc etc.
What's the big deal about wearing pyjamas? Yes they're comfy but it's not like most modern clothes are tortuous to wear.

I have big boobs (F cup) since having DD, but they don't really need support in the house when I'm not doing much.

VictoriaBun · 02/12/2019 12:31

For me it's about ' taking the day off '. You've been at work all day and adopted your work persona,. Get back home, wash the day off ( bath\shower ) and get into something comfy. Nothing better.

TheHootiestOwl · 02/12/2019 12:32

I get changed into my pyjamas at bedtime, unless I shower after I’ve been for a run in the evening.

I don’t take my bra off the minute I get in the door either. That’s not something I understand, and I’m an F cup. My bras are comfy.

Thestrangestthing · 02/12/2019 12:32

I don't get the bra removal thing, either. If wearing a bra is less comfortable than going without, then that means it's time to get a new bra because the old ones no longer fit.

Sorry but no matter how well a bra fits, it will never fit me so well that I can't even feel it. Boobs should never be trapped!

HarrietTheFly · 02/12/2019 12:34

I never wear a bra, I find them all uncomfortable. I went for a fitting recently and was told I could wear a 28d or a 30c. I bought a 30c as 28ds don't seem to exist. It is uncomfortable and doesn't fit properly.

Right now I am wearing thermals, 2 pairs of pyjama bottoms and jogging bottoms on my bottom half, a vest, t-shirt, 3 sweatshirts on my top half. 2 dressing gowns on top of that. The heating is on and I feel a bit cold. Blush

I find most normal clothes uncomfortable. I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm not overweight and don't wear things that are too tight or made out of scratchy materials. The most comfortable thing for me are loose dresses with no tights, but it's too cold at this time of year.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 02/12/2019 12:35

I cook in pyjamas, yes. I often put them on as soon as I get home in winter as they are warm and cosy. In summer I keep my day clothes on. When I actually go to bed the bottoms come off as I hate having anything round my legs in bed and sleep in knickers and jammie top in winter or knickers and vest in summer.

Abigpileof · 02/12/2019 12:37

Some people wear uniforms for work. They have to get changed into something. Choice is theirs as to what. Pyjamas are a good comfy choice, surely!

MargotB7 · 02/12/2019 12:38

If I'd slept in them I would put a fresh pair on if I was having PJ day.

VignetteStonemoss · 02/12/2019 12:39

I wear jeans most of the time but I don't find them remotely relaxing to wear at home so during the winter months I will get changed into my PJs at every available opportunity as they're comfy, cosy and the sort of thing you can just relax in. I don't ever wear them to bed though as I would be far too hot- I sleep in a vest and knickers.

Iwantacookie · 02/12/2019 12:40

Because pjs are amazing. Nothing better then getting in for the day and putting your pjs and big fluffy dressing gown on.
If I wasnt going out later ide be in my pjs now.

StinkyWizleteets · 02/12/2019 12:43

My neighbours put their jammies on as soon as they get in from work - summer or winter. I envy them really.

ActualHornist · 02/12/2019 12:44

@Mia1415 I take my pjs off for bed and sleep in the nip!

Nojustyou · 02/12/2019 12:44

YANBU

I don't get it either.

I feel more comfortable with a bra than without until I am in bed - maybe because I am so used to sports bras who REALLY keep everything strongly in place that a standard bra is barely there.

I would feel grubby in pyjamas too, and it's so unpractical.
Even when I am sick I try to wear some day clothes as soon as I can get out of bed.

and I really but really don't get why people buy so many uncomfortable clothes! Even skinny jeans, they are usually so smooth, they are more comfy than regular jeans. There might have been a time when women were stuck in corset, long and unpractical dresses and all sorts, but nowadays, how can anyone not find clothes that fit, are comfy apart from pjs?

Honestly don't get it.

KatharinaRosalie · 02/12/2019 12:46

Do people do the cooking etc whilst wearing their pyjamas?

That's the other thing, I would not want to go to bed in clothes that I've worn for several hours for cooking, eating, doing housework etc.

Yetanotherwinter · 02/12/2019 12:47

It’s about being comfy. I wear gym stuff in the house rather than jamas. Staying in jamas all Christmas Day is just lazy.

rhubarbcrumbles · 02/12/2019 12:48

I always change out of outdoor clothes when I get home at the end of the day, it's lovely to put something comfy on like leggings and a t-shirt and relax, it's the only way I can switch off. We know we won't get visitors so why not?

Tensixtysix · 02/12/2019 12:50

As a child I only ever wore PJs during the day when I was sick.
So now, I can't wear them if it's not night as it makes me feel of 'sickness'.
I'd rather get into a nice warm tracksuit Smile

WheresMyChocolate · 02/12/2019 12:51

YANBU

Pyjamas leave things a bit too wobbly for anything other that sleeping.

Jolonglegs · 02/12/2019 12:52

No I don't get it either. I suppose the concept of 'lounge wear' has meant that some people equate it with PJ's, as some posters have said they come home and put their PJ's on. Then when they go to bed they take them off!
I try and make sure all my clothing is comfortable, but accept that when wearing suits at work I do take them off and wear tops and leggings. I can't remember ever taking my bra off when I arrive home. I don't really want them flopping about.

MaidenMotherCrone · 02/12/2019 12:52

I don't care what anyone else thinks or wears. Some days I don't get dressed because I do as I please.

Nojustyou · 02/12/2019 12:52

I honestly don't get the point of tracksuits or joggers either, they are not that comfy - where do people buy their clothes?!!

Joggers are great to cover up when you are wet or cold to go home, it's just another layer, but I don't understand the obsession for them either. The amount of parents pretending that their children could not possibly wear anything else... Confused

newnameforthis76 · 02/12/2019 12:57

I don't really understand why so many people on Mumsnet are so bothered by what other people wear in their own homes.

Why are people's personal preferences, which have no impact on anyone else whatsoever, such a big deal? I don't get it. Just do whatever makes you feel comfortable and let everyone else sort themselves out.

Nojustyou · 02/12/2019 13:02

it's not a big deal, it's a question, a light hearted musing.

I don't get why people need to spend at least 2 hours frantically running around when they expect visitors either. I don't care or judge, I just don't understand it.🤷

BlackSwanGreen · 02/12/2019 13:02

I'm with you, OP, but my DC would like to live in their pyjamas Smile

Thehagonthehill · 02/12/2019 13:03

But what kind of PJ's are we talking.
When I think of them I think of the brushed cotton ones where the tops have buttons, they are probably a pastel colour and have bunnies on them.
I slept naked as I get tangled in night wear though occasionally wear fluffy socks.
