To think Die Hard is NOT a Christmas film?

Just that, really. It’ s not a Christmas film. Just because it’s set at Christmas does not not make it so.
My husband disagrees with me , counter arguing that in that case, It’s A Wonderful Life isn’t a Christmas film( it most certainly is)!

It's a film that's not just for Xmas.......

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/11/2019 19:32

I should have RTFT but I love that meme too much not to post it. :o

@isspacethefinalfrontier You are amazing. I had no idea that existed and have just bought it for DH.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 16/11/2019 19:37

All of it happens at Xmas time not some of it. Love Actually, Home Alone could happen at any time of year. The Snowman could happen any time from November to March in UK. All classed as Xmas films. Ni different to Die Hard.

ThePolishWombat · 16/11/2019 19:39

@GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou that meme is 100% correct.
We watch Die Hard most Christmas Eves Grin

chomalungma · 16/11/2019 19:42

The Snowman could happen any time from November to March in UK

But that has Father Christmas in

Love Actually, Home Alone could happen at any time of year

Don't those films have some kind of Christmas message though?

What's the Christmas message in Die Hard?

echt · 16/11/2019 19:45

Of course "Die Hard" is a Christmas film, as is "The Great Escape". My late DH and I used to mutter "can't see a bloody thing" from this.

Now "Towering Inferno" used to be staple Christmas entertainment, but disappeared after 9/11.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/11/2019 19:45

The message is simply, "Skip the Christmas party this year".

Or,

Yippee ki ay, mother-fucker.

Means the same thing really.

chomalungma · 16/11/2019 19:46

The message is simply, "Skip the Christmas party this year

Grin

It's not as heartwarming as the end of Home Alone

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/11/2019 19:56

I found Holly punching that asshat Thornburg for interviewing her kids incredibly heartwarming.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/11/2019 19:59

Grin I wasn't being serious, goady banter on a light hearted thread...

How much more romance do.you need than to take on a bunch of terrorists single handed to save your wife?

You got me there!

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe CatherineofArrogant

Love it!Grin

@ThePolishWombat I'd have a chest like that in my stocking any day...

Romance aside, none of this convinces me that Die hard is a xmas movie!

ShatnersWig · 16/11/2019 20:03

I watch It's A Wonderful Life every Xmas Eve and I still she'd a few years at the end. I'm a 45-year old man, FFS.

Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Gremlins and Trading Places are also always watched over the festive period along with "genuine" Christmas films Muppet Christmas Carol and Scrooged.

satanstoenailsandwich · 16/11/2019 20:07

Bridget Jones seems to be considered a Christmas film now even though only about 5 minutes of it happened at Christmas which was inevitable given that it's a diary lasting a year.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 16/11/2019 20:11

To those saying that Die Hard is THE Christmas movie, YABExtremelyU.

Bernard And The Genie is THE Christmas movie.

zsazsajuju · 16/11/2019 20:12

It’s definitely a Xmas film

Mamabear88 · 16/11/2019 20:16

I'm siding with you. It is absolutely not a Christmas film. There's nothing Christmassy about it. A Wonderful Life on the other hand most definitely is!

FadingStar · 16/11/2019 20:20

It's A Wonderful Life is so depressing and slow..hate the story of the uncle losing the money to the evil developer.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 16/11/2019 20:23

Die Hard has exactly the same message as Home Alone, family separated trying to get back together for Xmas, defeat some bad guys and bingo family reunited.

chomalungma · 16/11/2019 20:23

hate the story of the uncle losing the money to the evil developer

There did need to be some kind of 'closure' about the developer who had taken the money.

It's great to see the community pull together and that's a good message.

GonnaBeMaayy · 16/11/2019 20:24

“Come our to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs”

I consider Little Women a Christmas movie too.

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 16/11/2019 20:26

Imagine being this wrong about something.

FadingStar · 16/11/2019 20:31

Yes @chomalungma he just got away with it scot free and was even wished a happy Christmas after driving poor George to almost completing suicide! Didn't like that.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/11/2019 20:34

I watch Little Women every year whilst wrapping presents.

It's a lovely Christmas film.

Willow2017 · 16/11/2019 20:51

Just because some of it happens at Christmas time, it does NOT make it a Christmas movie FFS!!

Err it all happens on Xmas eve!

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/11/2019 21:08

Little women is beautiful.

But it's not a Xmas movie either!

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 16/11/2019 21:13

'Tis.
