To think that it's impossible to vote for Jeremy Corbyn after last night's interview?

To be upfront : I would never vote for Labour or Corbyn anyway, for various reasons.. But that was not a good interview and had I been considering it I would be very concerned now.

What is the point of quoting Boris Johnson (out of context) from 1998

Because it was 1998 not 1938, it was wrong then, it’s wrong now. It was in the context of describing the gay communities’ possible reaction to Peter Mandelson’s resignation from government. So still rampant homophobia.

Corbyn has never said anything like this in his life (as far as I can find, feel free to let me know if he has).

MarshmallowMuggle · 27/11/2019 12:23

Electric - maybe because they don’t want to win? Whoever gets stuck with dealing with Brexit is in for a real rocky Sad

John1971 · 27/11/2019 12:26

Johnson is a compulsive liar who can’t even tell you how many children he’s fathered. Please don’t let him back in.

AgeLikeWine · 27/11/2019 12:28

I agree, OP.

Britain desperately needs a progressive, centre-left, pro-European government but Corbyn’s leadership makes that impossible. He is completely useless and he would be hopelessly and dangerously out of his depth as PM.

He is an asset to the Hard Brexit Tories and a liability to Labour, who will never win again while he and his awful cronies are in charge.

anti-semitism, along with all the other isms (it's not worse than the others) has been rife throughout history throughout the uk populace. While there are conspiraloons that share bollocks about illuminati and 'rothschilds bankers' bollocks who are perhaps more likely to vote labour, mostly Labour supporters and MPs are no more anti-semitic than the populace generally, it's just that it isn't so fashionable to track it down in other parties. The right wing media found something that works in demonising Corbyn and they're going for it. There is no 'balance'.

The lurch to the right in the UK and USA is of far more of an existential threat to jewish people, black people, muslim people, women, than Labour. While the powerful exploit us to make themselves even richer then tell us to blame each other then violence against minorities will increase. A safe place for all people, including jewish people, is far more likely in a more equitable society. This will not be provided by the tories.

JPharm · 27/11/2019 12:32

@AgeLikeWine I agree with you in part, but like it or not he is leader for this election, those not voting for him out of protest because they don’t believe he should be leader are handing the election to BJ.

CendrillonSings · 27/11/2019 12:34

Agreed 100%, OP. Corbyn imploded over the antisemitism that has infested the party under his leadership, and his admitted that his 58 billion pound Waspi bribe was totally uncosted and unaffordable. The UK would have to be insane to elect him.

JPharm · 27/11/2019 12:34

Agree. When BJ says casually racist things it normalises this attitude to his supporters.

Clavinova · 27/11/2019 12:34

JPharm
Corbyn has never said anything like this in his life

There's a well known phrase though isn't there;
Actions Speak Louder Than Words

"Johnson was one of just a handful of Conservative MPs who voted in favour of repealing Section 28 in 2003, and quickly garnered a reputation for being on the socially liberal wing of the party."

Jeremy Corbyn's inaction with regards to anti-Semitism within the Labour Party continues to be a problem.

derxa · 27/11/2019 12:40

mostly Labour supporters and MPs are no more anti-semitic than the populace generally, I would agree with you. Unfortunately the conspiraloons as you call them have free reign on the Internet.

Bluntness100 · 27/11/2019 12:43

There is much to admire about Jess Phillips but she has been paving the way for her leadership bid for a while now

So? Why would anyone take issue with this? I would not vote labour but even I can see she's head and shoulders above Corbyn and at least had the decency to say an apology should be forthcoming and the Jewish community made to feel safe.

Corbyn has resolutely refused to apologise again today. I simoly don't understand his logic. If he says he is not anti Semitic, if he says he has "sanctioned" those who are, thus admitting the issue, why would you not apologise for the actions of those under your leadership who are anti Semitic?

There is only one answer for that, and it's because you are not sorry.

He's now got the chief rabbi come out against him, the arch bishop of Canterbury, and now the Hindu leaders as well. It's beyond insane and incredibly telling that he Is steadfastly and resolutely refusing to apologise like this.

I'd fucking do it in a heart beat if someone in my "employ" did it,. So would any decent person.

recrudescence · 27/11/2019 12:44

A lot has been made of Johnson’s “bum boy” remark and I am not for a moment condoning it. However, Corbyn has shared platforms with people who openly advocate the violent death of homosexuals. Everyone must realise which one is worse.

JPharm · 27/11/2019 12:45

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

So you can’t find anything racist or homophobic that Corbyn has said and BJ can say all the racist or homophobic things he likes so long as he votes a certain way?!

Alsohuman · 27/11/2019 12:47

I’m so hoping they pension Andrew Neil Patrick off soon. The difference in quality between these leaders’ interviews and Emily Maitlis eviscerating the Duke of York is massive. I wonder how Johnson will fare?

Sweetchicken · 27/11/2019 12:49

Have you even seen BJ speak? He can barely form a sentence.

wafflyversatile · 27/11/2019 12:50

Whereas Johnson just sells them weapons.

SeaWitchly · 27/11/2019 12:50

Well,I will still be voting labour 😊

fikel · 27/11/2019 12:51

I will vote Labour. Feel the Israeli government are getting away with everything they inflict upon the Palestinians. I think Palestine needs all the help it can get, I believe in a Palestinian state as well as Israel. I’m not anti Semetic, my Grandmother was half Jewish, I’m a humanitarian.
If Corbyn can get them back around the table that would be incredible

JPharm · 27/11/2019 12:52

Yes, this! There is a huge difference between bullying someone and properly scrutinising them. Neil is the chairman of a right wing media platform, he was never going to give Corbyn a fair hearing (and you know he won’t treat BJ in this manner).

Matlis on the other hand calmly asked hard hitting questions and gave Prince Andrew just enough rope to hang himself, that is how it should be done.

Alsohuman · 27/11/2019 12:54

Yesterday, I heard a WASPI woman on the radio say that she's not voting for Labour because she's terrified that Corbyn will raid the money she's worked hard 'all her life for' - to fund the WASPI promise

And they let people like that vote ...

EleanorShellstrop100 · 27/11/2019 12:57

I am definitely voting for him.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/11/2019 12:59

I simply don't understand his logic ... why would you not apologise for the actions of those under your leadership who are anti Semitic?

I can't answer that, since he wouldn't necessarily have to accept any blame himself. He could simply say he was sorry about what someone else had done and at least claw back a bit of credibility, but it's too late now

You said hes "refused to apologise again today", though ... has there been something else since the Andrew Neil interview, because I can't seem to find it?

Drabarni · 27/11/2019 13:01

Absolutely actions speak louder than words.
Our current Prime Minister and Home Secretary are currently under investigation from the EHRC, for racism and discrimination. I bet none of you have read about it in the media, because you won't find it.
However, the media are regularly reporting Labour anti semitism without proof. We all know about their investigation it's all over the tory media.

Anybody who votes tory are voting for racism, maybe indirectly but they are supporting a racist party.

bellinisurge · 27/11/2019 13:03

"Feel the Israeli government are getting away with everything they inflict upon the Palestinians."
There's being against tbe policy of the current Israeli government (which is a position many Israelis take) and being against the existence of Israel. Sadly the latter comes out all too quickly.
I assume most people would be against tbe policies of the current Saudi government but not against Muslims.
