Yesterday I took delivery of a new handheld cordless mini vacuum and I couldn’t wait for it to charge up so I could go and Hoover my skirting boards without having to drag the massive big Dyson around the house! I was so excited I was going round the house last night looking for things to Hoover up! My husband called me sad but I was so happy!

I also love buying anything new for the kitchen. I bough a multi bladed herb cutter the other day and oh it gave me such pleasure to use it on some parsley for dinner!

When I was at uni I used to love buying matching stationary which some people might think is a bit sad.

I am a married 33-year-old mother of one and this is my life now Grin

What are your nerdy/sad/uncool things in life that bring you excitement/joy?

@sweetsaltypopcorn, I was right with you there until you got to Hetty Wainthropp.

Superleo837 · 08/11/2019 22:25

Paternoster love it 🤗

TildaKauskumholm · 08/11/2019 22:32

Great thread, OP, lovely to read about what everyone gets excited by. For the PP who mentioned boat names, the best one I've ever seen 'A l'eau c'est l'heure' which still tickles me (say it aloud).

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 08/11/2019 22:40

A really good spreadsheet. Bloody love em, I do. I especially love it when I can add in complex formulas that link across multiple pages. I'm not an accountant or a statistician or anything, I'm a writer - so no professional reason to enjoy them. But they make my nerdy wannabe-maths-genius little heart very happy.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 08/11/2019 23:15

A new (work) diary.

My robot Hoover.

Chirality.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 08/11/2019 23:17

Oh and the concept of the lacuna ( lexical gap).

mynewusernamenow · 08/11/2019 23:51

Has anyone had an email from 'app store' re a geeky purchase after reading this thread or is this scam email coincidence?

KeepYourCup · 09/11/2019 00:04

Loyalty points; I get a ridiculous amount of joy from seeing them build up and planning my shopping around extra points offers.

I also love mental arithmetic and working out sums on paper. My boss at work despairs at this and is always telling me to use a calculator.

RhinoskinhaveI · 09/11/2019 00:06

Spreadsheets for me

VerbenaGirl · 09/11/2019 00:16

Love an Excel spreadsheet with a few formulas to count things or make certain things certain colours, I make them for all sorts of things!

historysock · 09/11/2019 06:53

I'm also a bell ringer. Waves at pp who also rings... I'm shocking at it tho...

daisychain01 · 09/11/2019 07:01

Learning to use new features in Excel (well, they're new to me anyway). And probably I get irrational delight when my Office 365 tells me it is updating because it may mean even more new features will be added to Excel.

Yay exciting Blush. Wondering why MN doesn't have a Saddo emoticon. It should.

daisychain01 · 09/11/2019 07:11

I'm partial to a bit of Latin @Cattenberg especially conjugation, declensions and turning English words into fictitious Latin (eg: several lettuces must be pronounced lettae, a bunch of asparagus are asparagae, etcetera, etcetera). And then sneering at my iPad because it doesn't know the existence of the word etcetera. Or the abbreviation of id est appalling Grin

squeekums · 09/11/2019 07:20

@BillywigSting
aew call wwe 'the company who must not be named'
Got a real Monday night wars feel to it. They've got some seriously good talent, even the women's division is not bad. Could do with someone like Asuka or something but lots of young upcoming talent.
And Chris Jericho makes a great heel

Lol, yeah Vince gets annoyed when AEW mentioned as they the best competition WWE has since the Monday night wars. TNA tried but never got it right.
I could swoon about Asuka all day, she so sweet IRL. Met her couple weeks back at the Melbourne WWE meet and greet. Such a talent and she loved my hair colour, bright purple lol.
The up and coming talent learning from a master in Jericho, he can do heel or face so well. Even Cody has a world of knowledge they can learn from. Which long term will set the company well

Inexpertjuggler · 09/11/2019 07:36

daisychain01 I love your latinising. Feeling your pain re etcetera. I’m also shocked at people who don’t know the meaning of ‘ampersand’. I used to place ads in the local paper, over the phone and the staff taking the ads very often didn’t know. I love my little personal world of words

Feenollfarleen · 09/11/2019 08:39

Microscopes and anything to do with them, I spend all of my spare time making slides and looking at them, even got a monitor fixed to the wall connected to a video camera fitted to my favourite microscope so that I can watch pond life. Hardly anyone understands...

Mutinerie · 09/11/2019 10:28

I love this thread, so many things to get excited about, like how many people are excited about stuff :-)

I think maths is the most exciting beautiful thing a human mind can think about.

I also am obsessed by playing the cello, even though I am not very good, I had to make a rule for myself not to play more than 10 hours a week, or I never leave the house except to go to work.

I love my slow cooker.

And finally I get really excited about space-saving devices or objects, like my e-reader, I threw away KGs of books when I got an e-reader. I was so excited!

OpheIiaBaIIs · 09/11/2019 10:36

Maps. All kinds. But especially nineteenth century ordnance survey maps and mineshaft maps.

And guitars.

M2B19 · 09/11/2019 10:54

My gift wrapping drawer.
I love to give gifts and wrap them beautifully so this draw is heaven to me. I love that I have cards in there for any occasion in case a birthday sneaks up on me Grin and it gives me great pleasure to hand over a lively looking gift and receive nice compliments. I also have a gift wrapping theme every Christmas which also makes me happy Grin

Sad I know but I can’t help it.

Vulgarlady · 09/11/2019 11:37

I love going to the dump. It helps that ours is a really well organised one with helpful people. I get twitchy if I see something being put in the wrong place. Sometimes I think I’d like to work there.

Another job I would like is driving the Google Earth car. I’ve got great local knowledge of all the tiny country roads and dead ends from my hours of looking at Google earth

EntropyRising · 09/11/2019 11:43

I adore the dump.

Vulgarlady · 09/11/2019 11:48

Entropy rising. My brother does too, and my dad. I love burning things garden rubbish too ( very rural). I’ve got my own incinerator

IamPickleRick · 09/11/2019 11:51

Hand spun hand dyed wool. And maps.

IamPickleRick · 09/11/2019 11:52

nineteenth century ordnance survey maps and mineshaft maps

Omg yes.
