It’s ‘best of a bad bunch’ in my case but there are three threads petrified of BJ/Tories so wondered if any MN Tories would like to gather here!

@scaryteacher I wouldn't listen to Jack straw, he was terrible at his job. But I'm not voting for that Labour party I'm votingfor the current one.

ajandjjmum · 25/11/2019 12:21

scaryteacher
Thank you for posting the full article - context is a wonderful thing!

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 12:22

@scaryteacher the first two are American publications. I would say America has a very vested interest in this election and tories winning

BovaryX · 25/11/2019 12:23

Fourth, I see you have defaulted to the textbook insults to try and stifle legitimate questions. Why do you do that?

You have answered your own excellent question. To stifle legitimate questions. This is their modus operandi. Dictate narrative. Stifle dissent. It’s an ugly little tautology. If you’re not in favor of self ID? You’re a bigot. Proof of bigotry? You’re not in favor of self ID.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 12:23

@scaryteacher similarly the third is Australian written (who are also right wing). I'm talking about the sources these opinion pieces originated from

Wishforsnow · 25/11/2019 12:25

Just dropping in to say Woolie has convinced me I am doing the right thing voting Conservative this time.

Lockshunkugel · 25/11/2019 12:25

I’m Jewish and worried about antisemitism in the current Labour Party. The thought of Corbyn as prime minister has scared me so much that I’ve gone out campaigning for the local Conservatives!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/11/2019 12:25

You want national defence sources published on MN. Good luck with that.

Jack Straw was FS he probably has a slightly better idea how international defence cooperation works than most people.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 25/11/2019 12:27

🤮

Alsohuman · 25/11/2019 12:27

Says the person complaining about anyone who isn’t a Tory posting on this thread.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/11/2019 12:27

I notice all those who remember Blair and Brown seem to have conveniently forgotten Derek Hatton and Militant.

Alsohuman · 25/11/2019 12:29

Nope, remember Hatton and Militant. I remember Thatcher too.

Clavinova · 25/11/2019 12:29

I assume that the Labour Party are planning to give all economic migrants, all future economic migrants and all illegal immigrants full access to social housing, instant access to benefits, free broadband etc? Poverty disproportionately affects non-UK citizens in this country - Labour won't be able to stamp out poverty unless everyone is treated the same.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 12:29

@BuzzShitbagBobbly um, I didn't. Call you or anyone here bigots or racists. I said I don't like bigots or racists, but I'm not trying to stop them sharing my space. I could have said the same for wasps, I don't like them either. But the fact you thought I was calling you that is very telling! I also didn't write any insults, as saying "bigot" or "racist" isn't insulting, but just in case I am very sorry if I insulted any bigots or racists! Also, if you are trying to appear non transphobic, I'm afraid it is coming across like you are transphobic. But then trying to convey yourself clearly on the Internet can be hard.

Malteserdiet · 25/11/2019 12:29

My biggest problem with Corbyn is that, in his own words, he is not a “born leader.”
Whatever ideals we all like to have and wish were the case about global politics, I’d sadly rather have a pompous asshole type as PM and who therefore might give us some kind of chance to stand up for the country when required than an absolute pushover.
I also hate all his privatisation ideas.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/11/2019 12:30

Then you will also recognise that Blair and Brown are a world apart from John McDonnell.

Deathgrip · 25/11/2019 12:30

To be clear, you’re saying that because some poverty will always remain despite any government’s best efforts, any government shouldn’t bother tackling the fixable causes of poverty because it won’t work for everyone? Is that really your view?

scaryteacher · 25/11/2019 12:30

Woolie Just because the articles are from US publications, doesn't mean they aren't worth reading. The first is by a Professor who has also been a UK government adviser on extremism, so worth a read. The second is by a journalist in London, writing for a US publication. The third is from the Times, which as far as I can see is quite neutral.

I didn't mention Jack Straw, it was a PP.

If the Aussies are concerned about UK access to Five Eyes in the case of a Corbyn government, which is what the Times article said at the start, then we should be listening very carefully to what they are saying.

You evidently don't want to expand your knowledge on defence and intelligence, and given we owe a lot of our security to the US from the Five Eyes to the massive contribution they make to NATO, which allows you to sleep safely at night, it might behove you to read the articles, which you obviously didn't from the times between my post and yours.

If you aren't going to engage in the discussion about legitimate concerns expressed by those in the defence and intelligence communities, then why bother being on here?

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 12:31

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude I guess if neither of us can actually see it we will just have to agree to follow our preferred method of source retelling through whichever publication we chose to believe and agree to disagree.

Deathgrip · 25/11/2019 12:32

Some kind of chance? Stand up for the country? Are you honestly talking about Boris Johnson? This guy?

GlitchStitch · 25/11/2019 12:32

'Transphobic' has become a completely meaningless term. Now anybody who believes in biology is labelled such. I see trans people called transphobic regularly just for acknowledging reality. Do they hate themselves?

EffervescentElephant · 25/11/2019 12:32

@woolie34 - you wrote an insightful and generous post. I was born into a well-off family, we owned out own home and there was no want of food, books, holidays. My father was a left-wing entrepreneur who taught me that if society is wealthy we are all well off: good public spaces, good cultural life, good schools. I went to my local grammar.

In addition, I believe that "the dream" of capitalism that we are sold is not really that great. I am in the process of walking the walk as well as talking the talk, I am about to leave a successful, high-flying career for a more modest profession because I am sick and tired of the stress-networking-compromises that came with it. The materialism. There must be another way. Having stuff is not the ultimate goal.

That is why I decided to post on this thread, to appeal to moderate one-nation Tory to follow the example of Kenneth Clark and move on - that is no longer your old party - of course I realise that Labour could be a big jump - I realise - but there are alternatives: Lib Dems, Independent. You can do this!

scaryteacher · 25/11/2019 12:33

ajandjjmum It's a pleasure - I don't like niqabs either, and I have a burka for teaching purposes, and it's an horrendous garment. I fail to see why anyone would wish to wear one, but he is defending their right to do so.
