To think that it's impossible to vote for Jeremy Corbyn after last night's interview?

To be upfront : I would never vote for Labour or Corbyn anyway, for various reasons.. But that was not a good interview and had I been considering it I would be very concerned now.

I can't vote labour because of their gender self id policies, but even if that wasn't the case I would really struggle to cast a vote that may help Corbyn into number 10.

I'm hoping that labour get annihilated, tbh, and it forces the party to either reform, ditching the lefty-woke-bros / momentum, or split. I want a centre left, sensible political party to vote for in the future, and right now there are none.

I've always voted labour (except once, lib dem, as a student, and once, didn't vote due to personal circumstances) before.

Sakura7 · 27/11/2019 11:33

Makes you wonder why the media didn’t give one single fuck about antisemitism before then. If it has been historically rife within Labour why are we only being outraged about it now?

Oh yeah it’s because they had no interest in using it as a weapon until someone came along who might hold them financially and socially accountable.

Exactly.

The fact that Corbyn is being hounded about this, while the media don't give a toss about islamophobia and the countless examples of racist language used by the sitting PM, speaks volumes.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 27/11/2019 11:34

Andrew Neil is a woefully bad interviewer. He's desperately trying to get a soundbite for the right wing press. I was glad Corbyn didn't rise to the bait

No he isn’t. He asked a straight forward question it should have been answered.

Unsurprisingly Owen Jones made a similar comment after being interviewed by Andrew Neil and Owen himself was making some ridiculous claim that he was asked simply to back up

MatildeHidalgo · 27/11/2019 11:39

@Devereux1

Soundbite has come to mean a few words- like "Leave means leave" "Brexit means Brexit" or "Let's get Brexit done" - which don't actually have substance but are meant to satisfy people who don't have the inclination to look more deeply into politics. Increasingly interviewers of the ilk of Andrew Neil - aren't interested in getting considered replies from their interviewees, they are looking for one statement that the MSM can twist into the headline the editor is panting for.

The Sun "Jew Hater Jezza says Soz"
The Mail "Anti Semite Corbyn forced to give grovelling apology"

Mia1415 · 27/11/2019 11:42

I'm voting labour (for the first time). Not because I like him and want him to get into No 10, but because I don't want Boris getting a majority. I don't think either of them are fit to be PM.

greenlynx · 27/11/2019 11:43

No, the old Tories were closer to Blair. Blair was Tory-light. This lot are far more right wing than Cameron.
This^.
Cameron, Blair, Clegg and even Miliband were very very close. They were fighting basically at the centre a little bit towards left a little bit towards right. The current Conservatives are almost on the same ground as Farage. And it looks like they came to a mutual agreement. As to Lib Democrats, they are just better looking Conservatives. People should check Jo Swinson’s voting records. I checked because in the first place I thought she’s fresh and is able to offer a change for good. I was stunned by seen how wrong about her I was. She was a minister in coalition government, she voted the same as typical Tory MP: for bankers, for restricting benefits for disabled, for raising tuition fees. She voted for fracking and now she’s in coalition with Green Party!!!

Bluntness100 · 27/11/2019 11:44

Andrew Neil is a woefully bad interviewer

But yet he totally and utterly wiped the floor with Corbyn. Not sure what that says about Corbyn if he can't even handle a wonderfully bad interviewer...just how much more fucked would he be with a good one?

Clavinova · 27/11/2019 11:44

Clavinova You keep trashing Labour costings

I didn't trash them - Channel 4 did!

"For example, Labour say £86bn of the £100bn total comes from corporation tax cuts. But using what we understand Labour’s methodology to be, the net giveaway to businesses is substantially less: around £7bn."

This is being investigated by EHRC before they even get to roll out their racism.

derxa · 27/11/2019 11:48

If it has been historically rife within Labour why are we only being outraged about it now? Has it been historically rife? I don't remember the Labour party of Harold Wilson, Neil Kinnock, John Smith, Tony Blair etc having an issue with anti semitism at all. They seemed to be concerned with giving working people in society a fair deal. Is Luciana Berger wrong about the current Labour party?

longwayoff · 27/11/2019 11:52

@hamstersarse, "tank topped bumboys"? Will that do?

MatildeHidalgo · 27/11/2019 11:53

@derxa - yes, I did watch the interview.

