To invite Conservative voters to gather here

It’s ‘best of a bad bunch’ in my case but there are three threads petrified of BJ/Tories so wondered if any MN Tories would like to gather here!

Ex Labour voter, considering voting Conservative so popping along to say hi. I live in a very safe Labour seat (in a rather large student town),where the gospel of Corbyn and Momentum unfortunately reigns supreme.

GlitchStitch · 25/11/2019 10:44

The labour front bench terrifies me, irrespective of Corbyn. Dawn Butler in charge of policies relating to women? Angela Rayner in charge of education? Christ.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 25/11/2019 10:45

This is just yet another opportunity for Corbyn supporters to position themselves as the saviour of all and the righteous ones who care for everyone; while at the same time demonizing anyone who thinks differently as some puppy-kicking, kitten-eating monster who openly wishes for pain and suffering.

I won't be voting for Labour for several reasons, but I absolutely do not accept this narrative that they are the only party who are all that is wholesome and holy; and the other is the devil's nastier sibling.

We all make the choice (from a pile of fairly appalling choices) we believe is the best one for ourselves and for the country. Stop being such patronising monomaniacal bores about anyone who disagrees with you.

Chattybum · 25/11/2019 10:47

And as for Diane Abbott. I heard her being interviewed recently and she robotically kept repeating "I would never disagree with Jeremy" at one point. Honestly terrifying. I thought it was a spoof at first. Even if you think that would you ever say it in public?

EntropyRising · 25/11/2019 10:47

Does anyone think there’s a chance of (another) hung parliament?

Yes. Although BJ seems to be doing pretty well at the moment.

I think there's plenty of reason to believe that people who are out of work for any reason, including disability, will initially be far better off initially under a Corbyn government. The problem will arise when either Corbyn's booted out of office and the spending remediation begins, or the economy takes a downturn and public spending cannot be dialled up because it's already at max.

Bungalois · 25/11/2019 10:47

I used to vote Labour and hope to do so again in the future. I can't vote for them now because they've been cuckooed by those charming middle-class Stalinists, Momentum. Anyone who still does not believe this should watch this youtube clip from this year's Labour conference. It shows a decent Unison official being overruled by her Momentum superiors when counting an important show of hands vote:

If you don't find Momentum frightening you need to reread Animal Farm.

Goddessofgrowth · 25/11/2019 10:47

Well, some of them genuinely do seem to think that to vote conservative you are inherently ‘wrong’. I like the idea of personal responsibility.

Scary though Corbyn is, there is no one scarier than McDonnell.

GlitchStitch · 25/11/2019 10:48

And the attitude of some Corbyn supporters on here, and the left in general these days, is alienating voters. You are the reason the Tories will get a majority in this election and across the pond they are the reason Trump will get another 4 years. Identity politics, preaching, ignoring decent people and their legitimate concerns. It's so tiresome.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 10:49

I am glad I asked anyway, I was curious to see what kind of people would vote tory and why and now I know. Those with a little wealth, those who believe everything they read from dubious sources and then abuse anyone trying to question it, and just uncompassionate and unaffected people. So good luck and all the best. I hope it works at well for you.

EntropyRising · 25/11/2019 10:49

Did anyone see the way McDonnell reacted when he was asked about capital controls on Politics Live (or whichever, not sure) - he was positively incandescent with rage.

The lady doth protest too much.

Chattybum · 25/11/2019 10:50

I love the fact that woolie thinks she has the measure of a completely random group of individuals based on a few line of text on an anonymous forum.

BovaryX · 25/11/2019 10:51

Stop being such patronising monomaniacal bores about anyone who disagrees with you

Well said!

EntropyRising · 25/11/2019 10:51

I think we all know the apparatchiks can't achieve their soaring heights without capital controls.

GlitchStitch · 25/11/2019 10:51

I don't have any wealth. I receive UC and carers allowance due to my disabled child. My partner works but is a low earner. Stop making assumptions about people.

Bungalois · 25/11/2019 10:52

woollie34 would you like to comment on the youtube clip I posted above which shows Jeremy Corbyns' Momentum in action.

SilverySurfer · 25/11/2019 10:52

Thanks for the thread OP, although I see a couple of left wingers haven't read the title Hmm

I'm not a BJ fan but it's inconceivable to me to vote for any other party.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 25/11/2019 10:53

Getting a sense of dejavu here. Prior to the referendum leavers said we should not worry about brexit it would be easy and economically beneficial. Trust Johnson, Gove and Farage, fear the "EUSSR" and their army they said.

Now I am being told not to worry about the things happening before my eyes (privatisation, austerity) getting even worse. Trust Johnson and Trump fear "communists" they say.

Orwellian stuff.

GlitchStitch · 25/11/2019 10:54

Woolie what is your opinion on Dawn Butler choosing to throw women completely under the bus the other day? And why would I vote for someone who appears less well educated than my 11 year old, who appears only able to communicate through the medium of emojis, to be in charge of our education system?

x2boys · 25/11/2019 10:55

Your making a lot of assumptions woolie ,it don't think either of the two major parties are particularly great but I think conservative,s are the better of the two evils ,and I'm the parent of a severely disabled child and we don't have a,lot of money .

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 25/11/2019 10:56

those who believe everything they read from dubious sources

woolie34 Did you read the links I sent ?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/11/2019 10:56

woolie
Your posts are a perfect example of confirmation bias.

BovaryX · 25/11/2019 10:56

I think we all know the apparatchiks can't achieve their soaring heights without capital controls.

Precisely. And that puts them in
the company of some of the most admirable regimes in history. Not. They have already laid out a program of forcible state confiscation. Wealth is mobile and there will be an exodus when they start punitive taxes. Just like there was under Hollande. No matter how many times this paradigm plays out, the far left still can’t grasp it

NiteFlights · 25/11/2019 10:58

I agree that too many left-leaning types, and especially Momentum types, alienate potential voters. I don’t like the identity politics and some of the class rhetoric from the left. As a MC lefty myself I find it insulting and irritating.

Re the NHS, yes, it needs reform. For those who admire the US system, though, I suggest you look at it in more detail. Having money does not guarantee anything - unless by money you mean literally millions. People lose their houses paying their medical bills. For the average earner the ongoing bills for relatively ordinary operations etc can be crushing. Paying for essential medications can be extremely expensive. The bills are an accepted part of life there, even if you have insurance, and insurance is usually tied to your job. Social care is really problematic too. Please look into it more, first impressions can be highly misleading. We should avoid the US route at all costs.

scaryteacher · 25/11/2019 10:59

Having just returned after 13 years in Belgium (which is why I knew people maimed and killed in the airport and metro bombings), we could look at how they run their health system. It's co pay, with people paying into a mutuelle (insurance scheme) but some of the costs covered by the state. Those on low incomes get covered by the state as well.

The system is efficient, so much so that when my Mum had to go in when she was visiting, the bill got back to UK before she did. It's about €20 to visit the GP. The cost of medications reflect their true cost however!!
