To think Kate Middleton should be allowed to wear nail polish?

I was browsing through an old Vanity Fair from 2017 at hairdressers today and read a piece on the RF. Apparently the Queen thinks coloured nail polish is 'vulgar and does not meet Royal Standards'! So I guess that doesn't just apply to herself as Kate looked great as usual at the Royal Variety Show last night apart from her hands! I think a splash of nail colour would have been nice! Nothing garish or anything but it would have completed her outfit. What do you think?

Slow news day but I remember wondering why she wasn’t Wales as that’s what William and Harry used at school.

Probably because they were registered at school under their parent/s’ “surname”. Now William has a senior title in his own right he uses that as his surname. When the Queen dies and they all move up a place he may revert to Wales as he’ll become the Prince of Wales at that point.

When Meghan joined the family she was not supposed to go out in public with bare legs. Nude tights at all times. She has been seen without though and it made the news. Big deal. Daughter in law disobeys mother in law and risks being ticked off and disapproved of by whoever makes up the rules.

They can all bog off. Can't stand any of them these days which is a shame because I used to admire the Queen at least.

Freddiefox
I think kate Cambridge is her name.
Not to be pedantic but I think it Katherine Cambridge

Not to be even more pedantic, but I think it's Catherine Cambridge.

alexdgr8 · 20/11/2019 00:01

what is said to be the Queen's view is what I grew up with, not a problem for me as I've not wanted to have coloured nails.
no one told me it was infra dig, it just seemed so. must have imbibed the prevailing attitude I guess. I happen to agree with it, except for theatricals, but I recognise other people have other ideas, so I don't look down on them. its a bit difficult to explain. I think it's probably generational. no offence to anyone.
everyone is to be respected, unless there is clear reason to avoid them; then best to just walk away.
as you say, I bet the queen wishes some of her family had just walked away....

CSIblonde · 20/11/2019 00:09

I read that re nail polish (& wedge heels are banned too apparently) . It's hysterical they concentrate on antiquated, archaic minutiae like that, when they lurch from one PR disaster to the next.

She’s been married a while now. I think kate Cambridge is her name.

Oh ffs. I'd bet you'd bow and scrape to her as a more superior being also? What nonsense.

egontoste · 20/11/2019 00:25

I'm really finding this difficult to.... oh, it's really hard and I... aaarghh, so tricky this... but...

Nope. I can't bring myself to care one jot.

Butterymuffin · 20/11/2019 00:34

Bit rich that hanging out with paedophiles is fine, but wearing nail polish isn't. Priorities!

Barney60 · 20/11/2019 00:40

the queen advises a clear or pale pink nail polish personally I hate to see garish bright nails, especially on old hands, but it takes all sorts.

sniffsneeze · 20/11/2019 02:46

Ooh I was wondering about this as I noticed Olivia Colman had nail varnish on in the latest episodes of the Crown

nachthexe · 20/11/2019 03:05

I’m with alexdgr. And my own dear mother in her 70s still possesses the most gruesome set of natural but long and curly talons in invariably unmissable colours. They traumatize my children. Just no.
I do a bit of toenail colour in sandal weather. Fingers? Hell to the no. It’s a bit common.

BlackCatSleeping · 20/11/2019 03:20

I did read somewhere that none of her friends or family call her Kate, just the press. Everyone calls her Catherine. I have no idea if it’s true or not though.

I have no strong feelings on the color of her nails.

RightYesButNo · 20/11/2019 03:38

This is truly a great “would you rather.”
Would you rather: never have to worry about money ever again OR be able to wear obvious nail varnish? Grin

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/11/2019 03:56

Marnie76 · 20/11/2019 06:44

What are you on about happysummer2020. She was stating that her name had changed (as many do and some don’t) when she got married 🤨.

Although what that name has changed to seems to be any and everyone’s guess.

EdithWeston · 20/11/2019 06:55

"Apparently the Queen thinks coloured nail polish is 'vulgar and does not meet Royal Standards'!"

This is bollocks.

The Queen wears nail varnish Essie Ballet Slippers being the known favourite.

If the Duchess doesn't wear it, perhaps it's because she loses not to. Just like the Queen chooses that she does.

(Or is this just another invented non story about one or other of the Duchesses?)

burritofan · 20/11/2019 07:05

People on MN get hilariously protective of K-Middy's name. You all know who is meant when a thread title says Kate Middleton; ditto Meghan Markle. Saying "Catherine Cambridge" or "Rachel Sussex" just makes you sound like an arse. Kate Middleton is her "famous" name; she'll be that til she and ideally all royals, vive la republic is dead.

On the nail varnish front, she could wear it if she wanted to I expect. But she's bought into how The Firm does things.

StealthPolarBear · 20/11/2019 07:06

If we're being pedantic they don't have a mother in law. A step mother in law and a grandmother in law!

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 20/11/2019 08:02

It’s a bit common.

Yes, your ladyship. Sorry, your ladyship. Do let us know when you want to join us in the 21st century, your ladyship.

Perhaps in 1962

ItsAPleasureSwingYouFuckNut · 20/11/2019 10:12

What a thought provoking thread about nails and surnames. Riveting.

BertrandRussell · 20/11/2019 10:13

I will always use a woman’s name of origin unless I know that she has changed it or unless she have taken on a title. So Duchess of Cambridge or Duchess of Sussex. Or Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle.

Mummy195 · 20/11/2019 10:22

Kate will always conform, no matter what. Never upset anyone , even for a minor thing like nail polish. She is so close to the ultimate crown, she will not jeopardise it in any slight way.

Housewife2010 · 20/11/2019 10:36

In their engagement interview William referred to her as "Kate".
