To ask what things you'd do, if you weren't worried about being judged...

I worry way too much about what other people (often strangers) think of me...

I am trying to work on this, but I think in reality it's probably a pretty fundamental part of my personality that I am unlikely to change.

There are probably quite a few things I would do/not do (mainly related to my children) if it wasn't for fear of being judged.

My top 3 are:

  • Let my eldest (nearly 4) watch telly on a tablet in restaurants once she's finished her food, so I can enjoy mine.
  • Potty trained later.
  • Drive my daughter the 15 minute walk home from pre-school (to avoid the 25 million mini tantrums that mean it takes us at least 30 minutes)

What are yours?

I would dance in the street. My feet are always itching when I have music on my headphones during my commute.... and sometimes I take a surreptitious turn when I think nobody is looking..... but I would love to dance properly, without worrying about people judging me or thinking I was trying to grab attention......

mindproject · 10/11/2019 19:26

I can't think of one single thing. I never worry about being judged.

I do want to sell my house and everything I own, then travel the world again, but I can't do that until DD has finished education and is independent. I won't care if people judge me as a single woman travelling the world on my own, I did it six times before people's opinions didn't bother me at all.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 10/11/2019 19:28

My friend and I used to use the "what would it look like in the daily mail headlines" as we made our child raising decisions.

We used to make them up
"middle class mother of 4 slept through school run" etc

About five years ago I realise how much I hated removing my body hair, so I stopped. To those of you thinking of doing it but holding back, I would heartily recommend going for it. My skin is so much better and I don’t have to spend ages shaving every morning (my hair grows quickly and I’d have to shave my legs every morning- twice a day sometimes, same with my underarm hair).

If no one was judging me I’d:

  1. Call in sick to work when I was having a bad mental health day, and say why (I currently say I have a migraine - which I do suffer from too, so maybe it’s just a white lie)
  2. Push in front of people at the bus stop queue so I’d get the good seat on the bus
  3. Tell people on public transport to SHUT THE FUCK UP when they’re having loud, brash, irritating conversations.
TheDarkPassenger · 10/11/2019 19:33

I had a bad experience with another ‘human’ a few years ago and obviously they went around telling everyone lies, one day I just snapped and now I’m too much on the opposite end I think!
I just do stuff now because I want to and it makes me and my family happy and I hand on heart don’t care if a stranger thinks I’m selfish/ridiculous.

I am careful not to hurt others feelings though

LeZa · 10/11/2019 19:47

Walk on walls and do cartwheels in the grass.....roll down grassy hills.....sing out loud as I'm walking along and skip every now and then! All the things children do in public that adults can't get away with doing anymore without looking like a weirdo

BraveGoldie
I was going to say dance in the street too!
And at checkouts.
And there is a big road junction close to where I live with a small raised roundabout on it.
I so want to dance on that roundabout. Grin

Sn0wBa11 · 10/11/2019 22:00

When people ask if I want children, I'd say no, instead of "maybe in the future..."

Heartburn888 · 11/11/2019 00:12

Post my honest thoughts on social media. Also get a tattoo I wanted without it being ridiculed. I did this once and ended up having it covered as everyone just took the piss.

Wear a swimsuit without cycle shorts over the top. I have horrific varicose veins on my thighs.. More lines rhaand ordnance survey map.
I've been swimming once in 8 years through paranoia despite wanting to take the kids and not just spectate leaving dh to do the fun bit.

AlunWynsKnee · 11/11/2019 00:22

Mostly I don't care. If I thought I wouldn't be judged, I would whip the 50 yards across the road in my pyjamas and a sweatshirt to see dc into school. As it is I dress myself, clean my teeth, brush my hair and walk the extra to the door.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 11/11/2019 00:57

Wear only pyjamas with no bra and on any day not wet or freezing wear sock and sandals. Fart any time the need arises. I'd also basically behave in any way that I felt like (as long as it didn't hurt someone else)

Tryingtoslim · 11/11/2019 01:40

@positivity123 don’t Spose you’re near leeda are you? I’ve seen a group do this on a Saturday morning and I’m sure they’d let you join in

Zero79me · 11/11/2019 05:50

Say what i think out loud.

CheshireChat · 11/11/2019 07:17

Not get up to take the kid to school- I'm shattered and he doesn't want to go.

Oh well, I can dream

Time40 · 12/11/2019 22:14

@WinkyisbackontheButterBeer - yes, my inflatable dolphin has a name. She's called Delphine. She makes a very good swimming float, as I can rest my chin on her tail and just paddle along .... which is very pleasant.

Awww, OnTheFence, that's so sad! Swimming is great (with or without an inflatable dolphin). No one should feel she can't swim, just because of something like that. Get in that pool right now!

I don't wear headphones, but I always want to dance in shops, if they are playing good music. Sometimes, if there's no one in the aisle, I do. Otherwise I'm the slightly weird person waiting at the checkout, just jiggling about a bit, because I can't totally contain my dancing urges. I do a lot of random spontaneous dancing about at home.

Walk on walls

Oh dear. I'm afraid I do that one.

Glovesick · 12/11/2019 22:29

KirstyHasLeft · 12/11/2019 22:35

Have an affair with a woman.
Be openly gay.

Ouchmyleg · 12/11/2019 22:36

Oh I’d definitely have some amazing loving with a woman if I could

quackyface · 12/11/2019 22:55
