It’s ‘best of a bad bunch’ in my case but there are three threads petrified of BJ/Tories so wondered if any MN Tories would like to gather here!

Always have voted Labour but will be voting Tory due to anti-semitism that is rife though out the Labour Party. We are in a swing seat so hopefully if others feel the same as me our Labour MP will be out.

EntropyRising · 26/11/2019 08:32

Incidentally, this has been a mostly great thread and it's nearly full, so perhaps the OP (or someone else) would like to create a 2.0 as it approaches expiry....

EntropyRising · 26/11/2019 08:33

The problem is, we will literally never eradicate relative poverty so I don’t lose sleep over that.

I mentioned this on a thread some weeks back and the left was apoplectic with rage.

Where there is freedom, there is poverty. We can and should try to manage levels of poverty, but it cannot be eradicated.

Goddessofgrowth · 26/11/2019 08:34

I’ll start a new thread now

@EntropyRising

Ha!
I wouldn’t enter that squalid arena for anything. However:
One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors

twofingerstoEverything · 26/11/2019 08:42

Incidentally, this has been a mostly great thread and it's nearly full, so perhaps the OP (or someone else) would like to create a 2.0 as it approaches expiry....

And maybe they should put it in the 'Politics' section, where it rightly belongs. Brexit-related threads always get moved from AIBU, so I don't know why this should be any different.

EntropyRising · 26/11/2019 08:42

Nice one, I see we have a Classics whiz amongst our ranks.

Trewser · 26/11/2019 08:44

I don't know. Presumably because the numerous threads with disingenuous titles started by Labour supporters aren't moved either?

Goddessofgrowth · 26/11/2019 08:45

I’m happy for mnhq to move it

TheGirlFromStoryville · 26/11/2019 08:47

Conservative here.

Labour has gone overboard with the tax and spend policies in their manifesto. Most of it is pure fantasy. Where are they getting the £58bn? to compensate the WASPIs? It's just nonsensical.

Apart from anything else, I'm most concerned about the AS in the Labour Party, as reflected in the Chief Rabbi's intervention. DH is from a fairly middle class Jewish family that always voted Labour but not any more.

twofingerstoEverything · 26/11/2019 08:47

I don't ever read the Daily Mail or Katie Hopkins. Are you suggesting that I should?

Yes, Trewser, I am, because you seem to be labouring under the illusion that the left has some kind of monopoly on 'batshit crazy and aggressive stuff'. A foray onto websites/social media pages like DM or KH will demonstrate to you that this is not the case. What it won't do, however, is satisfy your confirmation bias.

Trewser · 26/11/2019 08:49

That's the most ridiculous thing I've read so far this week, well done 🤣🤣

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 08:51

“Women have already been told to die in a grease fire by another person desperate to stop discussion on a topic that Labour fully endorse.”

Indeed!!! Confused

Also, It has occurred to me more and more, that the momentum types here, who like to ‘re educate’ and use extreme hyperbole and smoke and mirrors to shut down the dissenting thoughts of others, remind me of MLM HUN BOTS.

Flashy conferences, undying devotion to the leader at the top of the pyramid , failure to see that the leader will in fact make them poorer, uses the ‘well, the company has charities and cares about disadvantaged groups etc...’ to offset criticism and make you sound like the bad guy for pointing out common sense etc..., ignores that the leader often has dubious links with people and ideologies they might otherwise find immoral etc... last and not least, has a tacky overpriced product that they desperately need to sell (labour) but no sensible person wants to buy.

EntropyRising · 26/11/2019 08:51

Yes, Trewser, I am, because you seem to be labouring under the illusion that the left has some kind of monopoly on 'batshit crazy and aggressive stuff'.

I'm not sure what you and Trewser are on about but in general, many have commented that they are troubled by the rise of the intolerant left, who are aggressively peddling the notion that there is no other moral choice than the left.

I don't think you'll find nearly the same level of 'disgust' at opposing viewpoints coming out of conservative quarters.

It was quite literally the Tories who put the whole self-ID issue on the table.

And if you think that the conservatives give the tiniest toss about women’s rights you’re beyond reasoning with.

Actually I am proud of being a Conservative.

After everything that people have shared about their experiences under this government, and everything we know about the damage they’ve done to people, it says a lot about you that you are proud of supporting them.

