...to think it's not something to be particularly proud of?

Does anybody else think that some posters seem to feel that it is a particular personal achievement to be a longstanding MN member?

There are so many threads at the moment about how shit it is now with all these thick newbies posting, and how much better it was years ago. I see post after post from OPs saying they wouldn't have got this reaction back in the good ole' days.

I've been here for a good few years (though not as long as the people making these posts, I presume), but I don't feel my opinion is worth more than somebody that signed up yesterday.

Who cares how long you've been posting on this forum, honestly? It's not that deep.

But I see posters who I usually admire for their intelligence and clarity of thought post shit like this. And I think, maybe it's gone over my head and I'm missing something?

OP posts:

@AnyFucker - that'd probably equate to a personal attack, and isnt allowed by MNHQ.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2019 19:54

No, it isn't.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2019 19:56

It's called defending yourself although will probably get me deleted for referencing a deleted post.

Which will make me look bad again. Sigh.

NormaBean · 11/11/2019 19:58

Well this is awkward Grin

AnyFucker · 11/11/2019 20:00

I'm waiting.

funinthesun19 · 11/11/2019 20:09

When people say:
“Mumsnet is so much different to what it was 15 years ago”

Did you expect it to never change/evolve and be stuck in 2004? Confused

CAG12 · 11/11/2019 20:10

Just tag the person you want to talk to

NoSauce · 11/11/2019 20:15

Years ago I posted looking for advice and had a name change fail, she advance searched me and outed me on all my other threads, ripped me to shreds and cheered on others who joined in. It was horrible

That doesn’t sound like your posting style AnyFucker, I would be surprised if that poster was insinuating it was you.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2019 20:17

Why should I tag them. They didn't tag me. I just have folk dropping mile wide "hints" when it is clear who they are talking about.

Folk should have the courage of their convictions instead of passive agressive sniping.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2019 20:19

I agree @NoSauce. The original description didn't sound like me at all. That small detail doesn't deter the snipers, however.

Antigon · 11/11/2019 20:23

@AnyFucker

The original description didn’t sound like you but @JoyceDivision followed up with the below:

I have an idea who fairylights might mean, I've pottered on MN a long time and find there is a poster who stands out by a mile for comments that can be abrupt, and stating the obvious with no value or guidance contained yet but seems to have other posters fawning over them.

I’m guessing that that is aimed at you, although @Joyce in really stretching by connecting the two posts together.

I agree with @NoSauce that it’s not your style.

BeautifulWintersMorning · 11/11/2019 20:24

This is confusing. Why do you think people are talking about you if it's not something you would do?. And how would anyone other than the person you quoted know who it was that did that to her? The post was deleted several hours ago. Did someone decide it was you and send you a screenshot? If so why did they think it was you if it's nothing like you?

MarziPam · 11/11/2019 20:25

Where has anyone 'insinuated' anything? They could be talking about anyone.

Unless the hat fits?

AnyFucker · 11/11/2019 20:27

These threads are simply used to have a go at individual posters. MN usually delete then and it's not hard to see why.

You won't catch me exhibiting such snakey behaviour, and yet I am fair game for some. It's irritating.

NoSauce · 11/11/2019 20:28

MarziPam Rtft.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2019 20:31

Some of the comments are deleted now which makes me look the tit. I don't need any extra help in that dept, tbh Smile

Those posters know who they are though.

NoSauce · 11/11/2019 20:35

Me and another poster were deleted for mentioning your name even though we were actually sticking up for you AF.

ThighThighOfthigh · 11/11/2019 20:42

I prefer MN now, for the most part, i find it kinder. Less funny, but perhaps the two go hand in hand.

AnyFucker · 11/11/2019 20:42

I know @NoSauce and thanks

Never mind. Another day, another bash MN and a few individual posters thread, another day.

I am sure we are all heartily sick of them by now and those people who can't stand the place can vote with their feet if they wish. Strangely, they stick around though.

MarziPam · 11/11/2019 20:50

'It was a clique bitchfest back in its day. You had to wait for the arrival of senior posters to see what direction the thread was heading in. Newbies were ignored unless they could be mocked. It's nicer now'
Yes more trolls nowadays as the site has grown, but the posters thinking they can talk to people like shit and get away with it seem to be in the minority.

littledrummergirl · 11/11/2019 20:57

I can't believe it's been three years since Zombie passed away. She, and woolly hugs inspired me to start crochet. Gin

I think this thread has proven its point.....brilliant!

I think this thread has proven its point.....brilliant!

What do you mean?

AnyFucker · 11/11/2019 21:37

Zombie was a lovely person. Never a bad word to say about anybody.

CharityDingle · 11/11/2019 22:17

She really was.
I didn't know her personally, but remember her posts so well. May she rest in peace .
