I take DS to swimming. I got the times wrong turned up for the wrong lesson. I decide to go back to the changing room to wait. I find it hard to breath in the pool area, 30 minutes is ok, an hour and I can feel my asthma begin to act up.

There is a dad there getting his daughters dressed (fine) he was in the pool and he's down to his underwear.

Another dad arrives with his son, him and my DS are in the same lesson.

Anyways dad of daughters decides to get dressed... he drops his pants and is stark naked in front of his daughters. He is also by the door so if another parent was coming in their child would have walked into his penis! And it wasn't less than a minute because he was drying himself as well 🤢...

There are cubicles. He could have used a towel as well.

Why would and adult choose to get naked in a dressing room at a swim lesson for children with strangers around.

AIBU to find it bizarre?

His bum was also hairy and unattractive 🤢.

I thought you must be a dad when I read the OP. YABU to go in the men's changing rooms, especially to sit there for ages. If it had been a unisex charging room the Dad should have gone in the cubicle but in the men's male nudity is expected. Of course there will be young girls in the men's if their Dads have taken them swimming.

I'm so confused. Why was the op sat in the men's changing room? If you can't sit in the pool area then presumably there's a suitable reception area to sit in? I would find it more odd that you choose to wait in there than that -shock horror- someone is getting changed in a changing room....!

So @pinkboa, why do you think it’s not ok for someone to be naked in front of someone else’s children IN A CHANGING ROOM? It’s perfectly normal and I really hope you haven’t passed on to your children your - frankly odd - ideas about the acceptability of nakedness in a changing room.

I would say the rules are:

Unisex changing room - everyone showers in swimming costume then uses cubicle.

Male changing - Suitable for men, boys of all ages and girls under 8 with their dads. No females over 8 should be there. Cubicles optional as is male space.

Female changing - Suitable for women, girls of all ages and boys under 8 with their mums. No males over 8 should be there. Cubicles optional as is female space.

Not prudish and I know we’ve all got a body, but this was totally unnecessary. It could have been other little girls besides his daughter. He should have used a cubicle or been discreet behind a towel.

It's a bit grim I mean if genitalia was pretty we wouldn't be bothered about covering it up would we

It's also funny noting that people in here ignore the blatant cultural differences. Where I am from it's not seen as an issue for a father to take his daughter into a ladies to use the toilet or for a mother to take her son into the men's to use the toilet. We don't have public pools... in fact only private individuals own pools. Most people go to the beach... most people change their children on the beach and themselves in the cubicles.

My husband says he would never take our daughter in a men's room because of the general nudity...he doesn't mind it but doesn't want his 4yr old seeing another naked man. And his words; they are often filthy! Because some men just don't care (wee on the seats etc)

It's always empty... and it's usually me and another dad changing our sons... I don't expect to see naked adults at a child's swim lesson.

This is hilarious. You sat in the opposite sex changing room for half an hour and find it weird that a man got changed in there and briefly showed his backside. Seriously! His daughters saw his naked body and other males; the horror!
Stop sitting in changing rooms, watching people. Your behaviour is odd not the man getting changed. Sit in the reception or in the women’s but be careful you may see a breast in there.

I see plenty of women (including myself) in the women's who get naked to dry or change. In front of their kids and others.

I find it strange you find it odd. When potty training it wasn't just dh and i taking our dc to the loo, my dm and his dad, our dad's, siblings...they all went for a wee or poo too in front of them.

If my husband took our children into the men’s changing room with him I’d expect the chances of there being naked men in there would be pretty high, it’s a changing room.

I do find it odd you’d take your young son into a men’s toilet too - normally you’d go into your toilet - mum to women’s, men to men’s. And the child’s sex doesn’t matter (assuming they’re little).

Don’t see the issue with nudity of men in a male changing room. Again if kids are small they don’t care and arguably it’s good for them to see bits as just bits and perfectly normal. Assuming they’ve seen DH’s and it’s just nothing this is a logical extension of that

I am a member of a chain of naice gyms and go to them all over London, and the women frequently walk around starkers. With no care to any children being around. We do all have bodies after all.

If this had been unisex, sure I'd have expected a bit more privacy... I certainly wouldn't expect someone to look at my bum!!!

OP so what does your husband do with your 4yo when she needs the loo? Does he really take her into the female toilets?
