To think three 14 inch pizzas is too much between 5?

DH has asked me to pick up pizza for dinner. There are 5 of us (4 adults and one child) and he's asked me to get three 14 inch ones. AIBU to think this is way too much pizza for the 5 of us?? I get him wanting me to get 3 due to different preferences but surely we could just get 3 10 inch pizzas?

What would you get for 5 people if it was a choice of 10 inch or 14 inch?

We'd always have a 10 or 12" each.

As long as you have a balanced diet (which you can't possibly tell from this post), it's absolutely fine to have a big portion of a treat meal. There isn't a war on, you know, and the shop will still be able to provide for other customers.

If you're hosting - I avoid putting myself in a situation of being subject to stingy hosts more than once!

BlouseAndSkirt · 22/11/2019 07:50

How old is the child?

If over 4 you might not have enough.

I would allow 2/3 of s pizza per adult so that only leaves 1/3 for the child. 2 slices. And you need to allow leeway for one flavour to be the most popular / in demand.

Tminus3days · 22/11/2019 07:50

Okay seems I'm BU. It's just the other 2 adults used to buy one 14 inch pizza between the 3 of us (before I met DH) so I just assumed three 14 inch pizzas would be too much. Maybe you're right and I do just have very small appetite.

DC is 7. Her appetite varies depending on what day it is and what she's had for school lunch.

Your DH is correct.

Tminus3days · 22/11/2019 07:52

Also it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, I'd just rather not have food wastage so thought I'd get a wider opinion.

Three large pizzas between four adults is about right, imho.

Smaller pizzas are tiny. One each with garlic bread, wedges, salad may be enough but very much on the stingy side, and of course you can stick any extras in the fridge for tomorrow.

(Waiting for all the competitive eaters to pile in with OMG a 14 inch pizza would feed my whole family for a month, how can you eat SO much, I'd be full after just one mouthful blah blah blah)

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2019 07:53

Why would it be wasted? Just eat it the next day.

BertrandRussell · 22/11/2019 07:53

Be the better woman, OP. Just because your friends are rubbish hosts doesn’t mean you have to be too! As people have said, any leftovers can go in the freezer.

Fairyliz · 22/11/2019 07:55

And we wonder why we have an obesity crisis

cccameron · 22/11/2019 07:56

I imagine most adults would eat a 14inch themselves so 3 10inch pizzas would be incredibly stingy between 5 of you. My 8 Yr old dd eats a 10inch pizza to herself and she's a little waif with not much of an appetite.

adaline · 22/11/2019 07:56

Why would it be wasted?

Just have the leftovers for lunch.

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2019 07:56

Come off it fairy. One unhealthy meal won’t make everyone fat.

Fairylea · 22/11/2019 07:57

We don’t have an obesity crisis because people eat too much pizza as a treat for an odd night.

longwayoff · 22/11/2019 07:57

Sounds rather mean. It's only cheese on toast with bits on. It's just good manners to order more than you think will be enough.

Gatehouse77 · 22/11/2019 07:58

It wouldn't be wasted here as there'd be a rush for cold pizza for breakfast 🤣

cccameron · 22/11/2019 07:58

Me too PineappleDanish and bang on time we get this

And we wonder why we have an obesity crisis Grin Grin. I can just picture the cats bum mouth

Fairylea · 22/11/2019 08:01

I think the mythical mumsnet chicken (that feeds 4 people for a month) is going to be replaced by the mumsnet pizza slice....

BlouseAndSkirt · 22/11/2019 08:01

No one in my family is obese, and I would order the 3 pizzas.

The point is to have enough should people (guests!) like it, nit to force feed anyone.

TheHootiestOwl · 22/11/2019 08:02

Why would there be food waste? Eat it the next day. And if you won’t give it to your guests to take home.

KatherineJaneway · 22/11/2019 08:03

@Tminus3days Why would there be food wastage? You eat the leftovers the next day.

BertrandRussell · 22/11/2019 08:04

Mumsnet does have a morbid fear of leftovers. It’s very odd. I remember a Mumsnet chicken thread where someone said they roasted a chicken, carved the breast and threw the rest away, and nobody seemed to think this was strange....

misspiggy19 · 22/11/2019 08:04

@Fairyliz

And we wonder why we have an obesity crisis

^Oh the shame of ordering takeout pizza Hmm

RuffleCrow · 22/11/2019 08:04

Sounds fine. If it's too much surely you just have leftovers? Do you have other issues with food op?

ManiacalLapwing · 22/11/2019 08:06

I'd work it out on half a 10 inch pizza per adult or child about 10 or over, then allow for different preferences or for if you want some left over for tomorrow's lunch. Salad items on the side.

RosemarysBroomstick · 22/11/2019 08:07
