To sleep with as many people as I wish

DP, his sister, mum, dad and I were all having a conversation regarding virginity after talking about people calling for the age of consent to be lowered.

It went onto the topic of how many people (average) one will sleep with in their lifetime. My DP's dad that he felt sorry for me, having slept with "so many" people at aged (almost) 20. And asked what had made my self worth so low. I was stunned into silence, but now I really want to say something. This was only a couple of hours ago, but DP thinks I just just leave it.

AIBU to be furious?

Then there's some excellent apps out there.
It's possible to use one and within an hour (depending on how rural you are or not) you can be with someone.

There's opportunities all around you.

spanglydangly · 20/11/2019 19:53

Of course you are entitled to sleep with as many partners as you like, the same as your DPs DF has a right to an opinion, you were having a discussion and his views were presumably part of that, otherwise it's not a discussion.

Mysterian · 20/11/2019 19:54

We've narrowed the OP down to between 2 and 99 so far.

Is it an even number?

(My guess is 76)

Greenglassteacup · 20/11/2019 19:54

And POoof! The OP has disappeared

Inebriati · 20/11/2019 19:54

What Cauliflowerhead said with bells on.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 20/11/2019 19:54

Toilets, back of a club, a group of mates have gone home together, in the cinema, the list is endless

Sorry, that just sounds grim. You have sex with strangers in toilets and the cinema and round the back of clubs?

ffswhatnext · 20/11/2019 19:54

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras
I posted after realising the mistake 🤣 meant partners.

Oh come off it. If a 16 year old is doing that with 10s of men then that is not being in control / exploring her sexuality. That’s incredibly sad.

ffswhatnext · 20/11/2019 19:57

I mentioned those places in relation to how you ensure safety. Just a few of the examples of where people fuck in general.

Ponoka7 · 20/11/2019 19:57

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras, I supposed 16-19 year olds aren't thinking about Herpes etc. It would be mates of mates etc.

In my 30's, it would be a case of introduction. My fuck buddies knew my type. I personally wouldn't do online stuff.

BrendasUmbrella · 20/11/2019 19:58

And your DP had also shared his "number" which was just two less than you?

Yes he was absolutely being misogynistic. Ask him what made his son's self worth so low. Hopefully he will realize he was wrong to judge you.

Patroclus · 20/11/2019 19:58

Sex people klaxon

TriangularRatbag · 20/11/2019 19:58

I had a wild old time when I was younger, so I may be able to help (I'm certainly into the three-figure bracket).

What about diseases - scabies or herpes etc? Things that aren't preventable by wearing condoms?

I found them quite difficult to catch. In all of that I had gonorrhea and syphilis once each. In an era of antibiotics they are frankly less trouble than a cold.

Even if he's a mutual acquaintance you don't really know that he's not into something weird do you?

Presumably you say "no".

Oakmaiden · 20/11/2019 20:01

Definitely misogynistic if your partner is the same age as you and has a similar number.

But, as for the former... I guess it depends on what the number is. I think an extremely high number of partners would be indicative of low self worth - for example, I can't for a moment imagine meeting someone different I wanted to have sex with every weekend for 4 years, and not wanting to have a longer term relationship with any of them at all. So if you had had sex with (quick maths...) 208 people he would have, in my opinion, a definite point. Whereas having a different partner every 6 months or so would strike me as being very "ordinary" - so that would potentially be 16... Obviously there is a sliding scale between those numbers...

That said, as a parent of a 16 year old I would be concerned if my daughter started having numerous sexual relationships because she isn't very emotionally mature, and I could easily imagine it might become a way of feeling "popular" and would ultimately lead her to more psychological damage, rather than being a mature and measured decision to do something because she actively wanted to.

As for your boyfriend's father - ignore.

JoObrien7 · 20/11/2019 20:01

Women will always be judged by the number of sexual partners they have whereas men can sleep with as many women as they like and it is classed as ok.

ffswhatnext · 20/11/2019 20:01

No-one is saying a 16-year-old is doing it in those locations. Just a couple of places outside the traditional bed. I'm not even sure why a pp brought 16-year-olds into this considering the op is older.

And the 16-year-olds might have no option to do it in other places because not under my roof.

ladymalfoy45 · 20/11/2019 20:02

I don’t think you’re 20. You’re older than you’re claiming.

TSSDNCOP · 20/11/2019 20:02

This is a conversation that’s another thing that falls under the Just Because You Can Doesn’t Mean You Should heading.

Greenglassteacup · 20/11/2019 20:03

Nah. This is bollocks.

MLMsuperfan · 20/11/2019 20:03

I used to go to a club called the Dirtbox. It had a fuck room.

I'm going to work that in to Christmas dinner conversation at the in laws, OP-style.

I'll also be asking Granny what her "number" is.

I'll report back.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 20/11/2019 20:04

Well the op is 19 so I suppose people are saying between 16 and 19. Could all be in a year I suppose, or a week. Who knows.

Still think it's grim that people are shagging in toilets and the cinema.