There is much to admire about Jess Phillips but she has been paving the way for her leadership bid for a while now.

JPharm · 27/11/2019 11:57

Is Luciana Berger wrong about the current Labour party?

She called it ‘institutionalised antisemitism’ that implies to me it’s historic. The fact that you didn’t hear about it under the other labour leaders that you mentioned kind of proves my point. Corbyn is also working towards a fairer society for everyone, this is why the right wing owned press hate him so much.

Devereux1 · 27/11/2019 12:01

@MatildeHidalgo

So you think Andrew Neil wanted to hear a soundbite, like "Brexit means Brexit" etc, as in your examples?

In the absence of any evidence to support this, are you able to accept another possibility? Which is that Andrew Neil wanted Jeremy Corbyn to actually answer his questions?

What do you think about that possibility?

madeyemoodysmum · 27/11/2019 12:01

Virgin comes across as as stubborn old git who will never apologise or admit he is wrong on anything.

madeyemoodysmum · 27/11/2019 12:02

Corbyn not virgin ha ha.

Harpingon · 27/11/2019 12:03

If Jess Phillips was leader the labour party would have my vote, but sadly she's a woman so that's not happening anytime soon.

JPharm · 27/11/2019 12:11

I quite like Stella Creasy too, her or Jess Philips should be leader next. I’m assuming Corbyn will have to stand down if the Tories gain the majority at this election.

Clavinova · 27/11/2019 12:13

"tank topped bumboys"? Will that do?

What is the point of quoting Boris Johnson (out of context) from 1998 to excuse what Jeremy Corbyn did/did not say yesterday on anti-Semitism yesterday?

"Johnson was one of just a handful of Conservative MPs who voted in favour of repealing Section 28 in 2003, and quickly garnered a reputation for being on the socially liberal wing of the party."

"He also voted in favour of civil partnerships in 2004."

"In 2010 Johnson publicly expressed support for marriage equality, making him one of the most high-profile Conservative politicians to do so at the time."

"While he was not an MP when marriage equality passed in parliament and so could not vote on the legislation, he did back the Out4Marriage campaign in the lead-up to the vote."

"Johnson's two-year stint as Foreign Secretary between 2016 and 2018 saw him lift the ban on UK embassies flying the rainbow flag during Pride events in 2016."

Trewser · 27/11/2019 12:14

TitusOatesLivesNextDoor, yes, I agree completely.

I rather like that piece on the burka. I can't imagine Corbyn writing anything even half as intelligent because he's not

derxa · 27/11/2019 12:14

She called it ‘institutionalised antisemitism’ that implies to me it’s historic Oh come off it. Here is an extract from her Wiki page:
As an MP, Berger joined the Shadow Cabinet under Ed Miliband's Labour leadership. She campaigned against dangerous dogs and their owners, as well as food poverty, and raised the issue of loopholes allowing companies to avoid their health and safety responsibilities. She has received online antisemitic abuse and death threats from far right individuals. She was re-elected in the 2015 and 2017 general elections. Berger was critical of Jeremy Corbyn, who was elected Labour leader in 2015, and resigned from the Shadow Cabinet in 2016.[6] She criticised what she considered to be increasing antisemitism in the Labour Party and said that, under Corbyn, Labour contained "institutional anti-Semitism".
So Corbyn onwards.

ShatnersWig · 27/11/2019 12:15

Clavinova I'm still waiting for your defence of the Tory pledge to build 40 new hospitals yet this is not costed for in their manifesto....

electricwhisk · 27/11/2019 12:17

I do not understand why Labour do not ditch Corbyn for someone like Starmer. If they did they would have a landslide victory.

Just convinces me that those who say Labour is no longerLabour are bang on. It is a hard left, Marxist party who have taken over the Labour brand.

derxa · 27/11/2019 12:17

There is much to admire about Jess Phillips but she has been paving the way for her leadership bid for a while now. Heaven forbid that a woman MP might be ambitious. Shock

Clavinova · 27/11/2019 12:21

Clavinova I'm still waiting for your defence of the Tory pledge to build 40 new hospitals yet this is not costed for in their manifesto....

I'm not an economist but I'm happy to read your link/s.

I don't understand your argument though - the Conservatives cannot afford to deliver their pledge - but the Labour Party can afford to spend 10 times as much?
