To think Kate Middleton should be allowed to wear nail polish?

I was browsing through an old Vanity Fair from 2017 at hairdressers today and read a piece on the RF. Apparently the Queen thinks coloured nail polish is 'vulgar and does not meet Royal Standards'! So I guess that doesn't just apply to herself as Kate looked great as usual at the Royal Variety Show last night apart from her hands! I think a splash of nail colour would have been nice! Nothing garish or anything but it would have completed her outfit. What do you think?

Yes, I agree. If she likes it, she should be able to wear it (assuming she currently doesn't because she's been instructed not to) . Funnily enough, I also thought a bit of nail polish would look nice when I saw the pictures.

I can’t wear nail polish due to my job and I love a chance to wear it. I wore it every day of mat leave and I do miss it a bit.

I certainly wouldn’t let my husband’s grandma tell me what I could and couldn’t wear. I hope to see her in what one of my patients described as “coffin nails” soon, purely for the outcry from middle England.

I dare say she wears it when she's not "on royal duties"....

She doesn’t have a surname at all...she’s HRH Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge...if we’re going to be pedantic.

I bet she wears pink sparkly toe nail polish though, if she’s really not allowed to wear finger nail polish.

I think the Queen is right. I dislike nail polish, and do see the point of it, especially when women have those really long pointed fake nails. I know other people like them and that's fine but I just think they look ridiculous.

I actually think though I think Kate makes her own mind up and it's not seen to be nice in her circles.

Yeah there are quite a few pictures of her wearing red polish on her toes when she wears sandals.

Do you refer to all married women who have taken their husbands name by their maiden names op?

I don't know how true that story is and anyway it may only be an opinion, the Queen cannot dictate what make up her family use.

The thing will nail varnish is that you have to keep it up; take it off and replenish regularly, when it's chipped it's awful. I used to wear it when I was at work and when going out, colour co-ordinated with whatever I wore. My nails weren't all that good and polish disguised that. Used to keep it in the fridge (someone told me that was the best way to store it). I don't now, haven't bothered for ages but might if I go out somewhere special.

I thought Kate wears the same nail polish as the Queen? (Essie's Ballet Slippers) Looks natural but polished.

I imagine she's got better things to think about being future Queen and mother to 3 children and all that.

I would think that the Queen is very much wishing that her grandson’s wife’s nails were the only thing she had to fret about this week.

Colour is great for toes but can look a bit tacky on hands, especially if you chip it when you're out.

@Bluntness100 and @DobbyTheHouseElk what century are you living in?! A lot of married women (if not most) these days continue to use their 'own' name. They don't 'take' their husbands name! Often it's for simplicity purposes such as having to change passports, work ID, driving licences etc. Some women also feel very strongly about 'keeping' their maiden name and individuality.

I'd say the Queen is past caring about nude shoes and nail polish.

That was her name, once, it isn't now and hasn't been in years

Anyway, wearing nail varnish on my fingernails makes me feel funny and so I don't wear it. Nothing to do with work or someone telling me that I can't.

Royal duchesses don't have surnames, the first name is enough. Ditto queens and princesses. Monarchs are first name + R (either Regina or Rex).

If you're a peer (male), you only sign your surname eg Marlborough, Devonshire, etc. Peeresses get both, eg Sarah Marlborough, Deborah Devonshire. They're normal duchesses, not HRH.

I think for once in my life a agree with the queen! Nicely shaped clean nails look much nicer than painted ones.
