To think that it's impossible to vote for Jeremy Corbyn after last night's interview?

To be upfront : I would never vote for Labour or Corbyn anyway, for various reasons.. But that was not a good interview and had I been considering it I would be very concerned now.

Can anyone at all provide an example of when Andrew Neil did not allow Jeremy Corbyn to answer a question.

I have asked those who have claimed this, but they are not responding. Others have said this too. Can any of you provide a concrete example?

dinosaurcookie · 27/11/2019 14:38

@CendrillonSings I was not 'admitting' that Labour are racist. What I was saying is that a lot of people say they are voting Conservative on that basis. I'm just pointing out that it makes no sense for one to say that corbyn is racist and then vote for Boris instead as he has been quoted and admitted to using derogatory language in relation to minority groups throughout his career.

AhNowTed · 27/11/2019 14:38

My own MP was engaged with both sides of the political divide in NI, and he wasn't a minister either.

MPs take up different causes, sit on select committees etc.

After seeing Jeremy Corbyn holding up the documents that prove that the Tories are selling our NHS to Donald Trump

Cmon now, behave, we all know that's not what they contained.

Lol! That's not what they proved at all.

Transcript of the AN / JC interview on the Spectator.
The papers JC referred to this morning have been online for a fair while.

I'm voting Conservative.

Trewser · 27/11/2019 14:45

If you vote tory YOU are responsible for the deaths of these people
What a pathetic thing to say. If you really genuinely believe that then you need professional help.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 27/11/2019 14:47

Thanks, Drabarni - but unless I'm missing something there's no mention of an EHRC investigation. Now I'm sure you wouldn't make something like that up but if something isn't covered by standard reputable sources, how do you know they're under investigation? I mean, it'd be news to the EHRC because they haven't listed it as one of their investigations www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/our-legal-action/inquiries-and-investigations

As for writing to my MP about this abhorrent victimisation of the Roma community, it'd be a total waste of time. I've written to him numerous times about women's rights, the horrendous use of 'DNR' due to Down syndrome/learning disabilities on disabled people's medical notes and other things but, like many other constituents, never once had a response past the autoreply. But he's a Labour MP in one of the safest Labour seats in the country so can happily stay on his gravy train. Sigh.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 27/11/2019 14:47

Every election Labour says the same about the NHS, it's not safe, the Conservatives are going to sell it off etc. Patent nonsense.

AhNowTed · 27/11/2019 14:50

If the Tories had nothing to hide, why redact the document?

hamstersarse · 27/11/2019 14:52

If you vote tory YOU are responsible for the deaths of these people

I understand the anger around austerity but this is something else. Something I see a lot on the left these days. You are telling me that you are a better person than anyone who votes Tory, and I think you actually believe that you are.

Sakura7 · 27/11/2019 14:52

Having empathy for nationalists who suffered great injustices does not equate to condoning IRA violence. In the same way that criticising Isreali government policy does not make someone an anti-Semite.

hamstersarse · 27/11/2019 14:55

Also on the being responsible for deaths thing

I've only looked at one of the stories you have posted ( www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/autistic-man-28-found-dead-20080050 ) and that seems a very strange case and one in which I don't think you can blame the DWP.

He was left for 9 months in his flat without his parents even noticing? Do family have no responsibility at all? It's very easy to blame the DWP/everyone who voted Tory, but there seems to have been a lot going on here.

Clavinova · 27/11/2019 15:03

Also on the being responsible for deaths thing

Individuals not following procedures in one of the others;

"The examiner found the DWP did not follow procedures which should have seen it telephone and visit Ms Whiting after she missed the appointment."

Emergencycake · 27/11/2019 15:04

I think what you have to be honest about is, whether you like it or not its a two horse race. If you want to vote green/ liberal etc, fine, but ultimately you'll get a Tory government that way.

So for clarity you have to answer this question. Do you want Jeremy or Boris. No one other party is even close to number 10. Those are your choices.

And before you start pointing fingers at Labour being antisemitic I think you have to acknowledge Boris' shocking racist statements in the not so distant past.

As for Andrew Neil, I thought his interview tactics were bullying and he kept cutting him off at every opportunity.

Drabarni · 27/11/2019 15:04

Alltheprettyseahorses

I read they are investigating those two because of their new proposal, the MP's are signing up so far it's mainly Labour as you'd guess.
There are some more articles on my threads, but time consuming getting past the "what about the mess you leave" comments.
Did find this in one of my files though.

Trewser · 27/11/2019 15:04

Gosh. What if the member of staff who failed to follow procedures was a...Labour voter 😲

MatildeHidalgo · 27/11/2019 15:05

@Devereux1 are you able to accept another possibility? Which is that Andrew Neil wanted Jeremy Corbyn to actually answer his questions?

Nothing I've ever seen of Andrew Neil leads me to think that. It's all about Neil being bombastic, hectoring his interviewees and being generally unpleasant. Emily Maitliss he is not.

Devereux1 · 27/11/2019 15:07

@Emergencycake As for Andrew Neil, I thought his interview tactics were bullying and he kept cutting him off at every opportunity.

How many times do you think an interviewer should need to ask a question before it is answered by the interviewee?

What do you think an interviewer should do when the interviewee doesn't answer the question posed to them?

If you don't think it was right of Andrew Neil to interrupt Jeremy Corbyn when he failed to answer a question, what do you think he should have done to ensure he did?

Nat6999 · 27/11/2019 15:10

I've seen a facebook message from a consultant at one of the hospitals that Boris Johnson has visited during the election campaign. Every consultant in the department he visited refused to meet him & the nursing staff hid in the laundry store until he had gone, in the end the only staff who met him was one nurse who had no idea about politics & a couple of staff who were virtually forced to, plus two unidentified big men in scrubs who claimed to be anaesthetist but nobody in the hospital had seen before, the hospital management wasted money getting the whole department repainted in preparation for his visit. On the day of his visit staff were unable to complete rounds for the duration of his visit, he made no effort to speak to any patients & the staff who met him were briefed on what they could & couldn't say. In other words another staged piece of Tory propaganda.

Motoko · 27/11/2019 15:10

^ This. Exactly this. If you don't want a Tory government, then despite what your feelings are about JC, you HAVE to vote Labour.

It's that simple.

BackInTime · 27/11/2019 15:13

I think if you can't vote for Corbyn because you have concerns re anti semitism then you can't contemplate voting for Johnson/Conservative because of concerns re Islamophobia, and racism particularly given Johnson's language.
^
If you are not thinking about both issues in the same space then you are being hypocritical.^

^

I cannot make sense of this either. So Johnson is openly racist and disrespectful all documented but apparently that's ok. His party have been responsible for the Windrush scandal and have created an increasingly hostile environment towards migrants by blaming foreigners for everything that is wrong with the country. EU citizens who have jobs, mortgages, children here have been living in limbo since the referendum with their rights being used as a political football. But still the media will portray Corbyn and the Labour Party as the bad guys.

hamstersarse · 27/11/2019 15:13

It is classic deflection to blame the interviewer. Oh another 'Corbyn's labour' type of thing to do - make accusations of bullying when someone disagrees with you.

He wasn't bullying him. It is hilarious that you think that is bullying.

Devereux1 · 27/11/2019 15:14

So you actually believe Andrew Neil doesn't want to hear any answers from any of his interviewees when he asks them a question? Do you seriously believe that?

Tell me, what would you have done if you had been interviewing Jeremy Corbyn.

For example, on the topic of the 60 billion:

"How do you pay for it?'.

What do you think any interviewer should do to get the answer?

Trewser · 27/11/2019 15:14

I do want a tory government though 🤷‍♀️
