Thought it might be fun, posting here for traffic.
What do you get for free or at a very small cost that others pay for?
This is supposed to be fun by the way...
For example
I never pay for yoga classes (family member is the teacher)
I never pay for stationary or printing (get them from work)
I never pay full price for Fatface or Debenhams purchases as I have good friends working there.

What are your freebies?

DBML · 29/11/2019 22:22

Nothing at all. I could get green and purple pens if I were willing to steal them, but to be quite honest, I couldn’t bear to see them in my house as they remind me of work.

ginghamstarfish · 29/11/2019 22:26

Books, in return for reviews (honest ones!)

Purpletigers · 29/11/2019 22:31

Free firewood
Eggs from our own chickens

Thecathouse · 29/11/2019 22:34

Free (apart from effort) fruit and veg from our big patch on our land - blackberries from the bushes around it ( plus being vegetarian that means we don’t pay for food unless we want the odd treat)

Free eggs

Heavily discounted pet products with free tank test strips, the occasional reptile bulb and the odd dog groom and bag of treats

Free pet sitting

rededucator · 29/11/2019 22:49

Bickles The assumption you're the dental nurse rather than the dentist would have griped on me.

UnaCorda · 29/11/2019 22:59

free perk...it’s a stationary company

A stationary company? Sounds like a job that won't take you far.

Freebiefriday · 29/11/2019 23:07

@UnaCorda....yes it was a typo...funnily enough if you RTFT I mentioned to a pp about it being an inside joke (the typo...ppl seem to do it a lot!!) your comment was extremely close to the joke we have in the office Grin

I am an academic and we've been on a holiday where my air fare was paid by work as I was at a conference (the rest of the family did have to hang around while I did conference stuff though!). We used to do this a lot more before we had the DCs though.
A family member who was an academic in the 70s/80s kept the entire extended family in paper with spare printouts.
I do bring my scrap paper home for the DCs to draw on but I check it's not an exam paper first!
There are always out of date textbooks going spare at work but nobody actually wants them.

isittooearlyforgin · 29/11/2019 23:23

My wedding... free bridesmaids dresses, a friend made them, free photography - family friend keen photographer, free transport, relative had posh car, free cake friend made it, free disco music friend made play list. Was really nice to think people contributed so meaningfully to our big day.

Dinnerfor1 · 29/11/2019 23:50

Chester Zoo tickets. My friend works there and gets enough guest passes that I never have to pay.

Tillygetsit · 30/11/2019 00:12

My dh is a tree surgeon and swaps logs for eggs every week! Haven't bought an egg for 5 years. He also gives logs to our local garage in return for a service.

safariboot · 30/11/2019 02:50

I do all my printing in the office. That's about it.

iswhois · 30/11/2019 03:06

Printing stationary etc from work.

Free parking in our local town centre as result of working for Local Authority

Free Microsoft Office for work and home computers as result of working for said local authority! Ditto hot waterfall style showers when our bathroom was being refurbished!!

Free sugar and mustard glazed ham every Xmas as my mother makes the best ones and is obsessed with every relative (blood related or other) eating one. Batch buys the ham in Costco I think.

iswhois · 30/11/2019 03:09

And on behalf of my mothers CF Friend- free access to Leeds Castle to the next year as she has stole the annual passes I purchased and lent to my DM.

Feed the ducks for me!!!!

Bickles · 30/11/2019 06:19

I think the poster who thought I was a dental nurse is a dental nurse herself. It didn’t bother me. Dental nurses are great! (I am very well trained Grin). Also it’s an anonymous forum. If I meet someone and they assume I’m the nurse because I’m a woman it would be a different thing but that rarely happens. Dentistry is fairly equal opportunities.
Most toothpastes like Colgate contain Sodium Fluoride. Oral B has stannous fluoride as well and it dehydrates the oral mucosa causing the sloughing. I have moaned to the Oral B rep about it. She reckons the stannous is beneficial (can’t remember why) and the sloughing is harmless.
Personally I like Colgate total or sensodyne.
As long as it contains 1450ppm fluoride it doesn’t matter what you use. Sensodyne is sodium laureth sulphate free which some people like.

Haskell · 30/11/2019 08:16

I work in a school, so nothing for free, not even tea or coffee, and yes I often end up subsidising things myself.
My child would get priority on admissions (which is v desirable, it's an excellent school)...but he's a boy!

One thing I did benefit from was getting straight to the top of the heart surgery list because a close family member works with the surgeon. That's kind of priceless- I had about a four week wait, after co-ordinating diaries, and it has completely changed my life for the better.

user1471498272 · 30/11/2019 08:45

Free first class flights anywhere on this airlines network (DP)

Friends and family discount for our phones (BiL works for Vodafone)
Free mortgage advice (through a friend)
Discounted carpentry (again through a friend)

Smellbellina · 30/11/2019 08:48

lovelyjubilly · 30/11/2019 09:29

I never pay for babysitters

Hairyfairy01 · 30/11/2019 09:56

Ummmm, I guess if I was worried about my blood pressure or anything i could have a full set of obs done straight away. That's about it though.

TorchesTorches · 30/11/2019 17:07

Tomatoes, potatoes and orchids, due to FIL business contacts in agriculture.

We never can eat all the tomatoes we get.
