OH and I were going to dtd this afternoon so I quietly said we'd better do it now, he looked puzzled so DD1 who must have overheard said 'because my friend's coming over soon'. She knows what goes on when we go to our bedroom and never comments but I'd have been mortified at that age if my parents disappeared to their bedroom for you-know-what! How do others go about it?

Did you know that knowingly subjecting children to your sex life is child abuse and if affects children into adulthood when their parents do this.

Not a chance would we do it in that sort of situation, I think that’s inappropriate. We generally wait till they are out or asleep or very occasionally when they are engrossed in a film- but we have a big house so they wouldn’t be able to hear, and creaky stairs with a stair gate at the bottom so we’d also get plenty of warning if they were coming up!

For sure my kids will know what we sneak off upstairs for. We don’t go on about it and neither do they. They aren’t traumatised because they understand that adults have sex, and that sex isn’t dirty embarrassing or shameful.

It is more challenging the older they get as they all want to stay up later than me. I miss the days you could put them to bed at 7 and then have the entire evening free

At that age they are either out all the time or glued to screens/PS/Xbox & have headphones on, only ever coming out of their room to scavenge for food. You will have no problems when the6 are teens.

As for the op. There is no need for a child/teen to know what goes on in your bedroom. Just the thought that had sex ever is repulsive enough for them.
