Thought it might be fun, posting here for traffic.
What do you get for free or at a very small cost that others pay for?
This is supposed to be fun by the way...
For example
I never pay for yoga classes (family member is the teacher)
I never pay for stationary or printing (get them from work)
I never pay full price for Fatface or Debenhams purchases as I have good friends working there.

What are your freebies?

OP, if you work for a stationery company you should know how to spell 'stationery'...

TheClitterati · 29/11/2019 16:37

For years I had free tickets to most gigs I wanted to go to & free cd's. Years of free club entry and cheap/free drinks. Fun fun fun.

These days I'm delighted if I get a free coconut latte from Pret. Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 29/11/2019 16:37

Not now because the holiday firm I worked for went bust two years ago 😥, but for nearly 15 years I got 1K a year off my holiday. Miss those days.

moita · 29/11/2019 16:41

Pumpkins at Halloween 🤣 SiL works for a posh farm shop and they always have surplus. Make good soup...

I get free entry to our local softplay as did some freelance copywriting for them last minute. They charge for adults so we've saved quite a bit.

MrsMonkeyBear · 29/11/2019 16:46

Free food from work - what ever I fancy cooking as long as it's not steak.

Free plates/cutlery from one of my in laws

Very discounted train travel courtesy of another family member

Free coffee but only if my husband is working.

flirtygirl · 29/11/2019 16:47

The op clarified very early on, that free stationery was a perk and not pilfered, to those who haven't read the thread properly.

Bluerussian · 29/11/2019 16:53

I can honestly say I've never paid for sex.

MistyCloud · 29/11/2019 16:55

@Ijustwanttoretire

free perk...it’s a stationary company...

riiiggghhhtt, OP so you work for a stationEry company but you can't actually spell stationEry??? Hmm

WOW, I thought I was good at spelling, and I was about to say 'actually, the OP has spelt it correctly. It's not spelt Stationery!'

BUT IT IS. You're right. StationARY is when you are standing still.

I thought the supplies of paper and pens etc was spelt the same.

Well spotted!

Anyway, what do I get free?

  1. I.T. support as I have a close family member who works in I.T.

  2. Free accommodation when we go down That London, because we have extended family there. (And they stay here when they come up to the midlands.)

  3. Apples, pears, and strawberries, from a neighbour who has a small orchard.

  4. Free cinema as a very close relative works there.

  5. Cut price rooms at a budget hotel (50% off the price at any one of the 100s of the hotels,) as someone I know works there.

DH works for a rail company so we both get free train travel and free parking at stations run by his company. I don't commute by train any more but DH does. His season ticket would be about £1300 a year and parking about £600.

We also get 75% off on trains not run by his company which can come in handy for weekends away to places we don't need a car for.

I get a free health plan with work (well, it costs me about £5 per month in tax) and I can claim back a few hundred pounds for different things (dental, optical, different therapies). I usually make sure I claim what I can.

Friend works for Virgin Media so we get friends and family package which is slightly cheaper than we would pay.

My brother's a builder so we have never had to buy wood for our logburner he'll drop a load of scrap wood off periodically, though we need to saw it to size. Not as pretty as logs but saves us about £200 a year.

I'm partially sighted so can't legally drive. I get a free bus pass, though it's off peak so can only use after 9.30am. It still saves me about £40 per month compared to paying full price for a standard pass (I pay to get to work but not to get home, iyswim)

Quite a few bits and bobs now I think about it Smile

shas19 · 29/11/2019 17:01

Mil is a dental nurse so get free things or really good discounts.

HarrietOh · 29/11/2019 17:02

Endless amounts of TLC and handholds from all around me and even MN when my Dad died recently

Oysterbabe · 29/11/2019 17:04

My dad has a small holding and gives us meat and eggs. Our Christmas Dinner is currently strolling round his paddock with her mates.

LurkyMcLurcker · 29/11/2019 17:04

My children get free riding lessons and free access to all the pony club activities/pony fun days/own a pony days...

I can write off a new riding hat and boots as expenses? Also my pet donkey who doesn’t really do much other than look cute gets put through the business.., does that count?

I run a riding school.

TravellingSpoon · 29/11/2019 17:04

I get a free work uniform and meals on duty.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 29/11/2019 17:05

Not a freebie, but decent discount on holidays and some duty free if DS is travelling (he works for an airline)

Used to get 50% off hair cuts, colours and products until my mum retired (worked for a large hairdressing chain's HQ).

When DH was a postie we never had to buy a stamp - local post was just handed to the postie for that address, and he was given 50 stamps as a Christmas box each year by Royal Mail

BritWifeinUSA · 29/11/2019 17:06

Flights. I work for the company.

When DH worked we had all the gloves we could ever need and more. I hate wearing gloves.

KanelbulleKing · 29/11/2019 17:06

Well I live in Sweden so get so much for free it'd make your toes curl. The best one would be almost free wrap around childcare including holidays. The most fun one would be free hobby classes so everyone who wants to can take part. DS does table tennis, football, ice hockey and bat watching (with hotdogs).

Alicesweewonders · 29/11/2019 17:06

Free hot drink at Cafe Nero ( I always get a hot chocolate) every Tue/Wed with the O2 priority app. It's the highlight of my working day. It's the small things..

OhioOhioOhio · 29/11/2019 17:08

I get loads of free stuff. I'm very friendly!!!
Hot chocolate at Costa was the last one.
Yesterday free wiper fitting.

Freebiefriday · 29/11/2019 17:08