Corbyn is “friends” with the Islamist regime in Iran, for example. He visits them every year to celebrate the anniversary of their glorious revolution

This seems to be a complete lie. Firstly, please provide evidence of these annual visits if you’re going to make that claim. I certainly can’t find any.

Corbyn has visited Iran... alongside Jack Straw and others, as part of an APPG on Iran.
The government says otherwise:

Corbyn and his ilk unapologetically break bread with some of the most odious regimes on earth

Christ. You’ve never heard about people in glass houses I presume? Or have we not been arming Saudi Arabia and meeting with Duterte? Was Thatcher not lifelong friends with Pinochet? That’s quite the selective reasoning you’re showing.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 26/11/2019 08:57

On the MLM thing, the denial of Jeremy Corbyn’s anti semitism is the “its not a Pyramid Scheme!” Response. Despite masses of evidence to the contrary.

EntropyRising · 26/11/2019 08:59

And if you think that the conservatives give the tiniest toss about women’s rights you’re beyond reasoning with

I'm perfectly happy for you to carry on thinking in this way. Just let us know when Labour manages to install a woman PM.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 26/11/2019 09:06

On the MLM thing, the denial of Jeremy Corbyn’s anti semitism is the “its not a Pyramid Scheme!” Response. Despite masses of evidence to the contrary.

I saw something recently which said that there was "no empirical evidence to support the claim of antisemitism" (or something very precisely and deliberately worded like that)

It's the new "I did not have sexual relations with that woman". Or "I am legally recognised as a woman" in terms of weasel words.

EntropyRising · 26/11/2019 09:08

Christ. You’ve never heard about people in glass houses I presume? Or have we not been arming Saudi Arabia and meeting with Duterte? Was Thatcher not lifelong friends with Pinochet? That’s quite the selective reasoning you’re showing.

Literally the only Western country that has taken Saudi Arabia to task is Sweden. Note, they're of rather less strategic importance than other permanent Security Council/G7/NATO member states. Great that they've done it, though.

As for Thatcher and Pinochet, that was all about the Falklands and you should know that. I realise your great leader is a blinkered pacifist who would never have to make such difficult choices because he'd be curled up in a corner if any hostile threats were to be advanced on his watch.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 26/11/2019 09:15

After everything that people have shared about their experiences under this government, and everything we know about the damage they’ve done to people, it says a lot about you that you are proud of supporting them.

This easily applies to Labour too though. Labour isn't the shining beacons of eternal love and perfection happiness it is claimed. If it was, there would be a 100% vote for them.

Clavinova · 26/11/2019 09:18

Those purporting to be “terrified” by Labour’s spending plans have been suckered by hyperbolic tabloid headlines-163 economists and academics have signed a letter to the Financial Times backing Labour’s planned investment

This letter?

"Although most of the signatories are left-leaning academics" ...

"Five who took the lead in promoting the letter included David Blanchflower [aged 67] ...The others were Victoria Chick [aged 83], Meghnad Desai [aged 79] Stephany Griffith-Jones [aged 72] and Simon Wren-Lewis."

The over 65s are often blamed for the referendum result of course, but when it comes to economic policy...

"I’m an ITU nurse and a Trauma Nurse Specialist. I see the sickest of the sick, please believe us front liners when we say the @Conservatives are destroying our #NHS. It is #MyPublicDuty to be concerned on your behalf, it’s also my duty to ensure it stays that way. #VoteLabour"

The nurse has also tweeted;

"If I was a millionaire it would last a year........I am THAT good at spending money."

spacepyramid · 26/11/2019 09:18

This easily applies to Labour too though. Labour isn't the shining beacons of eternal love and perfection happiness it is claimed. If it was, there would be a 100% vote for them.

Don't be so ridiculous. There will never be 100% support for one political party unless you live in the kind of dictatorship that shouldn't exist.

Gin96 · 26/11/2019 09:23

I was dithering about voting for Labour until I saw this, this morning

Alsohuman · 26/11/2019 09:24

Our incredibly unscientific straw poll suggests that when they reach staff grade/consultant and make a bit more cash, they quietly flip to Tory...

Funny that, why doesn’t it surprise me? The more you’ve got, the tighter you get it seems. That saintly NHS provides you with an income in the top 1%, you might have the decency to show it some respect.
