Fucking winter

AIBU or is it just shit for six months of the year from Oct to March? Kids perpetually ill. Grumpy husband who doesn't want to spend a dime and gets crap presents on the cheap which no-body likes. Cold and rain, no fucking money and bloody Christmas to get through with annoying relatives who you have to be polite to. Everyone at work seems to want to do even more as soon as the winter strikes, no-one's got any positive energy to do it. The constant cycle of D&V, heavy colds and tonsillitis, constantly surrounded by screaming children. IT SUCKS!!!!!! Can't go out anywhere cos one of the kids is ALWAYS vomiting. And the weather's absolutely SHITE. I think humans should just go into a state of hibernation for this part of the year. AIBU?

Hey @thatmustbenigelwiththebrie

If you go to bed at 7 when do you wake up?

I only ask as the combination of also feeling I could hibernate in the winter and having a baby that wakes up every morning at 0330 only going back to sleep an hour later is stripping me of energy and I’m someone who needs “a good eight”.

Ylfa · 27/11/2019 18:21

Raynauds solidarity 💕 the misery of chilblains (always toes, and thighs if I ride a lot) is one of the things I dread most about winter. Over the years I’ve got better at keeping my extremities warm but this winter I’m planning to not work outside nearly as much.

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2019 18:33

I wasn’t sure whether to reply to this as I assumed people had moved on. And it is dragging

But the op asked Aibu to hate winter there will be responses saying no and some yes I like it because xyz

Suffering is bad and no I wouldn’t dream of giving ‘advice’ Confused

I hope things improve for you.

Ginfordinner · 27/11/2019 18:39

MarshaBradyo I think the reason that people get irritated is when posters say things like:

We had a hot summer - no we didn't (most of us didn't anyway)
I love bright, crisp winter days - so do I but we very rarely get them

This picture was taken this morning. This is my reality of most autumn and winter days.

Fucking winter
MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2019 18:42

Gin well you will be irritated now because that looks really nice to me. Love mist like that.

I do think many people are not going to say that they like it due to xyz after the pp who mentioned ‘cosy’ ;

But it’s ok to answer the question from op either way.

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2019 18:43

It is actually a nice pic

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 27/11/2019 18:50

That picture looks pretty but I wouldn’t want to be out driving in that sort of visibility.

I am a sun worshiper so my favourite time of year is may through to September. I like being able to work in my garden without sinking into the mud and the lighter evenings to eat outside and still be able to do things.
I am a southerner so we don’t get really bad winters but the dark mornings, overcast and wet days are just so depressing.

Delatron · 27/11/2019 18:51

This thread is not ‘dragging’ on as long as the ‘we hate summer thread’. Despite the average summer we had...

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2019 18:52

I didn’t mean the thread. I meant the particular issue

Slumberly · 27/11/2019 19:29

@MarshaBradyo
Suffering is bad and no I wouldn’t dream of giving ‘advice’ confused

Why are you 'confused' when you repeatedly posted doing exactly that yesterday?

'Look up'
'Get outside regularly'
'Go for a walk'

Please don't insult anyone's intelligence further by making me actually go and copy and paste all of your advice posts. We can read.

HoldMyLobster · 27/11/2019 19:30

This picture was taken this morning. This is my reality of most autumn and winter days.

I must admit that looks rather lovely to me :-)

My usual photo would be of either mud or ice, occasionally there would be very pretty snow (that would soon turn into ice).

I do think I'd enjoy winter more if I didn't have a dog to walk every day. I really would hibernate as much as possible.

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2019 19:31

I said my mood was improved by having to go outside every day. I don’t really care what others do.

The look up was because of the pic of feet not serious.

Slumberly · 27/11/2019 19:31

@Ginfordinner That picture looks bloody miserable and depressing.

I can tolerate the mist and fog and rain, though I don't enjoy it. The cold is an absolute killer for me though. December and January are just pain. All of my memories of taking my kids to see the Xmas lights in town are just suffering and counting the minutes til I can get inside and run my hands under a hot tap.

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2019 19:33

My post I think having to walk outside helps my mood.

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2019 19:34

So move on will you Slumberly

I like the pic but prefer the cold sunshine too and am looking forward to very low temps this week.

dementedma · 27/11/2019 19:40

This thread is making me think of all the people who posted during summer, complaining about the sunshine and heat and longing for autumn and winter. Cold, crisp days, crunchy leaves, long country walks...yeah, talking to you guys.
Maybe next summer be careful what you wish for.

KateFoster · 27/11/2019 19:47

I absolutely love this time of year. I was in the Caribbean and missed bonfire night and Halloween and I hated it. Autumn and Winter are my ultimate favourite times!!

LoonyLunaLoo · 27/11/2019 20:01

Well today I think I’ve reached rock bottom already. As soon as I get in from work about 4 pm I’m just so excruciatingly tired. Like literally falling asleep. I honestly don’t know what to do? I actually cried because I’ve got so much to do but I’m falling asleep. What’s wrong with me??

HoldMyLobster · 27/11/2019 20:04

My Facebook memories just showed me my photo from this day a few years ago. It looks lovely but we had no power for 48 hours as a result.

Fucking winter
Slumberly · 27/11/2019 20:15

Stop talking to me please @MarshaBradyo

This is a support thread for people who are suffering genuine mental and physical pain/sadness because of the impending winter, and your 'contributions' are just goady and mean.

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2019 20:18

Slumberly you keep tagging me! I had left the thread until I saw your post this afternoon and my last words to you in my post after that were I hope things improve for you.

I haven’t given you advice contrary to what you think. And this isn’t a support thread it’s AIBU to hate winter.

But I concur ceasing the conversation as I’m hoping you will stop, so let’s both stop.

MissCharleyP · 28/11/2019 11:25

KateFoster How is this anyone’s favourite time? I’m currently on the motorway (I’m not driving) and it’s just relentless spray, poor visibility and gloomy clouds. We have been warned that there are long tailbacks due to flooding in the direction we’re going. It’s done nothing but bloody rain.

We don’t have proper seasons anymore; just rain sometimes interspersed with a few sunny or cold days depending on the month.

I’m seriously thinking of asking DH if we can move down south. I moved originally 7 years ago and a big reason was the weather. We moved back due to redundancy but I just really hate the weather here and how it stops me doing the things I like.

Slumberly · 28/11/2019 12:44

@MissCharleyP I'm a Londoner, I moved to wales when I was 18 and couldn't believe how awful the weather was. It rains almost every day of the year. Everything is permanently sodden.

I stuck it out for 7 years but it was a huge relief to come back to london where we do at least get plenty of dry days..

Oliversmumsarmy · 28/11/2019 12:55

My arthritis kicks in and I have to virtually give up work.

Telling me to get out and go for a walk.

Don’t people understand that walking means agony.

As for the threads moaning about summer.

That is a few weeks each year.

The damp and the grey lasts for month after month.

Delatron · 28/11/2019 13:07

Yes we get about 3 weeks top of nice warm weather (and a whole load of moaning).

The cold and damp lasts for about 6 months. Even in May and June it can be awful.
