To dress my baby in black?!

But of a strange one.....

my mother thinks it’s “inappropriate” for me to dress my baby in anything black, and for me to dress any of my DCs (age 4, 3 & newborn) in band merchandise Hmm
This all stemmed from me showing her some things I’d ordered for Christmas, including a black babygrow with my baby’s name on it, and a Metallica T-shirt for my 3yo DS.

Personally I think her outrage and pearl clutching is a bit silly seeing as though DH and I wear band merch all the time. But then it got me thinking: what do other people think when they see babies/children dressed in black/band merch etc. Confused
Is it weird??

May have just fallen down another Black Friday rabbit hole and ordered some really cute skull patterned black and pink dungarees for DC3 👀👀👀

My favourite outfit for ds (he's 30 now) was a very cool black silk French batwing all in one which he wore to a wedding. My mother almost fainted.

I think it’s cute. If I could find tshirts with the obscure bands on that I like, I’d get them for my future baby. Black won’t show all the shit they inevitably get on themselves and as baby’s don’t care what they’re wearing, why not dress them as a mini-me? Who is it hurting? I just want to show support. 🤘🏻

Ugh, babies*

I can’t bear a typo.

bluesatinmanolos · 01/12/2019 17:53

To all those saying this is weird - how is this any weirder than something like a baby football shirt?

You do you, OP. I don't think it's weird at all.

@ThePolishWombat Sorry did not notice your post. I try not to out myself on here, otherwise I would post a link. But we tend to print our designs on black baby, toddler and kids T-shirts and playsuits. We only use a bright red, a light grey and black and avoid white and pastel colours.

As my username suggests I am mad into Rock n Roll, but DD is dressed in bright colours. Maybe a bit of black like trousers/top. Maybe some leopard. I had a no slogans until she could read and that included my own taste too. I am keen to continue it now she can read. Being an individual is an organic process you need to encourage having an open mind and a love for music. The rest will follow.

DD age 4 has a liking for 50s rock n roll atm. She knows who my fave bands are but I don't push. I worry it will send her the other way.

boatybook · 01/12/2019 21:07

Oooh . Do you have a link to those dungarees?

As long as baby is comfortable and appropriately dressed for the weather who cares what they are wearing?

Only thing that does irk me is tiny babies in denim but that because it looks so uncomfortable.

My DS is nearly 20, he had a black onesie , black dungaress and a short sleeved top from Gymboree
Black PJs with tiny skeleton print from Great Little Trading Company

DD had a gorgeous silky mandarin collar top and trousers (black) from a shop selling Chinese clothes .

All really lovely but no band TShirts
