Does anyone have a robotic vacuum cleaner?

I would be interested to hear views from Mums netters on this. We recently visited a "stately home" which had robotic lawnmowers keeping the grass cut short.

It set me thinking that although our garden is not big enough to justify this expenditure, a robotic vacuum cleaner might be affordable.

Yes I bought OH one for his birthday as he is always hoovering (I have a dog and 3 kids, drives him mad!). It is fantastic so glad we have it, keeps the mess at bay and then he only Hoovers properly maybe once a week? Honestly cannot recommend it enough!

fluffygal · 07/11/2019 21:55

Reading that back it sounds like a crap birthday present but he was so happy with it! 😆😆

IRememberSoIDo · 07/11/2019 21:56

My parents got one and it's really great. They're both getting older and fling this on daily and it does a great job for them.

The afterschool facility my girls go to has three on the go at any one time apparently 😂

GookledyGobb · 07/11/2019 21:59

Yes and love it (him!)

EggbertHeartsTina · 07/11/2019 21:59

We have an iRobot Roomba 896. Not cheap at £400 but we had vouchers to spend and decided to invest. I love it - we have entirely open plan downstairs which needs vacuuming every day, and the iRobot can manage it all in one job.

Pros

  • vacuums entire downstairs in one job (about an hour)
  • picks up way more than you might expect
  • easy to get hang of
  • can be set off remotely if you forget

Cons

  • quite noisy
  • you have to learn what things it might get stuck on and make sure you move them out of the way before starting a job
  • expensive
Pretzelcoatl · 07/11/2019 22:01

I have a Neato from way back and it is a game changer - it has totally killed the amount of dust to deal with.

Egghead68 · 07/11/2019 22:01

Yes. I love it and my robotic floor washer.

WLmum · 07/11/2019 22:04

Yep, agree total game changer. 3 kids and 2 cats here. It does one floor most days, sometimes twice in the kitchen. Love it that I can have it running while I do other things or like this morning left it to work it's magic on the downstairs while I ran out to work. It doesn't get the corners so well, but it is fab at getting up hair - human and cat, much better than our dyson was.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/11/2019 22:05

I’ve got a basic eufy and love it.

CornedBeef451 · 07/11/2019 22:06

I have a Roomba and I love it! It is quite noisy and loves wires but makes a sad sound when it gets stuck.

The DC have pointed out I talk to it like I do the cats and have been caught congratulating it on a job well done.

SavoyCabbage · 07/11/2019 22:08

Yes, my dh got one as hoovering is his domain. I thought it was a ridiculous idea. But I love it now. It’s made a huge difference to the general tidiness of our house.

notso · 07/11/2019 22:09

I have a Eufy, I was all set to buy a cordless shark but saw Eufy was on offer and much cheaper.
I love it, it makes us much tidier as it can't get round to do its thing if there's stuff on the floor. I leave to take the kids to school and come back to a vacuumed floor downstairs the put it on to do the upstairs while I'm picking them up.
I still have my Miele for a more thorough job as well as the stairs, skirting boards, sofas, coving and cobwebs.

OopsUpsideYourBed · 07/11/2019 22:10

I have a cheap one and I love it with all my lazy heart. Turn it on, sit down with a coffee, cleaned floors - win win.

mrswarthog · 07/11/2019 22:13

No, but the Warthog is away with work & rang me giggling to say his hotel has a herd of Roombas which appeared to be mingling by the main entrance, then dispersed off vacuuming madly. This was in Windsor btw if anyone wants to see them in their unnatural habitat Grin

Profilejacket · 07/11/2019 22:14

Yes-we have a eufy. It’s great. Just potters around doing its thing and gets up so much stuff! Especially dog and human hair.
Love if so much-I’m tempted to get another one so I can have one on each floor Blush

SummerBreezemakesmefeelfine · 07/11/2019 22:15

Thanks for the replies, it sounds encouraging. We have an ancient Dyson Animal hair which has served well but now due for a replacement. It would be the first time I asked for a hoover for Xmas but am very tempted.

Isitme13 · 07/11/2019 22:16

Yes, as others have said, it’s a game changer.

I’ve had a robot hoover for years now, and it’s so fabulous. I do still have a ‘big’ hoover to do corners, bits the robot can’t get round, but it really helps me feel as though I’m keeping on top of the chaos (without doing the actual legwork Grin)

TweetleBeetlesBattle · 07/11/2019 22:18

I have a Miele. Can't recommend it at all, I actually hate it. Keep saving for the roomba.

MeMeMeYou · 07/11/2019 22:22

Got an eufy and I bloody love it! Vacuums pretty much as well as a normal hoover albeit a bit more random in its patterns. It’s great on carpet and hard floor. It’s great as I can do other jobs whilst it gets on. I do have a shark and it’s a bit better but I only do a deep clean hoover with it every few weeks to a month with eufyinbeteeen

MeMeMeYou · 07/11/2019 22:23

Got eufy on an amazon prime offer it was 119£ I think

Chickydoo · 07/11/2019 22:25

Have a roomba and I love it!
Has been used every day for 2 years and still working like a dream. Picks up so much. We have wooden flooring downstairs & carpet upstairs & does both very well.
Highly recommend

Pretzelcoatl · 07/11/2019 22:26

Just going to pitch again for the Neato that I have - it’s shaped like a capital D so it’s quite good at doing corners.

EKGEMS · 07/11/2019 22:33

It's fine for hardwoods but not for area rugs we've found

k1233 · 07/11/2019 22:39

I love mine! Mine also mops. Haven't trotted out the expensive vacuum in years. Nearly cried the morning Dee (it's a Deebot, so I her Dee) refused to move. I meticulously clean her before recharging and get rid of anything wrapped around the sweeper, but what appeared to be a fixed end actually comes off and had over a years worth of hair and fur wrapped around it. Removed that and all good again Grin

You do realise you're lazy when it's an effort to turn on the robo vac! You know, getting dog dishes and teddies out of the way and straightening the rugs so she doesn't get stuck. Exhausting LOL

I love that she gets under the beds, couches and low cabinets.

Running daily really makes you feel like a grub with all the dirt and hair they pick up.

Deebot was much cheaper than roombas and I wanted to try one out without too much risk if it wasn't as good as I imagined it would be. I got it online at half price, so a good option. Dee doesn't have the barriers etc that more expensive types have, but she's easily foiled by a rolled up rug edge or basket so she stays where I want her.

snozzlemaid · 07/11/2019 22:41

I've had a Eufy for a couple of weeks and I love it. I've got mine scheduled to go a few times a week early in the morning, so I get up to clean floors.
Best thing I've bought in a long time.
