To think we did nothing wrong?

I went away for the weekend with a guy I'm seeing and a friend and her boyfriend.
My friend was driving and me and the guy I'm seeing in the back.
It's a pretty new thing and we were chatting all the way home in the car.
She kept say ..can you both shut up talking your doing my head in.
We kept quite for a bit and then sometimes forgot and spoke again.
She was really annoyed
Did we really do anything wrong here?
She is actually angry that we didn't sit in silence

How odd.
Does she get very car sick or something?

Icecreamsoda99 · 12/11/2019 20:03

How long was the drive? Perhaps she felt excluded from the conversation and that she was being treated like the chauffeur (not saying you were bit I can understand how she could feel that). Perhaps she was tired after a long weekend of driving others about and feeling miffed that she couldn't just relax and chat and wanted some peace and quiet.

sadaboutlife · 12/11/2019 20:04

It was a 3 hour drive
No she doesn't get car sick or anything.

Was her boyfriend in the front with her?

Whodoyoutrust · 12/11/2019 20:08

Was her boyfriend in the front? If not then you were pretty rude. If he was then in might have been a bit too noisy for her to concentrate properly, particularly if she was tired or had a headache or there was a complicated drive, traffic, bad weather etc.

nancyjuice7 · 12/11/2019 20:11

If I had to listen to another persons conversation in my ear for three hours whilst trying to drive I'd get annoyed too. Possibly she was abit blunt about it, but generally if she's asked for a bit of peace for such a long drive, you should have obliged or offered to drive.

Heartburn888 · 12/11/2019 20:11

I think she has over reacted but we’re you involving her in the conversation or just chatting between yourselves?

user1493413286 · 12/11/2019 20:13

I don’t really understand what her issue was

PurpleDaisies · 12/11/2019 20:15

Is she a new or not confident driver? You might have been distracting her.

CalishataFolkart · 12/11/2019 20:17

What were you talking about? If your relationship is still pretty new and it was a couple of hours of “getting to know you” chat then it could have been pretty dull for anyone else.

Sushiroller · 12/11/2019 20:20

People who don't regularly drive long distances often need to concentrate So id have assumed she needed quiet to avoid an accident concentrate.

She was nice enough to drive you for 3 hours and im guessing her opening gambit wasnt "shut the fuck up". Given she "kept telling you" indicates you did it more than once and probably ignored more polite requests / kept ignoring her.

YABU.

Antigon · 12/11/2019 20:20

If her BF was in the front with her then she was being rude.

If she was alone in the front, I think you should have sat in the front too because she probably felt like the chauffeur.

Groovinpeanut · 12/11/2019 20:20

Was she trying to listen to, and follow directions on the SatNav?

She needed to concentrate. Were you talking

non stop?

Honeyroar · 12/11/2019 20:32

Do you think she felt like a taxi driver? That you were chatting away and ignoring her?

Vanhi · 12/11/2019 20:33

I expect she just wanted to concentrate on driving. I wouldn't expect silence from passengers but I do expect consideration, especially being quiet at tricky junctions etc. Can't say without being there but you may have been more irritating than you realise.

Letseatgrandma · 12/11/2019 20:36

If you two sat in the back leaving her alone in the front like a taxi driver then I’m not surprised she was pissed off.

Csleeptime · 12/11/2019 20:36

I think that's just plain rude, she didn't need to be like that

Doman · 12/11/2019 20:41

Assuming her boyfriend was in the front, did your conversation include everyone? If it was just the two of you chuntering away to each other I can see how it would be irritating (and distracting).

Bit of a rude reaction, though. She could have put it better.

Obviouspretzel · 12/11/2019 20:41

Seeing people agree that you were rude is honestly one of the weirdest things I’ve seen on here, unless you specifically excluded her from the conversation. Surely people normally converse on a drive with others in the car? Would people drive in silence with their boyfriend and friends in the car?

Itsallpetetong · 12/11/2019 20:42

She is actually angry that we didn't sit in silence

Maybe she felt you were distracting her and she feels better able to concentrate on the road when it’s quiet?

It's a pretty new thing and we were chatting all the way home in the car

I think ALL the way would be very annoying tbf.

We are not a chatty family in the car tbh but I don’t think I’ve ever told someone to shut up, maybe ‘hang on a minute’ whilst navigating junctions but then I can’t recall a time when I’ve had someone chatting non stop in the back whilst I’m trying to drive. I can only imagine it would be like sitting on a coach/train and listening to someone talking on their phone for the whole journey- which plenty of posters are annoyed about.

VardySheWrote · 12/11/2019 20:44

The DRIVER is asking you, repeatedly, to stop talking and chatting in her ears, you ignore her and you wonder if you did anything wrong?

People saying the driver was rude are taking the piss, she was obviously trying to DRIVE. Sometimes you need to concentrate.

Massive BU
you are lucky you didn't cause an accident or she didn't stop and leave you at a random train station.

thebear1 · 12/11/2019 20:44

Did you chat? Or was it flirty banter? The latter would annoy me to listen to.

nocoolnamesleft · 12/11/2019 20:45

Was there anyone in the front passenger seat? Or were you treating her like your personal chauffeur?
