To think three 14 inch pizzas is too much between 5?

DH has asked me to pick up pizza for dinner. There are 5 of us (4 adults and one child) and he's asked me to get three 14 inch ones. AIBU to think this is way too much pizza for the 5 of us?? I get him wanting me to get 3 due to different preferences but surely we could just get 3 10 inch pizzas?

What would you get for 5 people if it was a choice of 10 inch or 14 inch?

@steff13 this is what I don't get about competitive undereating. I am never knowingly under catered. I'd prefer people to to leave full and happy and be left with with some delicious leftovers then stingy 'TWO SLICES PER PERSON' types.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 22/11/2019 09:47

Wish I could understand the love for pizza - I hate the stuff. Being allergic to basil and oregano doesn't help, but the smell of oregano is so strong always, it makes me feel sick.

Wheresthebloodysellotape · 22/11/2019 09:50

Um yeah, I could eat one of those on my own.

DangerClose · 22/11/2019 09:56

I don't understand this. If my friends bought one 14 inch pizza between the 3 of us and there's only one extra adult (DH) and a 7 year old, how is it not overkill to get an extra two 14 inch pizzas?

This is why your thread is largely pointless because it all depends on the people, doesn't it?

Most people on this thread have said 3 for 5 people is good because almost everyone would eat more than a third of a pizza each. If you and your original 2 friends share 1 pizza between the 3 of you, then of course 2 more is overkill. But most people replying are basing it on their own appetites.

Assume OP’s issue is concern about the portion sizes and calories rather than cost (since pizza is relatively inexpensive). That’s fine when deciding for yourself, but your companions may not share your concerns/opinions.

coconuttelegraph · 22/11/2019 10:03

since pizza is relatively inexpensive

I dont think the OP has said where the pizza is coming from but my local dominos is the polar opposite of inexpensive Grin

That said this seems like a total non problem to me

CurryAndCobra · 22/11/2019 10:15

We always get more pizza than we need. DH likes it as a cold breakfast and I like it warmed up for lunch with some salad (pointless)

StillCoughingandLaughing · 22/11/2019 10:18

For me that would be way too much. No wonder we have an obesity crisis! Wow!

Seriously, is there some kind of affiliate scheme I don’t know about where people get Nectar points every time they say this? Sweet Jesus.

Loopytiles · 22/11/2019 10:18

I was assuming hosting at home. Asda pizza bar 14 inch pizzas are £3.50-£4.00, and IMO very tasty!

Take out more expensive, our Dominoes and Pappa Johns are rubbish pizzas, DH sometimes gets one, but always doing offers.

adaline · 22/11/2019 10:20

I dont think the OP has said where the pizza is coming from but my local dominos is the polar opposite of inexpensive

You can get a 14 inch pizza with six toppings of your choice from ASDA for around £4.50 (well, it was £4.50 when I worked there a few years ago, price may have gone up since then). You had a choice of bases, sauce and a list of about 15 toppings to pick from.

Seaweed42 · 22/11/2019 10:24

I would say 3 x 14 is about right.
We would get 2 x 16 in pizzas for 2 adults and 2 older teenagers.

Is there any another reason why you are annoyed about this meal?

ToTheRegimentIWishIWasThere · 22/11/2019 10:28

Well I hope you're happy Op, I'm going to have to have takeaway pizza for tea and that is about a million hours away. So technically now, you're contributing to my obesity crisis. Selfish.

MonChatEstMagnifique · 22/11/2019 10:30

5 pages on how much pizza to order...I fucking love mumsnet. 🍕

JigsawsAreInPieces · 22/11/2019 10:31

There is no such thing as too much pizza. 😱

Fluffy40 · 22/11/2019 10:38

Two slices of pizza is enough for me , plus salad and bread

MikeUniformMike · 22/11/2019 10:39

StillCoughingandLaughing. Has it crossed your mind that there may be some truth in it?

DieHardISaChristmasFilm · 22/11/2019 10:44

Well done! Fluffy40 Hmm

adaline · 22/11/2019 10:46

If you didn't eat the bread, you could have more pizza! Why do you need pizza AND bread?

Loopytiles · 22/11/2019 10:49

I’m a carb fiend, but don’t understand carbs with carbs. Pizza IS bread.

Pizza and chips or bread doesn’t go IMO.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/11/2019 10:50

3 pizzas = half each with some left over. Probably an average amount.
1/3 pizza = lighter appetite

Depends on base as well - takeaway pizza is a lot stodgier than supermarket pizza.

Sounds like your partner is basing it on his appetite- which could be 1 pizza not enough for him and his daughter. You are judging on your appetite, which is one for 3 people.

Personally I'm another over caterer when it comes to guests.

FizzyIce · 22/11/2019 10:50

Yabu. It’s pizza!

KitMarlowesCodpieceOfThigh · 22/11/2019 10:59

This thread is amazing.

Personally, I can only eat plain pizza. Toppings make it too filling. And too enjoyable. I prefer to be able to maintain an air of martyrdom about my food intake.

Loopydizzylove · 22/11/2019 11:14

I would normally get 3 12 inch pizzas, large house kebab (one of the huge mixed ones) 2 portions of chips, large garlic bread, coleslaw, salad and some chicken strips.... That's for 2 adults and 3 kids under 10. Always some leftovers for late evening peckishness and for breakfast. I am a self confessed feeder but none of my family are overweight.... Far from it, healthy balanced diet otherwise.... So as far as the occasional blowout on pizza is concerned, take your obesity crisis and shove it up your salad eating butt Grin

Crunchymum · 22/11/2019 11:19

MN is just so bloody weird about food.
