Inspired by another, more serious thread. Am curious.. how many Mumsneters have, at some point in their lives taken anything stronger than smoking a bit of weed?

Yanbu for yes
YABU for no

Speed. Grim.

SpiderCharlotte · 01/12/2019 08:23

If you've not taken party drugs you've never fucking lived

This just isn't true.

HowToBeAWoman · 01/12/2019 08:28

Yes, in my teens and early twenties. I regularly took ecstasy and coke. Tried (and disliked) acid and speed. Smoked loads of weed. Rarely drank alcohol, though.

I stopped when I got a ‘career’ job and my social circle changed. I guess I just grew up.

Now I’m my forties and haven’t touched anything stronger than a glass of wine for nearly 20 years. I’m a lightweight these days and drugs hold no interest. Even the smell of someone smoking weed makes me feel sick. Some of my old ‘raver’ mates still indulge at festivals now and then.

lilgreen · 01/12/2019 08:31

They’ve never held any lure for me. Too scared to take those sort of risks.

QuizzlyBear · 01/12/2019 08:33

YANBU

QuizzlyBear · 01/12/2019 08:34

Weed pretty regularly today but ecstasy, speed, lsd etc back in the late 90s - not since.

Mylittlepony374 · 01/12/2019 08:34

Loads. Taken every drug I know of except heroin. You'd never know to meet me.

QuizzlyBear · 01/12/2019 08:36

....oh, and shrooms! Just remembered. They were fun.

heartsandkisses01 · 01/12/2019 08:37

Yabu but to be honest I don't know many people who have not taken drugs

Juliette20 · 01/12/2019 08:38

Yes, smoked a fair bit of weed and took some speed and coke at university as well. Never tried LSD as I was scared of what hallucinations my brain might produce. Tried Es but they never worked for me.

DD1 is now 14 - there may be some interesting discussions on drugs coming up. I would have to be honest, but at least I can speak from experience.

Juliette20 · 01/12/2019 08:41

I would actually like to try magic mushrooms, given the right circumstances, and perhaps LSD. Less scared of my imagination these days.

JustDanceAddict · 01/12/2019 08:42

Only weed! Preferred drinking.

dayswithaY · 01/12/2019 08:47

Gen X here, everyone I knew in late 80s/early 90s was a user - all had jobs just used to party hard at the weekends it seemed to be the thing then. Most people drifted away from it and generally grew up. I had some amazing unforgettable nights dancing in fields. I shudder now when I think about blindly swallowing tablets without knowing what was in them and I'm terrified about my children doing the same. I knew some people that became addicts and two that died, mainly from just carrying on when others stopped.

I did love speed. Chewing gum anyone?

LakieLady · 01/12/2019 08:49

I'm 64 so hit my teens in the late 60s. Grin I've tried most things I can think of, bar ketamine and methamphetamine, or these modern synthetics like spice. For a few years, dropping some acid was a standard Saturday night thing among my crowd.

I didn't enjoy speed or smack, so never got into them, thankfully. I'd probably still be treating myself to a bit of coke now and again, but the quality dropped so badly in the latter part of the 90s that I just stopped buying it. And I don't smoke weed any more because it's so strong it just floors me.

I'd still drop an E though, if I was offered one when I happened to be in the right frame of mind for it.

Only one person I know ever developed an addiction to drugs, but a few of my old crowd ended up alcoholics and 2 friends basically drank themselves to death. A 3rd is well on the way to doing the same.

Caramel78 · 01/12/2019 08:52

Yanbu. Did some pills and coke when I was about 19-21. In my early 30s now and haven’t done anything since as it didn’t appeal and I only did it because of stupid peer pressure at the time. I occasionally smoke weed now but that’s also losing its appeal too

TisTheSeasonToBeJollyFaLaLa · 01/12/2019 09:00

No, I've not even tried smoking cigarettes. I went travelling in my mid 20s and it was a running joke about me never trying anything, many didn't believe me. Travelling was actually the first time I'd ever met people who had/were doing drugs, pretty much everyone I'd met had tried something. My housemates did them every weekend but never told me until I was moving out, I just thought they'd got vv drunk when they came home and I didn't see them for a day.

I sound like a nun, I did drink and love a good time back in the day it just never involved trying anything dodgy. I went to a v sporty uni too so it wasn't part of the culture, well not in my circles. Funny thing is my parents never told me or my siblings not to do drugs they've not either, my parents have tried weed though (I found out as an adult). I hope my kids are like me, I'd like to think I'll take my parent's approach and trust their judgement.

Fizzypoo · 01/12/2019 09:00

Apart from weed, crack was my first proper drug. I smoked crack and sometimes smack in my early teen years. I stopped smoking crack and started raving and taking pills - technically harm reduction. Had the best time of my life! There really is a spiritual feeling of being off your head in a field and feeling part of the music. Had kids and stopped. I would do pills again - if I had 2 weeks off work after and not feel guilty.

I'm really glad I went the pills and raving route rather than the heroin route. I loved heroin - smoked it once a week for about a year - that would have been harder to give up than recreational drugs that made me enjoy life again.

Salene · 01/12/2019 09:12

Yes lots as a teenager into 20's - late 1990's - 2000's
Socially on nights out but smoked weed daily
Stopped completely around mid 20's and never been interested since. I don't even really drink either , the odd night here and there but that's about it

I'm now a mother and a working professional so it's just not something I'd ever be remotely interested in again. It was a lot of fun at the time though , with my friends.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 01/12/2019 09:14

No never.
Knew too many people who overdosed in their prime.

MerchantOfVenom · 01/12/2019 09:18

YANBU.

Pills and coke in the late 90s / early 00. Great fun, many a lost night in clubs up and down the country, and of course Ibiza.

Then I grew out of it.

Completely recreational. Had a fun few years, and then moved on, never looked back. Don't miss it, but definitely don't regret it.

No horror stories here, of 'My Drug Hell'. It was what it was, as I suspect it was for many, many others too.

Jenpop234 · 01/12/2019 09:27

In my early 20s I tried speed, E and coke quite a few times. Have never been a fan of weed, just made me sleepy. It was all fun and I had some pretty good nights out at the time but then I'd see people who'd taken it too far who began taking heroin and ketamine and they ended up ruined so I decided to stop. That plus as I got older I couldn't cope with the come down anymore. Haven't taken any drugs for over ten years now.

RuthW · 01/12/2019 09:28

Have never taken anything including weed. Have smoked about ten cigarettes and never been totally drunk. I'm 51 and have never been in the company of anyone taking drugs, never seen any and never been offered any.

StayDetermined · 01/12/2019 09:30

Shrooms once while they were still legal, coke maybe twice (didn’t like it, people talk crap on it, horrid come downs. A little bit of pot but as a non smoker I never really enjoyed joints and eating it made me whitey.
Too much alcohol.

adaline · 01/12/2019 09:38

No, never touched anything, not even weed.

Infamy · 01/12/2019 09:39

Mid forties so generation x I think.

In common with many of you, weed, MDMA , mushrooms, coke. Loved mdma! Last time I took mdma I was 30. I’ve had coke twice in the past 15 years. Children are older now - if I was away without them and had the opportunity and no children the next day, I’d partake.

Sadly no opportunities these days and my partner wouldn’t approve!
