And don’t I bloody regret it. Currently trying to make the inner glass clear again whist I wait for the cleaning stuff to work on the inside.

Haven’t cleaned the oven once since we moved in May. How often do you normally clean your oven?

Always seems like such a big job.

Genuinely shocked at how many people don't clean their ovens Shock

I do mine every 3-4 months with ovenpride (with industrial rubber gloves ha) and spray the door and clean after every use - takes seconds! I would ashamed if it was manky and greasy. Line the bottom with a removable foil cover so if any drips a quick wipe in hot soapy water and like new again Grin

ChikiTIKI · 16/11/2019 19:24

I don't make time enough to clean a lot of the stuff people can easily see in my house, let alone hidden away stuff like inside the oven.

When turning on the oven lets off a strong smoke smell, we clean it.

doublebarrellednurse · 16/11/2019 19:34

Moved in in April

Put a plastic sheet in the bottom, clean that every other week.

Cleaned the whole thing 2 weeks ago with Koh and it was easy, will set a reminder to do it more often now.

It's something I think about doing then think nah! another time. It's a dark place of mystery

handbagsatdawn33 · 16/11/2019 19:37

7 years - i.e. from new.

Elle7rose · 16/11/2019 19:57

I have OCD with a germ obsession but even I'm not too bothered about the Oven as it's on 200c everyday so provided the baking trays are clean I think it's ok.

Fridge hygiene is much more important.

ILearnedItFromABook · 16/11/2019 19:57

Ours is self-cleaning, but I don't know when I last used that feature... Maybe one day soon, on a good day for opening the windows, in case it smells smoky during or after.

Our oven doesn't really get that dirty, but I can't imagine it would be a health hazard even if we did have more spills. The oven gets hot enough to cook our food (and kill most germs in the process), so surely any other germs in the oven will be killed, too. I save my kitchen anxiety for keeping the counter top clean and avoiding cross-contamination via knives, cutting boards, etc.

VoyageInTheDark · 16/11/2019 19:58

@Alsohuman that's reassuring!

theSnuffster · 16/11/2019 19:59

We've had ours for nearly 11 years, I reckon it's probably been cleaned about 4 times?! Getting a new one soon and it's self cleaning.

AfterSchoolWorry · 16/11/2019 20:01

Waste of time!

The chemicals don't come off properly and then the smell permeates the food you cook. Vile!

Pinkblueberry · 16/11/2019 20:07

Once a year maybe? It’s constantly hot, anything ‘unclean’ in there is burnt to a crisp - i.e. most of the germs are dead and besides I wasn’t planning on licking it, I just put my food in there to cook. It’s not going to hurt you, life’s too short.

hazell42 · 16/11/2019 20:11

Dirty ovens are a fire risk.
Grease settles on the bottom and will catch fire.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 16/11/2019 20:16

Well my Pyrolytic oven has cleaned itself beautifully this afternoon!

All I then did was wipe out a bit of grey ash. Brilliant!!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 16/11/2019 20:38

This is my favourite ever thread, I feel so normal for once. Now let's discuss skirting boards Blush.

Solihooley · 16/11/2019 20:40

We’ve done ours once in 6 years.

stucknoue · 16/11/2019 20:46

Maybe once a year, I line with foil and change monthly

stucknoue · 16/11/2019 20:48

Ps what companies do you use to get them cleaned, I paid £120 last time, I did it myself since. It's a range though

kissmelittleass · 16/11/2019 20:57

Bloody hard work and so much effort! I recently got a new fitted cooker so I wipe down the hob every day and the glass and inside every week or two but it's already driving me nuts trying to get stubborn marks off and I can see myself giving up!!
How do you clean the wire racks/shelves that's what I want to know?!

FunOnTheBeach20 · 16/11/2019 21:02

Are you kidding? I’ve been in this house 14 months and the oven was only ever clean when new...

I move quite frequently and only clean for incoming tenants...

Crunchymum · 16/11/2019 21:02

Mine is 6 years old and I cant recall cleaning it. I think DP did that supermarket 'oven clean in a bag thing' when I was away a few years ago?

We need a new cooker so I'm certainly not going to hurry to clean my oven!!!

FunOnTheBeach20 · 16/11/2019 21:02

Clean the oven that is, the rest of the house is cleaned!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/11/2019 21:19

These threads always end up with competitive dirtyness, since when was being a minger a badge of honour?.

Pardonwhat · 16/11/2019 21:25

My ovens about 5 years old and I haven’t cleaned it once.

I’ve thought about it though Smile

Pardonwhat · 16/11/2019 21:28

Fluffycloudland77

How is answering the question ‘competitive’?
And how is something that regularly reaches 200 degrees (and kills germs) thus pretty much self cleaning a sign of a ‘minger’? Hmm

Just because answers don’t suit you doesn’t make them wrong

exWifebeginsAgainat46 · 16/11/2019 21:33

i have diagnosed OCD and once cleaned the oven for 5 days straight. dishwasher tab on the inside of the door glass works like magic. just dip it in water and rub. you’re welcome.
