To say that the minutes seem eternal at this hour (and ask who’s up)

Hi all,
I’m staying with my grandparents and wakened up at 03.55 and have been awake ever since. I wakened at 03.55, waited until 04.00 to get out of bed, came into the kitchenette and poured a drink, went back into the bedroom for my phone, came back to the kitchenette and sat down at the table where I still am. It feels like an eternity since I woke up, so I’m starting this thread for some chat.

Morning! I woke up at 00:50 when my husband went to the loo, almost 4 hours later I'm still WIDE awake Angry

cheeseislife8 · 24/11/2019 04:30

Hello! I can't sleep either. Woke up with a start at 3.15 and that was that!

Chattybum · 24/11/2019 04:32

I woke up at 1am, still awake and now soothing myself with a nice murder documentary Hmm

Idolovechocolategimmygimmy · 24/11/2019 04:32

I'm awake too. I went for a wee and had a sneeze fit. I hope I'm not getting poorly. Urgh!
I hope we all manage to get back to sleep!

Noseynails · 24/11/2019 04:32

Awww poor you @Balloondog it’s a nightmare isn’t it? What do you have planned for the day ahead?
apart from killing your husbandGrin

I went to bed at 9:00 as I was so exhausted. woke at 2:30 and trying to work towards some more sleep. I spent an hour in bed trying to resettle and then came downstairs. had a snack. waiting to start feeling drowsy before i go back to bed.

Noseynails · 24/11/2019 04:36

@cheeseislife8 why don’t you put in your earphones and listen to music?
@Chattybum no no no no no! Don’t do this to yourself, turn it off or you’ll not sleep!
@Idolovechocolategimmygimmy I think you need a lemsip and some chocolate (or gin, going by your username)

Noseynails · 24/11/2019 04:37

@SoxiFodoujUmed what did you have? I think I’ll have something… late night food is the best!

Balloondog · 24/11/2019 04:39

@Noseynails Fortunately I've an easy day ahead, housework and packing for a work trip on Monday so I should be able to fit a nap in but I'm already panicking that will mean I won't sleep tomorrow night when I really need to ahead of meetings all day Monday.
How about you?

Chattybum · 24/11/2019 04:42

@noseynails nooo I love a murder doc! Now reading Reddit 'No Sleep' guarantees a fretful night double checking the door is locked and refusing to get up for a wee! Usually an audio book sends me off nicely but it just wasn't working tonight. I'm a very all or nothing sleeper. It's horrible being awake at someone else's house though! Are your grandparents early risers?

Noseynails · 24/11/2019 04:44

@Balloondog not much, I’m going home from my grandparents’ house, so will probably lie down at home in the afternoon.
Remember how I said I was going to have food? Well I’m having Black Forest cake and cream! The cake is on its side. That’s the last bit… grandad won’t be happy!

I'm up too , my two year old has a cold and is up for the 4th time tonight with a face covered in snot. He only seems to settle curled up on my lap. I'm counting the hours until my husband gets him up for breakfast so that I can grab a few hours sleep.

Balloondog · 24/11/2019 04:47

I've just had toast and marmite and am watching a crappy Christmas movie on Netflix in the hope that its awfulness will put me to sleep!

OvalCanvas · 24/11/2019 04:47

@Noseynails that cake looks so good.

Chattybum · 24/11/2019 04:47

God i love black forest! I've had buttered toast while also reading a thread about weight loss... Healthy eating resumes on Monday.

Ravenrob · 24/11/2019 04:52

Cake looks so good! I woke up at 4.25, no idea why.

Noseynails · 24/11/2019 04:52

@Chattybum this is like my second home,I stay here every weekend, so I feel able to potter about in my nightie without waking them. Grandad isn’t an early riser by any means, but Gran is, she’ll probably be wakened soon looking for a cuppa. Every weekend she wakes before everyone else, usually about 06.00 so she’ll be up soon. @OvalCanvas aww that’s a shame, the poor darling, why don’t you put on a film for yourself? @Chattybum I think I would genuinely shit myself watching and reading things like that at this hour!

I’ve still not eaten it, must eat it now, I had a bit on Friday too, so I know it’s lovely. It’s from Aldi. There’s also Tesco Victoria sponge so I won’t go hungry!

4 y o DD woke up crying at 2.30. Brought her into our bed in the hope she'd settle but just ended up getting kicked/pokedconstantly. Didn't help that the quilt was skewiff and I had the button end but most of it was wrapped around DH anyway, leaving a 40 cm chasm of no quilt on my side of the (superking) bed! Grrr.

Gave up about half an hour after that and came downstairs with phone and iPod in hand. Been listening to relaxing classical stuff for 2ish hrs now while laying in sofa snuggled under a big throw, but no joy. Might get a glass of milk in a min.

It seems to happen more often now I'm mid/late 40s. Perhaps it's hormonal. Or perhaps I'm just an oversensitive light sleeper in comparison to DH who is hilarious when he wakes suddenly in the night!....The other night, at 2.45am, he went to answer a cry from 4yo DD then came back in and started getting dressed for work! I said "
What are you doing? It's 2.45!" He sat stick still for 20 seconds then laid down and went straight back off instantly. When he's really tired, he even falls asleep kid sentence, which is as annoying as it is amusing! 😬😂

Newbie1981 · 24/11/2019 04:56

Woke up starving so eating the left over takeaway! No wonder I'm fat! Will stay awake now, furious

SoxiFodoujUmed · 24/11/2019 04:58

I had a bit of cake thay I brought home from the party I was at earlier. then a bit of cheese and some pistachio nuts which are apparently high in melatonin. feeling a bit drowsy not sipp maybe will try to sleep.

MrsMonkeyBear · 24/11/2019 04:58

I'm up. I have to be though as I'm at work in 90 minutes. Thankfully, it will be a relatively easy day. I just have to cook breakfast for 60, make some afternoon teas and a few other wee jobs. Might even try to leave early.

Noseynails · 24/11/2019 04:59

I think I wakened because I wanted a drink (this house is very warm). I always keep lucozade beside the bed, I downed that then came into the kitchenette for red cola, went back for my phone, came back, sat down, had cake and spoke to you lovely lot!

OP posts:
Chattybum · 24/11/2019 05:07

@Noseynails that's lovely that you are happy there. All my grandparents are all long gone now but I used to love staying over at theirs, it's funny, I haven't thought about that for many years! My Nana was famous for her three or four course breakfasts. Cereal, Pancakes, fried breakfast, rounded off with jelly and ice cream if you could manage it. My parents and aunties and uncles despaired because my cousins and I used to stay at hers a lot. She was also banned from giving us sunny delight, which she cheerfully ignored. She grew up in grinding poverty and loved feeding her grandchildren up.

Iamclearlyamug · 24/11/2019 05:07

morning all, i was up at 5.30am (which is 2.30am in the UK - it's only just gone 5am now in the UK I think) because I'm at the airport ready to fly back, having just said a very tearful goodbye to my partner - i won't see him now until February. Life sucks today, I'm tired and I'm terrified of flying so that doesn't help either 🙈🙈
