To not tip the takeaway delivery guy?

DH is out tonight, ordered myself a small pizza.

Came to 4.60, with delivery fee and 'card charge' the total was 8.50

Delivery driver dropped it off, but as I didn;t have any change I didn't tip. Felt bad about it, till I thought that if I tipped I would have paid more in 'charges' than my actual food.

AIBU?

Ated
You are something else, name the places you go as if London based I probably know the owners. As for bettering myself I really don’t need to. I own 3 restaurants and don’t even take tips as my staff get them all. This gets you good staff. If you know all these restaurateurs you would tip believe me. The staff must hate your cheapskate ways. Looking down your nose at peoples jobs, you really are a piece of work.

Wtf with all these outraged skint people saying they can't afford tips on takeaways?

Takeaways are literally the most expensive option an evening meal at home. I mean how hard is it to buy a frozen pizza on the way home? I literally haven't had a takeaway in years.

I’ve been fortunate enough to stay in many fine hotels and eat at their restaurants and invariably I dine with the Chef and his staff, eating what we want after the diners have left.

That’s what Nando’s do.

Proseccoagain · 03/12/2019 20:34

I pay on delivery from the Chinese, and round it up to the pound, or say if the bill is £18.75, I would give him £20.

urkidding · 03/12/2019 21:23

Surely, people should be paid a fair rate for the job. What about lowest level of nursing staff, and porters?
Tipping is a way of transfering the responsibility of the business owner to the customer. Surely, you should tip the people at the tills and those who stock the shelves at Sainsbury's? It is a sick system inherited from the USA where millionaires don't pay a fair wage. I know people don't like this opinion, but we have to stop tipping.

tararabumdeay · 04/12/2019 21:21

FGS these people are living on their boot straps. 10% is nothing if you're living it large.

RollOnNextYear · 04/12/2019 21:25

I've occasionally done it. More so when they're stood scrambling for change and it's cold and I want the door shut and eat 😂
We generally collect so it's rare for a delivery

@threatmatrix

Ated Because waiters have to go above and beyond. Listening to people talking shot and all there problems, cleaning the big mess they and there brats leave behind, smiling nicely when some twat is changing the menu knowing the chef is going to rip you a new arsehole, helping disabled people in and out, trying your best to stop a screaming baby so twats like you can enjoy your meal. The list is endless. If you don’t tip stay the fuck indoors.
But you could say that about any job, it’s the employers responsibility to pay you a proper wage, you shouldn’t rely on tips.
LegMeChicken · 01/04/2022 13:18

YANBU. Why would you need to tip?
It’s ‘nice’ if you wanted but not required. Unless they went above and beyond.

You’re not a Scrooge for paying the advertised price

LegMeChicken · 01/04/2022 13:19

@urkidding exactly. Disgusting practice

LegMeChicken · 01/04/2022 13:22

Also while I’ve seen loads of riders in bikes etc all of mine have come in cars. I’d probably tip a biker in bad weather but that’s about it for ‘normal’

housemaus · 01/04/2022 13:31

I always tip delivery drivers, the pay is shite - I'm paying for the convenience of not having to leave my house and they're barely getting anything for it.

cantbecoping · 01/04/2022 13:50

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS tip my delivery guys without fail. My older children do the same when they order to the house too as do their friends.

Catflapkitkat · 01/04/2022 14:22

Some truly tight beggers on here.

I always tip the delivery in cash. Would order one with checking I had enough cash for a good tip
