How anyone can vote Tory?

Stella8686 · 28/11/2019 23:40

After seeing some pro labour and pro conservatives posts recently I am genuinely interested to see what makes someone vote conservative

OTHER THAN

  1. Hard/ quick Brexit
  2. Looking after your own finances
  3. Hatred for Labour/ Corbyn

ABIU to not be able to think of any single other reason to vote conservative?

He’s using the offensive phrase as a hackneyed description of how African territories under British rule might have been appeared to Western leaders at the time and how the Commonwealth might appear to the queen as she waves benignly.

I think your faith in his understanding of cultural sensitivity is misplaced. This is somebody who had to be stopped from quoting 'the Road to Mandalay' in a Myanmar temple.

noodlenosefraggle · 02/12/2019 12:07

At a basic level, I'm voting Labour because I suspect at best they will be able to form a minority government and cobble together some votes for a second referendum. Their other policies are unlikely to come to fruition because they wont be able to get them through, so they can say what they like. I presume if you don't want another referendum and want Brexit, you will vote Conservative because every other eventuality leaves the door open to another referendum. In both cases, the government can be voted out. Brexit cannot be.

DowntownAbby · 02/12/2019 12:28

@Alsohuman

I know precisely what a Labour government would do and I approve of it.

That's the scary bit. You actually believe the Labour bullshit!

We all know BJ is a lying, scheming toe rag and won't do much, if any, of what he's promising. No one is arguing that bit.

But why is it that you brainwashed Corbyn fans think that Labour will/can do what they say?

They're all cheating, lying, conning shysters but you can't see it.

Spinderellacutituponetime · 02/12/2019 12:33

Just choosing the lesser of two evils. That’s all you can do. And hoping that a change will come. Tories have had a good innings so let’s give someone else a go. I’m not delusional about Jeremy, he’s just slightly more palatable that the other cockwomble.

CornishMaid1 · 02/12/2019 12:59

Well I am a Tory voter (but pro-remain), although actually going back to Lib Dem, purely because Labour are too left and Conservative are too right, so hopefully we can end up with a hung parliament and coalition where those parties in the middle can try and centralise a bit.

I would never vote Labour. The lack of any real drive to tackle the anti-semitism in their party is disgraceful.

I do not hate Corbyn (I have never met the bloke), but their policies are too far to the left. They are going to have to borrow ridiculous amounts of money that will damage the economy.

There is an element of self-interest obviously. I do not mind paying a bit more in tax to improve services, but do not trust Labour to deal with it the correct way. I am also concerned for the tax increases that are going to affect other members of my family and many others in the country, particularly those married couples with one on a lower wage (the loss of married allowance) and pensioners who will have their pension and share dividends affected and will end up much poorer.

The problem is one both main parties have in that some of the ideas are great, but there needs to be a full overhaul in each service area and none of the parties have the skill or will to do it. As an example, the NHS could have fantastic buying power if they streamlined purchasing across the NHS trusts, but instead each trust negotiates differently through third party suppliers and end up paying more for say bandages than if they just went out to Boots and bought some. That is where an overhaul could help, but rather than fixing it they just throw more money at it or cut the actual services that people need.

Devereux1 · 02/12/2019 13:02

I could not in good conscience vote Conservatives for many reasons but mainly that I truly believe they think the lower classes and the public services are a drain on the country. That they are out of touch, entitled and privileged and don't understand what matters to average people

For each of your points above, can you show exactly how you have come to your position? ie. what makes you think all of the above?

Devereux1 · 02/12/2019 13:04

For me it's all about public services

What does that actually mean, OP?

Codywolf · 02/12/2019 13:12

I have decided to vote Tory for these reasons

I believe it should pay to work
I worry for my children future taxes bill if labour get in
I believe that an Australian type immigration policy would be beneficial to the country

I also understand why people will be voting different that what is great about our country you can have different views and vote accordingly and in my cause stay good friends with people with opposite views

Alsohuman · 02/12/2019 13:58

But why is it that you brainwashed Corbyn fans think that Labour will/can do what they say?

