To think Kate Middleton should be allowed to wear nail polish?

I was browsing through an old Vanity Fair from 2017 at hairdressers today and read a piece on the RF. Apparently the Queen thinks coloured nail polish is 'vulgar and does not meet Royal Standards'! So I guess that doesn't just apply to herself as Kate looked great as usual at the Royal Variety Show last night apart from her hands! I think a splash of nail colour would have been nice! Nothing garish or anything but it would have completed her outfit. What do you think?

Isn't Williams surname Windsor not Cambridge? Did Kate announce she was changing her name?

@BanjoStarz not to be pedantic but actually she is HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, not Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

NegroniOnIce · 19/11/2019 22:26

Not to be pedantic but I think it Katherine Cambridge

Catherine. With a C.

twinkledag · 19/11/2019 22:27

@Freddiefox - Catherine Cambridge, not with a K.
😃

Supersimkin2 · 19/11/2019 22:27

Royals have loads of names and titles each. It's a pedant's paradise.

twinkledag · 19/11/2019 22:28

@Butterfly98 his real surname is Mountbatten-Windsor.

VanyaHargreeves · 19/11/2019 22:28

Only technically are they Mountbatten-Windsor. There was controversy over it at the time the Queen ascended, what heirs would be called

Thus at school, they went by title

Harry and William used Wales as their school surname
Beatrice and Eugenie used York
George and Charlotte currently use Cambridge - this is known because George Cambridge was seen written on his bookbag.

Freddiefox · 19/11/2019 22:29

Ha ha maybe it should be Cate then.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 19/11/2019 22:29

Talking of nails, when they squeal down blackboards they have the same effect as the term 'maiden name' has on me.

It's repulsive. And in 2019, it's also faintly ridiculous.

astralweaks · 19/11/2019 22:32

DobbyTheHouseElk

She’s been married a while now. I think kate Cambridge is her name.

Think it’s mainly The Fail that refers to her in that way.

dudsville · 19/11/2019 22:32

I just googled for the pics. What my attention was drawn to was the teeny tiny clutch. What purpose would that serve?

ssd · 19/11/2019 22:34

Fuck sake the queen doesn't like nail varnish but she welcomes Andrews pals to the Palace???

Aye right

AppropriateAdult · 19/11/2019 22:35

I’d be really surprised if the Queen laid down edicts about nail polish for the younger members of her family.
There have been loads of similar stories about dress items the Queen apparently objects to - bare legs, strapless dresses, wedge heels, wearing black - all of which have been quickly disproven. Vanity Fair does not have a hotline to Buckingham Palace, shockingly.

astralweaks · 19/11/2019 22:37

Not Katherine; Catherine.

LellyMcKelly · 19/11/2019 22:37

I have never given a single seconds thought to nail polish, on mine or anyone else’s nails.

BennyTheBall · 19/11/2019 22:38

Camilla is either Camilla Parker-Bowles or just Camilla. That’s what has stuck.

Kate is stuck with Kate Middleton. In RL, no one except for the court circular or odd sycophant reporter calls her the Duchess of Cambridge and I always think it most odd when posters on here call her Catherine. Weirdly obsequious when she’s known worldwide as Kate. They might like the formality of it in the Royal family, but they all call her Kate in private. (My friend has dealings with William and Charles through work)

Anyway if the queen is telling her not to wear nail polish, they’re even more bloody ridiculous than I thought.

MatildaTheCat · 19/11/2019 22:38

I’m utterly invested in royal manicures. Kate has the most difficult of requirements: an immaculate manicured look which appears completely natural, yet better than natural.

I wish she’d relax a little and jazz herself up a bit but she’s finding it hard. Perhaps in her late middle age she will rebel and flash a scarlet set of nails. She should, however, be warned- older hands really do best suit nude and natural tones. Kate, go for it and style some colours. Just not chipped Grin

VanGoghsDog · 19/11/2019 22:49

FFS, what shite!

Dongdingdong · 19/11/2019 22:53

I find it odd too. It sounds really forced when William calls her Catherine, when she’s clearly known as Kate by him and everyone else in private. Why do the RF have to call her something that they never usually would? No matter how hard they try, “Catherine” will never stick with the public anyway, so they might as well just call her Kate.

tararabumdeay · 19/11/2019 23:05

WTF is the point of nail varnish or false nails? It's a throwback to hopeless and decorative.

Motherontheedge1 · 19/11/2019 23:09

If she wants to now is the time to go for it. The queen has more important matters to worry about I think.

Likethebattle · 19/11/2019 23:10

@Butterfly98 she did change her name as the paper picked up a story where she ordered something and gave her name as ‘Mrs Cambridge’. The nan taking the order didn’t recognise her and remarked it was any unusual babe (which I don’t think it is). Slow news day but I remember wondering why she wasn’t Wales as that’s what William and Harry used at school.

Likethebattle · 19/11/2019 23:10

*unusual name

LaurieMarlow · 19/11/2019 23:11

I think Kate makes her own mind up and it's not seen to be nice in her circles.

Grin what total bollocks

OP, I agree it’s ridiculous that the Queens outdated ideas about what’s ‘naice’ have to be applied by Kate. I’d like to see her (and Meghan) stage a varnish rebellion.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 19/11/2019 23:15

The Queen wears nail varnish herself.
She favours a single coat of the shade ‘Ballet Slippers’ by Essie.
