Fucking winter

AIBU or is it just shit for six months of the year from Oct to March? Kids perpetually ill. Grumpy husband who doesn't want to spend a dime and gets crap presents on the cheap which no-body likes. Cold and rain, no fucking money and bloody Christmas to get through with annoying relatives who you have to be polite to. Everyone at work seems to want to do even more as soon as the winter strikes, no-one's got any positive energy to do it. The constant cycle of D&V, heavy colds and tonsillitis, constantly surrounded by screaming children. IT SUCKS!!!!!! Can't go out anywhere cos one of the kids is ALWAYS vomiting. And the weather's absolutely SHITE. I think humans should just go into a state of hibernation for this part of the year. AIBU?

I disagree with the moving / activity thing but maybe because I love all seasons. The love hate thing appears rife though on here.

Delatron · 29/11/2019 14:41

Yes but the seasons in this country aren’t proper seasons. It can be 16 degrees in August m, it can be very mild and jumper weather in winter.
It’s the endless rain and murk that people don’t like. I’d cope much better with a cold, sunny winter. And then a proper spring then warm summer. This doesn’t happen.

Ginfordinner · 29/11/2019 16:26

Lovely bright sunny cold and crisp winter days, autumn leaves , Christmas, snow, log fires, bonfire night , there lots of good things about winter !

OK. I'll bite.

Have you actually read any of this thread @Runnerduck34?
Where do you live that you haven't endured weeks and weeks of rain and constant gloom, because that has been the reality for pretty much most of the UK this autumn.

Today has been bright, and crisp. The last bright crisp day we had was three weeks ago, and then we went back to rain and gloom.

Oliversmumsarmy · 29/11/2019 18:09

When did it last snow and how many people have log fires?

Ginfordinner · 29/11/2019 18:24

When did it last snow?

Winter and spring 2018. Here in Yorkshire we had loads of snow between January and April. We had snow on Easter Monday. DD had several snow days off school, and we were getting slightly panicky as it was so close to A levels. But it was unusually cold and snowy two years ago. The Beast from the East visited three times.

how many people have log fires?

Not us, and no-one I know does

MissCharleyP · 29/11/2019 19:28

Delatron Exactly! This is my pet hate. I remember waiting for a bus one Saturday in July (I think it was the first weekend of the summer holidays) when I was living on the Kent coast, it was blowing a gale, lashing rain and was 13 degrees. By contrast, some days in December were 15/16 that year. I’d much prefer proper seasons but, as you say it just doesn’t happen now.

RainySnowyDay · 29/11/2019 21:51

I bloody love winter. Where I live we get long, snowy winters and hot summers. We got 20 inches of snow a few days ago. I love the dark evenings. I hate the summer because it’s too hot, I have to run the aircon all the time, and I can’t walk the dogs during the day.

Even when I lived in the UK, I much preferred the autumn and winter months.

Delatron · 29/11/2019 22:10

Yes well that sounds lovely. Winters and summers here in the UK are very different. Not hot/ not cold.

Ginfordinner · 29/11/2019 22:21

Where do you live RainySnowyDay?

Our seasons tend to merge into each other.

Bluerussian · 29/11/2019 22:36

Today was pleasant and bright, not cold. I was expecting rain and was pleasantly surprised - expect there will be freezing rain tomorrow followed by hail stones, sleet and snow.

DBML · 29/11/2019 22:44

When we can, we go to Florida for Christmas. I’d go for entire winter if I could afford it.

Ginfordinner · 29/11/2019 23:39

We had a hard frost last night. I think it got up to 7 degrees, which is cold in my book.

For us we always find the US really cheap.

Certainly cheaper than having your heating on full blast for 9 months of the year

-3 when I went to collect Ds from the station tonight

Littleidyll · 01/12/2019 11:58

YANBU. Days like today I like. Even colder, brighter and crisper than this, I absolutely love.

Dull, grey and wet and not particularly cold, for days on end is total and utter depressing shite and makes me want to leave the country.

HoldMyLobster · 01/12/2019 14:45

Snow starts here just after midnight tonight. DD needs to get to an airport 100 miles away through the snow tomorrow. Typical...

rhubarbcrumbles · 01/12/2019 15:07

Where are you HoldMyLobster ?

HoldMyLobster · 01/12/2019 17:22

I'm in New England - pray for me... Grin

BadLad · 02/12/2019 13:52

Je suis Holdmylobster.

vilnerf · 02/12/2019 14:08

It's the fucking mud I can't stand. It's bloody everywhere. Summers with a dog are glorious but Winters can be a nightmare. Do agree it's better when it properly frosts over as it's far less messy and miserable.

Spring seems so far away.

Madaboutthem2 · 02/12/2019 14:24

I hate winter too. I get anxiety in winter around stomach bugs. My boy ended up in hospital in march this year. My knowledge da racked up 20+ viruses between them last year. I hate the fact you have to function and do school runs.the weekends are boring. As you say, Christmas is meant to relaxing but it's all about keeping everyone else happy. Roll on march. I like April may and June best. July and August are ok if they are not too hot. But yes! How old are your kids?

I've got my DD taking haliborange, probiotics and using sterizar on her hands each morning. It's meant to put a barrier on for up to six hours and even kills norovirus. Wouldn't it be amazing if they could find a cure!

I would take the kids to softplay in the winter but I'm terrified they will bring the vomiting bugs back home Envy
