And don’t I bloody regret it. Currently trying to make the inner glass clear again whist I wait for the cleaning stuff to work on the inside.

Haven’t cleaned the oven once since we moved in May. How often do you normally clean your oven?

Always seems like such a big job.

I wipe it over once a week and clear up any spills as they happen

I don’t like oven pride type stuff so I just find keeping it clean is easier!

Kenworthington · 16/11/2019 18:06

I get mine cleaned once a year by someoven cleanjng bloke. Just before Xmas

Topseyt · 16/11/2019 18:06

Cleaning ovens is something I pay someone else about £50 or £60 to do.

I don't do much meat in it and I do have a large oven liner across the bottom which comes out for a soak sometimes, so it stays fairly clean anyway.

YouJustDoYou · 16/11/2019 18:06

Erm...I've never cleaned an oven.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 16/11/2019 18:08

Never cleaned mine 🤷‍♀️ Can’t remember how many months I’ve had it tho

LadyB49 · 16/11/2019 18:14

Last Oven used Oven pride every 4 months.
But got a new oven recently and it came with a free deep clean every year for five years :)

EndoplasmicReticulum · 16/11/2019 18:20

We got someone to come and clean ours when it got really bad. He did a fantastic job and it didn't seem that expensive. Mother-in-law was so impressed she got him to come and clean hers too - but nobody is allowed to tell Grandma-in-law of such decadence as paying someone to clean your oven when you should be cleaning it yourself, as she might well explode with indignation at such a thing.

Rose789 · 16/11/2019 18:29

I wipe it every time I change the sponge for washing up so every week or so. Clean it properly every 3 months or so.

clucky3 · 16/11/2019 18:30

Every couple of years here

TurquoiseDress · 16/11/2019 18:33

We moved into our (rented) place in summer 2017- we have never cleaned it and I've no idea when the previous tenants cleaned either!

Think we are going to treat ourselves to a deep clean for Christmas Grin

PookieDo · 16/11/2019 18:41

The elbow grease spray really is good

I also really like fairy spray

Alsohuman · 16/11/2019 18:43

Can’t remember the last time. Life’s too short.

GaaaaarlicBread · 16/11/2019 18:43

Never cleaned ours 😂😂😂

EsselGruntFuttock · 16/11/2019 18:47

Why are people saying they wouldn’t cook in a dirty oven? You know the inside of an oven is sterile right? Nothing could survive those temperatures.

I wouldn’t cook in a dirty pot, oven tray nor on a dirty hob - personal choice I suppose.

VoyageInTheDark · 16/11/2019 18:48

Never cleaned ours. Been here 5 years. I want to get someone in to do it but fear they would judge me BlushGrin

They wouldn’t. The guy who did mine about four years ago said he’d seen far worse. I thought it was a disgrace.

YouFellAsleeep · 16/11/2019 19:00

Genuine question, how do people get away with not cleaning the oven for years? Mine would get smokey sometimes which I assume is crumbs at the bottom of the oven and the glass on the door gets all horrible.

Although I did just get a new cooker so I’m very good at keeping it clean and shiny!

Celebelly · 16/11/2019 19:02

We get a manny in to do it it every year. Can't be arsed with it myself.

Celebelly · 16/11/2019 19:05

Also I refuse to have that bloody awful Oven Pride stuff in the house. My oven man does it without fumes and caustic chemicals that will burn the top layer of your skin off. A friend of mine accidentally got splashed by some Oven Pride at work recently and even though they went straight to rinse it, they got a horrible burn and had to go to A&E where they were told to shower every hour for 24 hours as that stuff just keeps burning. No way I'm having that anywhere near DD or DDog!

enjoyingscience · 16/11/2019 19:06

Never here either. I have a good go at the glass every few months, but the inside gets a wipe on high days and holidays.

Lincslady53 · 16/11/2019 19:06

I clean ours every week. Doesn't take long and the grease doesn't build up and get burnt on.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 16/11/2019 19:06

We have a sparkly new oven installed today. It is a thing of beauty and I am determined to keep it shiny. I’m also really glad not to have to have had to clean the old one. Though there was lots of gunk underneath when the electrician took the old one out, he asked me if I wanted to give it a quick clean or just hide it. Grin

PookieDo · 16/11/2019 19:07

I don’t really like cooking with a dirty oven because I just value things I have worked hard to buy. I clear my hoover out all the time too. I clean things and keep them working 😂

Bunnyfuller · 16/11/2019 19:12

Oooh first ever thread where I haven’t been on the low end of the ‘relaxed’ cleaning.

About every 2/3 months. I have an oven liner on the bottom and frankly have no clue how to get the crap off the sides properly. I take all the shelves etc out.

HATE the job. So much work for very little return.

BMW6 · 16/11/2019 19:14

Every 3 or 4 months I spray the inside with Aldi kitchen cleaner while oven still warm, leave overnight.
Racks are taken out and put to soak in a big tray (Lakeland) with a squirt of bio detergent in the water.
Next day I get my steam cleaner, put a few drops of white vinegar and lemon in the reservoir with the water and steam from top to bottom.

I use a sponge and kitchen roll to mop up the bottom of the oven and wipe the sides. If racks still have bits on I scrub off with old toothbrush.

Racks back in, oven on highest temp for 10 minutes or so to burn off any chemicals.

Job done.
