To find DP patronising about Mn

Hibbsy · 04/11/2019 20:33

Long time lurker here, current sat watching Only Connect with DP as kids in bed, both on respective iPads. Hear him giggling and ask “what is funny?”, he says “nothing”. Giggles again and ask again, he says he’s on a forum he’s a member of (football 355 or something, I’ve never really asked) and there’s a thread on MN where they basically take the piss out of posts on here and he’s laughing at a post where someone here is upset about being though of as a lesbian from asking a friend to spend the night in comfies watching tv.
I thought this was a harmless forum where they talked about football and had no issues but apparently it’s more than that and the MN threat has over 10000 posts mainly taking the piss out of people on here, along with “blokes” threads about women. On one they even ask them to rate women as “minx or minger”
I’m was happy he has his own place online but feel now that it’s simply pandering to sexist misogynist behaviour. AIBU to think we can’t even have this place to ourselves without men using it as a source of entertainment to reinforce the idea of the “stupid little woman indoors”?

Wow. And this is the man you’ve chosen? Does he not get how this all shows him up?

PurpleFlower1983 · 04/11/2019 20:38

Some threads on here are hilarious to be fair and I’m sure his football forum has a fair few women too.

Hibbsy · 04/11/2019 20:42

Maybe but I’ve made hi, show me the threads and it is so objectionable, think every post on here being copied and then ripped to pieces by sad middle aged men who think we are all “SWTS”
I can’t belive this, he has always professed to be a feminist but now I can’t look at him without seeing a fat middle aged bloke who panders to all our stereotypes

OP posts:
Happityhap · 04/11/2019 20:44
Sad
Ugzbugz · 04/11/2019 21:01

Some of the threads are hilarious and the women mock men on here if they dare to enjoy computer games etc

PepePig · 04/11/2019 21:08

As above, some of the threads on here are hilarious and/or ridiculous. You'd be mad not to laugh at them. I'm sure most of them are taking the piss out of the daft threads... not ones which are obviously very serious and upsetting.

And, for fairness. I've went on Reddit plenty of times and laughed at the male-dominated threads which are tragically funny. Sometimes people post shit on the internet which is just daft. No biggie.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 04/11/2019 21:19

Wait till they start taking the piss out of this one and he realises its him! 😂😂😂

Elieza · 04/11/2019 21:27

Ha ha chorleyFM you said it. Grin

ControversialFerret · 04/11/2019 21:35

It's a group of men all ganging up and egging each other on for 'bantz'. They do it safe in the knowledge that nobody sees what they look like, and because it's not pictures of their daughter that are being pulled apart.

Is your partner a bit thick? I'd find it very difficult to be attracted to someone so hard of thinking.

leomama81 · 04/11/2019 22:02

What are SWTS?

I mean there are some funny threads on here, but the minx/ minger thing would bother me - is that separate to the MN thread or are they giving imaginary ratings? ☺️

Hibbsy · 04/11/2019 22:04

SWT = snakes with tits apparently, a catch all for women. Minx or minger can be anyone, famous or just someone random from another site, they rate them one or the other

OP posts:
ToPlanZ · 04/11/2019 22:37

Why are you with him? Genuinely? Why are you with a man who thinks that your gender is something to be demeaned and stereotyped? A man who is willing to disrespect you and those like you for 'bantz'.

I grew up in a very male oriented environment, and both of my careers have been in stereotypically male roles. I have spent far far more time with men than with women and I will say this. Yes there are plenty of misogynists about and plenty of silly immature men too who are threatened by women so spend their time mocking and trying to subjugate them.

However there are plenty of good men out there and some really great ones too. Plenty of men who respect their partners, are good parents, understand that equality in a relationship is beneficial and who certainly don't spend their time mocking half of society online simply because of their gender, because they re too intellectually challenged or too simplistic in their need for acceptance into a group to do anything else.

Don't you want to be with the latter type of man? When you sit there looking at your fat, intellectually slovenly husband who values women so little he finds it ok to rate them solely on their physical appearance while he buys into a football tribe mentality , do you find him attractive, do you respect him? Do you even like him?

I know I couldn't live with pitiful little creature like that. I prefer a man who is capable of independent thought rather than having how he should think dictated by some puerile bunch of sad acts,.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 04/11/2019 22:57

Have you ever heard of Mumsnet Madness on Twitter? It rips the shit out of the more extreme/bizarre threads on here with unrestrained glee. Even ON here, people mock MN - perhaps more here than anywhere. ‘What’s the most ridiculous thread you’ve ever seen on MN?’ is a very common topic. Why is any of this any different?

As for ‘Minx or Minger?’, MN has more than its fair share of threads on celebrity crushes or ‘AIBU to not find [insert name] completely unattractive?’ Again, why is it okay here and not there?

StillCoughingandLaughing · 04/11/2019 23:00

Yes, aren’t fat people awful and unattractive? Especially the ones who judge people on their appearance?

WorraLiberty · 04/11/2019 23:02

I can't get fussed about it to be honest.

There are batshit crazy people all over the internet, including on Mumsnet.

And I'm not sure what you mean by 'Have this place to ourselves'.

It's a public internet forum, open to all.

Spot on @StillCoughingandLaughing

This drives me nuts. MN double standards at their finest.

NearlyGranny · 05/11/2019 08:56

I think the difference is that SOME men can feel a wee bit threatened by women talking to each other and feel a need to monitor and mock.

I think most women would be profoundly bored by what men are saying on predominantly male websites. My DH favours one that features his car-related hobby and he sometimes imagines I will be thrilled to look at pictures of a car just like his but in a different colour...

Polite inerest I can muster, but I cannot imagine trawling a site looking for things to mock. I'd rather clean the windows, tbh.

Bezalelle · 05/11/2019 08:57

My DP used to take the piss out of MN, until he studied it as part of his Early Childhood degree course, and started to understand what it's all about.

Shoxfordian · 05/11/2019 09:03

He's really on a forum referring to women as snakes with tits? Wow. He's disgusting

misspiggy19 · 05/11/2019 09:13

^Oh get a life.

NewStart571 · 05/11/2019 09:20

I think I agree that mocking threads isn’t too bad on the scale of ‘badness’. Even I sometimes shake my head at some of the threads on here.

However, snakes with tits has shocked me. That’s horrible.

dayslikethese1 · 05/11/2019 09:25

to be fair MN is pretty funny; i find the cleaning/showering threads particularly batshit. Brightens up my day sometimes.

araiwa · 05/11/2019 09:27

However, snakes with tits has shocked me. That’s horrible.

Youre on a forum that consistently calls men bastards. So common it became an acronym too- LTB

InsertFunnyUsername · 05/11/2019 09:31

Oops, There goes Posters love for mumsnet robust, intelligent debates and ruthless advice reputation straight out the window Blush

The forum and your DP sound like sexist idiots though, He must enjoy it to stay signed up to it. So that's all you need to know really.

namechangetheworld · 05/11/2019 09:33

Eh. I couldn't get worked up about it
There are some bonkers people on here who rightly deserve to have the piss taken out of them.
MNTrolls on Reddit is the best for whiling away the time when baby is napping.
