Thought it might be fun, posting here for traffic.
What do you get for free or at a very small cost that others pay for?
This is supposed to be fun by the way...
For example
I never pay for yoga classes (family member is the teacher)
I never pay for stationary or printing (get them from work)
I never pay full price for Fatface or Debenhams purchases as I have good friends working there.

What are your freebies?

Nothing. Ever. I work for the NHS and have virtually no family.

ign0re · 29/11/2019 17:12

don't pay rent or house associated bills - courtesy of ILs - have terrible guilt about this but make up for it by having them all come to stay with us whenever they like...
free health club membership - courtesy of friend working there
40% off phone bill - courtesy of ex partner from over 5 years ago who no longer even works at that company

gosh im a lucky sod

Views of beautiful countryside
Butterflies in the summer
Wind in the trees

We go to film sets quite often as my husband works on them. The kids love it. Freebies when I was working was limited to a decent lunch every now and then when seeing clients and travelling around London courtesy of our chauffeur. It was actually a good way to see the sights as depending on who the driver was, we'd go the scenic /long routes to get to various government departments.

Both brother in law and best mate work at vacuum cleaner manufacturers (different ones). But sadly only ever need one vacuum at a time and not a regular purchase.

I used to work in events and got loads of freebies. Champagne was quite common but got a wheel of cheese once. Other freebies included Speedo goggles and a Facebook branded toothbrush (just what everyone needs)

We have a small holding in Cornwall so get our eggs and fruit and veg for free when in season. I also work in a fairly small town and run a small business so often 'swap' my services for half a side of lamb, plants, riding lessons, wine etc..

DH gets given jars of home-made pickled onions by someone who lives near his work. They are eye-wateringly good.

Lweji · 29/11/2019 17:35

I can ask colleagues or DBro to write prescriptions for me, saving me time and money going to the doctors (not UK). Also free medical advice.
Free legal advice from a couple of friends, just as long as it doesn't involve actual legal work.

Most trips abroad - paid for by work and there's often some time for sightseeing unless I don't want to.
Free IT support from work - they are very nice.
Free entry to some exhibits if I show my work card.

Oranges and eggs if someone else goes to my home town - too expensive if it's me going because then I pay for petrol.

I can get DS free haircuts, if I do them. Grin

Haven't you looked at NHS discounts on the Intranet? Café Rouge give 20% discount.

TildaKauskumholm · 29/11/2019 17:59

Those who get stuff 'free' by stealing from your employer, thanks, the cost is just added on to the products/services it sells.

TeacupDrama · 29/11/2019 18:01

DH is very good at car repairs so apart from the MOT and the occasional part my car maintennace bill has been £0 for over 10 years
he is very good at other DIY too

Lweji · 29/11/2019 18:06

At my previous employer, they used to leave leftover biscuits/sandwiches from meetings in the corridor. Nice treat sometimes. :)
Also, official meetings always had biscuits. I think it made people nicer in general. Wink

Ticklemeelmo · 29/11/2019 18:13

I used to get free coffees every day from Pret just by always using the same one and getting to know the staff.

They have a certain amount they're allowed to give away

OublietteBravo · 29/11/2019 18:15

Free tea/coffee at work.

Free samples of whatever the pilot plant at work has been making.

Discounted products in the staff shop.

Discount at Costa (and Premier Inn/Whitbread-owned restaurants - the discount scheme doesn’t seem to have realised that Costa is now owned by Coca Coka) through DH’s job.

I’m a midwife & got a single room on postnatal ward when I had my kids, for which I am eternally grateful!

Years ago now but DH worked for a specific part of the BBC and got 50% off at Debenhams, before Debenhams was shit. I did virtually all my clothes shopping there for a while Grin
