If so, where will you be going?

Unfortunately Corbyn views as “rich” anyone who earns over £40k

That simply isn’t true, nobody earning less than £80k will pay any more tax

You think.

What happens if there are significantly less people earning more than £80,000

Where will the money come from then?

Alsohuman · 22/11/2019 11:16

So you were willing to milk the system when it suited you but are very happy to pull the ladder up now you’ve got some money. Every time you post @Oliversmumsarmy, my respect for you falls a little more. We’re well into negative territory now.

WorldEndingFire · 22/11/2019 11:16

Imagine earning £80K a year and getting upset about paying a whole £8.80 per month to contribute towards the public services of the country you live in. Talk about grabby.

WorldEndingFire · 22/11/2019 11:18

*£8.80 more

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 22/11/2019 11:19

I then realised that if I gave up my jobs and became unemployed I not only got my rent paid I also was £11 per week better off and with my UB40 card I was eligible for loads of free stuff.
I used to spend my days at the local leisure centre which was free.
Sauna and swimming a few days per week with my friends

My god, the utter fucking hypocrisy.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 22/11/2019 11:20

No. I if corbyn gets in I will jump for joy and throw a party.

BinkyBaa · 22/11/2019 11:20

I think you've misread your audience OP. Theres plenty who don't like Corbyn, but a hell of a lot more just want Boris to go away by any means necessary.

If you want to have an interesting conversation about the Labour manifesto, you should go through it comprehensively.

Clavinova · 22/11/2019 11:31

*That simply isn’t true, nobody earning less than £80k will pay any more tax.^

Not true - FullFact:

Tax

"there’s more to tax than just VAT, income tax and National Insurance."

"For example Labour’s manifesto commits to scrapping marriage allowance, a policy introduced in 2015 which gives a tax break to couples with a combined income of under £62,500."

"In 2018/19, 1.78 million people claimed marriage allowance at a cost of £485 million."

"Apart from that there are various other taxes that could affect people with salaries of under £80,000."

"Labour has pledged to reverse cuts to inheritance tax made by the Conservatives since 2017, which allowed people to pass on an amount of property tax-free, in addition to the existing £325,000 tax free allowance which applies to all assets."

"Labour also plans to put corporation tax back up to 26%, following reductions over the past nine years."

"We typically think of corporation tax being associated with large companies, but corporation tax is paid by all limited businesses."

"Around one million UK businesses in 2017/18 had a corporation tax bill of up to £10,000, meaning in most cases their profits would have been no higher than £53,000."

DangerClose · 22/11/2019 11:36

We typically think of corporation tax being associated with large companies, but corporation tax is paid by all limited businesses

Around one million UK businesses in 2017/18 had a corporation tax bill of up to £10,000, meaning in most cases their profits would have been no higher than £53,000.

The manifesto says rates will be rising to 26%, but only 21% for businesses earning less than 300k. So it's only a 2% increase on those "up to 10k" bills. That's an extra £200 per year at most.

Clavinova · 22/11/2019 11:45

That's an extra £200 per year at most

Plus minimum wage increase for employees aged 16 + , plus loss of marriage tax allowance + extra inheritance tax...

If you think Labour have any chance of getting in you really must be divorced from reality.

Harpingon · 22/11/2019 12:17

What happens if high earners and companies DO Leave?? What is PLAN B?

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/11/2019 12:18

MaudBaileysGreenTurban

Why am I being hypocritical.

Labour didn’t want me to work so I didn’t.

Why would I do 60 hour weeks just to get to the same position as if I didn’t do anything.

I believe if you go to work then you should keep the majority of what you earn and it should be a lot more than benefits.

What I then spend or don’t spend my money on is up to me.

Bigbigboots · 22/11/2019 12:18

Very funny.
Bye!

cannycat20 · 22/11/2019 12:19

@MrsDoylesTea If you're heading for the US a) you're going to need a VERY good profession to get in OR alternatively have pots and pots of money, which I'm sure you have and b) you'll need to choose your state carefully. I don't think many of the cheaper states would suit you, and places like California, according to my friends who have lived there for some years now, are shockingly expensive once you take the taxes into account. They moved from Florida, and while their salaries more than doubled, so did everything else.

Then again, every state has its own personality, and since California alone is the size of the UK, approximately, I'm sure you'll find somewhere to suit you. Or if money is your main motivation there's always the Middle East, even now....

EntropyRising · 22/11/2019 12:22

Let’s not forget about the ‘democratic redistribution’ of company equity. 10% of 250+ employees.

McDonnel’s advisor was on politics live or similar last night explaining that this is completely normal and just like any other shareholder dilution.

Notonthestairs · 22/11/2019 12:25

Oliversmummy - are you arguing that you should have NOT be able to claim benefits?
and because you were entitled and did claim benefits then you are not prepared to pay more tax now?

Isn't the point that you should have been paid a fair wage when you were working so that you could support yourself?

Somerville · 22/11/2019 12:26

What happens if high earners and companies DO Leave?? What is PLAN B?

Err.. tax the companies that spring up to offer the goods and services of those that have left. And tax the individuals emigrating into Britain to do the well paying jobs of those who have just quit to move to the USA.

And in the meantime celebrate that British kids with cancer will once again have survival rates as high as the rest of the EU. Rather than waiting 3 weeks for an urgent MRI or screaming in agony overnight without any morphine because there are only two nurses who have had to stay at the bedsides of dying children. (Welcome to my world.)

springcomeround · 22/11/2019 12:29

I read the labour manifesto last night . It felt like they had written a huge long list of everything anyone anywhere had ever complained about and come up with a solution . It is a total fantasy . There is something there to appeal to most people though - there will be a lot of disappointed voters in a few years if they get in .

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/11/2019 12:29

Alsohuman

I would ask how many people who are in work and say they are struggling under the Tories if someone said to them that if you gave up work tomorrow and we will take care of your housing and we will give you enough money to pay all your bills and you will have money over at the end of the month.

I ask how many people would continue to work.

I was 16 at the time. I had no outside help so I had to choose the option that wouldn’t have made me homeless

Harpingon · 22/11/2019 12:35

But you are missing the point, if a big business leaves they will not take all their employees but they will take their clients. The employees will loose their jobs and be unable to pay bills / mortgages or pay tax into society. The business leaving will possibly cause the colapse of other business attached to it (suppliers / sandwich shops / bookeepers / uniform providers etc.) so they will all stop paying tax. There may not be the skills to replace the business that has gone (especially tech companies, who can work globally) .

So less tax coming in and no tax from company...... What is Plan B?? Where is the money coming from??

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/11/2019 12:36

Isn't the point that you should have been paid a fair wage when you were working so that you could support yourself

The point was that I ended up with £80 per month and rent on a shared flat of £60 per month and £4.04 on travel to work each week.
What I was paid gross and what I ended up with were 2 very different figures.

Under today’s tax system I would have been ok under Labours tax system I was in the red every month despite working at least 6 days per week.

Notonthestairs · 22/11/2019 12:36

I suspect more businesses will leave when we crash out of the EU in 13 months time then under a Labour government.