I’m not a “Corbyn fan”. I’m holding my nose. But if they achieve a quarter of their promises I’m happy. And I want to stay in the EU.

philipo99 · 02/12/2019 19:18

I would NEVER vote Tory. Their policies hurt people and wreck lives. Labour policies at worst only means the higher earners paying more tax. They resent paying the tax and yet that stops the situation we are in now. 4m kids in poverty, 14 m people in poverty, not enough cheap houses, more people on the streets than ever, over 1.5 m food bank parcels last year alone, everyone on the take etc etc etc

Anyone who is not a millionaire/billionaire voting Tory, is truly either dumb or they actually believe the Tory lies.

philipo99 · 02/12/2019 19:31

That is if the Tory's are not lying to you! The Experts say that both Tory and Labour are stretching it but I always point out this...

Post WWII when the country had a much bigger deficit than after the financial crash, the then Labour party led by Attlee, said that they where going to build the NHS, 1 million council houses and the Benefits system.

The Tory's at the time were calling Labour and their leader Trotsky, Commies etc etc just like today! Yet, even with the MASSIVE spend the economy actually improved. It circulated massive amounts of money to ALL quarters of the country, not , as today with Tory policy, into the hands of the top 1%.

The Tory s have now had 10 years and we are in one of the worst most stagnant times of my 52 years. Four million kids in poverty, 14 Million people in poverty, 1.5 million food bank users last year alone, more on the streets than ever, Things are NOT getting better, they are getting FAR worse.

People have GOT to start thinking about the country and stop listening to the divisive tactics the Tory party uses to get the average man/woman on the street to vote against their own interests. Trump managed to get into power using the very same hard core tactic's but I NEVER thought the British people were selfish/stupid enough to fall for the same rhetoric and division. Sad, Sad days indeed.

How anyone can vote Tory?
Stella8686 · 02/12/2019 22:30

Deveroux1

As was in the media this week

Boris Johnson in his younger years calling working class men I can't remember the exact words but slackers and slovenly

And called single mums out for raising illegitimate scrounges on society

And as for helping their rich friends

Have a look at who has given money to the conservative campaigns and see what tax cuts businesses get

I would be more concise but I'm shattered tonight

malificent7 · 02/12/2019 22:33

I bet those people who think poor people shouldn't have kids ( see deleted thread) will be the first to vote tory.

malificent7 · 02/12/2019 22:34

Boris has left tons of women to bring up his kidz alone. Idiot.

Trewser · 02/12/2019 22:37

Omg these threads!
How are there so many people who are so thick that they don't understand people who are different to them??

Spinderellacutituponetime · 02/12/2019 23:44

Are you on the wrong thread @trewser? It’s nothing to do with being thick, it’s trying to comprehend why and could possibly be called healthy debate if some posters weren’t just slagging others off...

Trewser · 02/12/2019 23:53

Well, there are many, many threads on this. None of which REALLY have any interest in learning what the Conservative party stand for, but if the OP was genuinely interested I suggest googling it.

Stooshie8 · 03/12/2019 06:18

MN should have made a Election section so all these ranting threads could have been in one place (so easy to block).

Alsohuman · 03/12/2019 07:30

Who forced you to open it?

lowlandLucky · 03/12/2019 07:32

I will vote conservative because i truly belive they will deliver Brexit, our country had a democratic referendum and we must abide by the outcome. I dont believe any other party will do a better job. Labour had may years in power and left a trail of destruction. I can never forgive Blait for dragging us into Iraq with his lies, he cost many lives, i cannot vote for a party that stands beside known terrorists and then lies about it. As for the lib/dems they are a bit like trying to bale a boat out with an egg cup, totally ineffectual. As for the snp, the sooner they dissappear the better

Trewser · 03/12/2019 07:33

You can't block a section, sadly. Otherwise that would have been a good idea.

Scotinthenorth · 03/12/2019 07:43

I’m working class on minimum wage. I’ll be worse off under Labour. They are raising my taxes to pay for pledges that I’m totally against. They will turn this country into full state control.
I’m much better off under the tories. Corbyn and especially McDonnell are a threat to this
Country. I truly believe this.

Spinderellacutituponetime · 03/12/2019 07:48

@Stooshie8 yet you keep coming back on here?

Alsohuman · 03/12/2019 07:54

I’m working class on minimum wage. I’ll be worse off under Labour.

Complete and utter nonsense. And that’s the polite version.
