It’s ‘best of a bad bunch’ in my case but there are three threads petrified of BJ/Tories so wondered if any MN Tories would like to gather here!

Of course, Death, that’s the point, isn’t it? If my circumstances were different, I might well be voting differently, but that applies to you as much as it does to me.

No it doesn’t because I don’t vote based on what’s best for me personally.

I’ve been a high earner, I still didn’t vote Tory. I will have to pay more corporation tax under a labour government - I’m still not voting Tory. Even before I had children I never would have voted for a party who treats vulnerable people this way.

There are 13.9 million disabled people in the U.K., that’s not an insignificant number. Around 1/3 of children live in poverty. Again, a substantial number.

Piggywaspushed · 26/11/2019 07:53

I know it was an analogy but you did appear to just compare the disabled to South American Tree Monkeys. Hmm

Goddessofgrowth · 26/11/2019 07:55

Agreed. Some of Labour’s policies would apparently see me earning more (but I don’t believe them!)

However, I personally am not taking one thing and using it as the reason I vote one way or another - others do, that’s fine. But it reaches a stalemate of ‘well what about the disabled’ countered quickly with ‘well what about women’ quite quickly.

OP posts:
Trewser · 26/11/2019 07:59

Tommy Robinson is not a member of the conservative party.

FadingStar · 26/11/2019 08:02

Best reason ever for voting for a particular party . "I didn't know what to do and then I read some people being mean on the internet and made my decision..." (Because the whole of 'the left' is on this thread and the whole of 'the left' is rude.)

A lot of Tory voters want to blame others for driving them to vote for that shower...they know deep down it's a really shitty thing to do.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 26/11/2019 08:04

@Trewser it makes me laugh that some people saying 'Tommy Robinson said to vote Tory' as their reasoning for voting otherwise.

Trewser · 26/11/2019 08:05

I don't think it is at all shitty to vote Conservative. I think its shitty to vote for a party who can't possibly do all the things they say they can and who would leave the economy in a terrible state, I do understand why people do it though, because they are given false hope.

Deathgrip · 26/11/2019 08:07

Tommy Robinson is not a member of the conservative party.

How do you know the earlier commenter is a member of the Labour Party? I’m not, I’m sure most people commenting aren’t members of the party they are supporting.

But it reaches a stalemate of ‘well what about the disabled’ countered quickly with ‘well what about women’ quite quickly.

What about women? You think the tories are more likely to prioritise women’s rights, just because they haven’t mentioned the GRA in their manifesto? The conservatives - that bastion of womens’ rights and equality, and led by Johnson?

Trewser · 26/11/2019 08:08

I think, on the internet, the Labour voters think they have the moral high ground, so play it for all it is worth. I expect as the date comes nearer, and the Lib Dems dissolve into obscurity and the Tories move further ahead, that the Labour rhetoric will ramp up, nastier and nastier.

Deathgrip · 26/11/2019 08:09

it makes me laugh that some people saying 'Tommy Robinson said to vote Tory' as their reasoning for voting otherwise.

The posters here really can’t help throwing out misrepresentations can they? It’s a learned skill, it seems.

That’s not what I said.

Trewser · 26/11/2019 08:09

deathgrip i am pointing out that a vote for the tories is not a vote for Tommy Robinson.

Deathgrip · 26/11/2019 08:11

Ah yes, those nasty lefties and the lovely cuddly right wing. Give me a break.

Playing the moral high ground? My children are not pawns. When you vote for a party who is very deliberately and unnecessarily making cuts which harm them, am I not right to be pretty pissed off about that?

Deathgrip · 26/11/2019 08:12

You’re arguing against a point which hasn’t been made

And what about Labour’s stance on women’s rights, death?

See we can keep this going forever. Both parties have faults. But one of them will be in power and I’d rather it was the Tories.

BovaryX · 26/11/2019 08:17

Actually I am proud of being a Conservative. I am not a statist authoritarian. I believe freedom is a defining value. I believe in low taxes and serious sentencing for recidivist criminals. I believe sex segregated spaces are vital for women’s safety. I don’t believe the state has the right to confiscate individual assets and redistribute them to whomever it deems worthy. I don’t want McDonnell, Abbott, Dawn Butler etc anywhere near the Treasury. Those who come here to ask why people are voting Conservative but are incapable of grasping the answers? Great. Vote Labour. And millions of people who aren’t buying what you’re selling will vote Conservative.

@Deathgrip I didn't see your post I responded to Trewser that's why my post say @Trewser not @Deathgrip Hmm

“I don't think it is at all shitty to vote Conservative. I think its shitty to vote for a party who can't possibly do all the things they say they can and who would leave the economy in a terrible state,“

Just to check, you were trying to describe labour and not saying, it’s not shitty to vote Tory in principle, but it is shitty to vote for them just now because they can’t possibly do all the things they say they can and would leave the economy in a terrible state?

Because to me, you just described the Conservative party...

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/11/2019 08:27

No political parties have made significant inroads into poverty in the last 20 years. Poverty rates now are similar to 2000.

fullfact.org/economy/poverty-uk-guide-facts-and-figures/

No party should be feeling proud.

@BovaryX for Prime Minister.

Okay...

EntropyRising · 26/11/2019 08:30

The conservatives - that bastion of womens’ rights and equality, and led by Johnson?

Deathgrip, I trust the Tories with women's rights far more than I do Labour. Not sure how this is so hard for you to grasp.

Goddessofgrowth · 26/11/2019 08:32

The problem is, we will literally never eradicate relative poverty so I don’t lose sleep over that.
