To have not cleaned my oven once in 6 months.

And don’t I bloody regret it. Currently trying to make the inner glass clear again whist I wait for the cleaning stuff to work on the inside.

Haven’t cleaned the oven once since we moved in May. How often do you normally clean your oven?

Always seems like such a big job.

Never.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 16/11/2019 14:28

I'm doing mine at this very moment!

Well, I treated myself to a Pyrolytic oven and it's currently cleaning itself Grin

TheHootiestOwl · 16/11/2019 14:30

4 years here.

Ditto22 · 16/11/2019 14:31

The chemicals in oven cleaners are probably more harmful than an unclean oven!

Seeingadistance · 16/11/2019 14:31

I never clean my oven.

Helmlover1 · 16/11/2019 14:32

Rarely/never.

We’re all still alive so meh.

DankGraveGhouls · 16/11/2019 14:34

My dad is an oven cleaner, he cleans my oven in exchange for us hosting Xmas dinner. Works for us!

namechangetheworld · 16/11/2019 14:36

Maybe once a year. If that.
This thread is incredibly reassuring Grin

Rachelsfatarse · 16/11/2019 14:39

You're meant to clean inside ovens?

BertieBotts · 16/11/2019 14:40

Once every few years.

The pyroletic ones scare me. I also read that they fuck with the thermostat system.

BrokenWing · 16/11/2019 14:43

I bought cleaning stuff for the glass 2 weeks ago, but really can't face doing it yet. Is probably 2, more likely 3 years since last done.

The bottom but has a removable liner, the sides are self cleaning, so it's only the glass that needs done.

sewinginscotland · 16/11/2019 14:43

Haha, I couldn't see the last part of the title when I clicked on it and I thought it would be 6 years. 6 months is nothing.

Mine was probably done 6 months ago or so. I think the glass on mine could do with a clean, but there's nothing in the bottom because I always leave the grill pan in there.

Ribbityrib · 16/11/2019 14:45

Bought oven 8 years ago. Rub the door down occasionally but that's about it Blush

KTCluck · 16/11/2019 14:46

Once in around 4 years. Until I bought some of that Koh cleaner a few months ago, and now I do it every few weeks because it takes minutes and it’s magical.

In my old house I cleaned it maybe twice in 9 years. I’ve yet to die from eating something cooked in a grubby oven. Pretty sure the high temperature sorts out any bugs, and I’m not in the habit of placing the food directly onto the bottom.

ToothlessIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/11/2019 14:48

I did mine last week. First time in about 2 years though wasn't that bad, just the glass mainly. I unscrewed it and took the glass out which makes it much easier. Used pink stuff cleaner, screwed up tin foil and washing up liquid - worked really well!

Toddlerteaplease · 16/11/2019 14:52

I have never ever cleaned mine. What's the point. The baking tray the food is on is clean!

Toddlerteaplease · 16/11/2019 14:52

I moved in 10
Years ago.

underthebridgedowntown · 16/11/2019 14:56

I love this thread Grin

(On another note, why is there not an emoji to indicate being a slattern? Required @MNHQ)

underthebridgedowntown · 16/11/2019 14:56

Oh and - 5 years.

Cornettoninja · 16/11/2019 14:57

I think ovens start to smell when they’re hot and that’s the point I’ll give it a go.

Top tip though - you can clean the glass with a dishwasher tablet. Just wet it a bit and scrub directly on the glass. I’d do the whole oven like that but the tablets will crumble too much for the whole thing.

I like that idea! Grin what could they use?

NorthernSpirit · 16/11/2019 15:01

I wipe up spills myself and get ‘Oven Clean’ in every 6 months to do a deep clean.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/11/2019 15:02

We spent years ignoring our oven until a MN thread recommended....Ovenpride.

Well fuck me. It was like a brand new oven (all you do it paint it on, leave it and wash it off). It is amazing. Sparkling, clean, shiny - honestly, we were Shock

Our oven is always clean now, DH would use the ovenpride every week if he could Grin

MyNewBearTotoro · 16/11/2019 15:21

I haven’t ever cleaned mine in the two years we’ve lived here - never cleaned an oven anywhere else I’ve lived either.

BrokenWing · 16/11/2019 15:22

Top tip though - you can clean the glass with a dishwasher tablet.

I tried that and it was like trying to clean it with the corner of a tiny brick, the tablet barely softened at all (finish powerball). I now use a scourer and lots of elbow grease.

Ovenpride is brilliant for the grills and the bottom of the oven if you don't use a liner, but you shouldn't use on the tempered glass (this warning is on the packet) as it can cause chemical damage to the glass which can cause it to spontaneously shatter later. Lots will say they used it and have had no problems, but it is a risk and hot tempered glass exploding is not pleasant!
