Yesterday I took delivery of a new handheld cordless mini vacuum and I couldn’t wait for it to charge up so I could go and Hoover my skirting boards without having to drag the massive big Dyson around the house! I was so excited I was going round the house last night looking for things to Hoover up! My husband called me sad but I was so happy!

I also love buying anything new for the kitchen. I bough a multi bladed herb cutter the other day and oh it gave me such pleasure to use it on some parsley for dinner!

When I was at uni I used to love buying matching stationary which some people might think is a bit sad.

I am a married 33-year-old mother of one and this is my life now Grin

What are your nerdy/sad/uncool things in life that bring you excitement/joy?

... it automatically recognises what material you're ironing and sets the temperature accordingly.

Back on page one, but surely this is basically witchcraft?

ZazuMoon · 08/11/2019 16:07

@FenellaVelour I also really enjoy reading judgments, particularly technical property law, although that is related to my work. I even talked about property law as I was being stitched up from my c section (one of the surgery team with a neighbour dispute) 😨

I love car seats and also crash testing and safety features in cars. If there is a report of an accident and the pictures aren't gory (I think that's disrespectful) I love to look at the pictures of the car and see how in modern cars the shell protecting the occupants is intact whereas the bonnet and/or sides and back will often be totally destroyed. And the difference in older cars that don't have these features Shock

I will read the NCAP reports and look into foreign language reviews of car seats to find all the little details about them. I finally decided this year to try and get into the industry since it interests me so much and since then I've just indulged the geekery and let it build up.

Also safety regulations in general, not quite in as much detail but I like to know why things are the way they are and what can happen if they aren't correct.

@squeekums aew call wwe 'the company who must not be named'

Got a real Monday night wars feel to it. They've got some seriously good talent, even the women's division is not bad. Could do with someone like Asuka or something but lots of young upcoming talent.

And Chris Jericho makes a great heel

Nothing uncool excites me, i,m just that way. Some people are born cool, they dont try, they just are, whatever they wear or do is just cool. Im one of those people.

BetterEatCheese · 08/11/2019 17:48

I love micro scale photography so much it makes me tingle just looking at an extreme close up. Puts so much in perspective

Wingingit247 · 08/11/2019 18:08

Exams and tests, regardless of whether I do well or not!!

Smart motorways- I find them fascinating and super-amazing. I LOVE knowing ( and using) all the correct terms too ( that’s not just motorways though!) Gantry, Matrix, I’m your girl! Ha. Correct terms I like. Parts of a shirt- placket, yoke. I once complained at the cinema that the auditorium was too warm. Daughter was with me and the eye rolls I got! But what else could I say ( I protested!) cinema -would refer to the building, screen - would sound like I meant the actual screen. If I know the correct term, I’ll make use of it, as it’s exact, precise. I do get it though, it can sound archaic and pompous, haha. But - if I know it, I use it. It’s my thing

I got a draught excluder for my front door and that made me really happy.

upaladderagain · 08/11/2019 18:16

Paint brushes. Love, love, love new ones. I've spent many happy hours in diy shops stroking them, checking their density and the way they feel in my hand.
Then choosing paint and giving a room a facelift with my new brushes, whether the room needs it or not.

NoProblem123 · 08/11/2019 18:28

Horse stuff - I have increased shed size to accommodate. Bikes now wet in garden cos it’s just for horse stuff.
I like to go in and smell the different types of leather (English is the best but German also good), and bury my fingers deep in the sheepskin on tendon boots.
I look forward to taking all the bridles apart, soaping them up and putting all back together again using different bit/rein combinations.
I open window if it’s a bit stuffy in there and ‘cobweb’ regularly try to stop any spiders.
I’m like a pony mad kid who spends all her money on it.
Number of horses currently owned - zero

Celestine70 · 08/11/2019 18:29

History, love it, all eras. Also anything to do with space even though I don't always understand it. Oh, and octopuses they are fascinating. Handheld hoovers? Meh.

@SleepyKat

We have a paternoster lift at my work! It's out of order at the moment but it is sooo cool when it works Grin

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 08/11/2019 18:45

Can I just say that this is the best thread I've ever read on Mumsnet. Loving it Grin

sliceoflife · 08/11/2019 18:46

Checking how much electricity my solar panels are generating, then trying to make as much use as I can of the free power. I Charge up portable appliances, wash bedding and towels even if they would have lasted a bit longer.

I also get excited by long distance train travel, especially when companies bring out new rolling stock. I love to see just how little I can do a return from Yorkshire to Edinburgh using split ticket sites and rail cards. Even if it means I have to get up at 5:30am to save a few pounds.

pollyglot · 08/11/2019 18:48

Ancient Rome. Romans. Roman art. Roman military history. Roman forts. Roman politics. I teach it, read about it, collect books on it, travel all over the Empire. Ask me a question, go on..anything at all. :)

SleepyKat · 08/11/2019 18:57

@batleytownswomansguild

You’re not in Sheffield are you? I love the one in the Arts Tower and frequently sneak in for a ride! 😆. I want to try the one at Northwick Park but it’s in a staff only area.

SleepyKat · 08/11/2019 18:58

@BatleyTownswomensGuild. Sorry, misspelled your name!

BettyBloom · 08/11/2019 18:58

Books, I love books, books on the history of my town and the tudors. I also have to admit I do love a bit of Pokémon Go, gets me and the kids out the house on a daily basis for a quick search.
