To find DP patronising about Mn

Hibbsy · 04/11/2019 20:33

Long time lurker here, current sat watching Only Connect with DP as kids in bed, both on respective iPads. Hear him giggling and ask “what is funny?”, he says “nothing”. Giggles again and ask again, he says he’s on a forum he’s a member of (football 355 or something, I’ve never really asked) and there’s a thread on MN where they basically take the piss out of posts on here and he’s laughing at a post where someone here is upset about being though of as a lesbian from asking a friend to spend the night in comfies watching tv.
I thought this was a harmless forum where they talked about football and had no issues but apparently it’s more than that and the MN threat has over 10000 posts mainly taking the piss out of people on here, along with “blokes” threads about women. On one they even ask them to rate women as “minx or minger”
I’m was happy he has his own place online but feel now that it’s simply pandering to sexist misogynist behaviour. AIBU to think we can’t even have this place to ourselves without men using it as a source of entertainment to reinforce the idea of the “stupid little woman indoors”?

OP posts:
RhinoskinhaveI · 05/11/2019 09:36

Who cares if they think women are snakes with tits maybe some threads on here are somewhat risible, there are also lots of threads on here where where women collaborate, share their experiences and understand how to take control of their lives, if men dismiss us all as snakes with tits they are ones getting left behind and left in the dark!

NewStart571 · 05/11/2019 09:36

Do you not think LTB can be distinguished from SWTs though?

I’ve been around for a while and have only seen LTB used when posters think that a person has behaved in a bad way. Men aren’t routinely referred to as bastards. I’ve also seen men advised to LTB fwiw.

I understood that the OP’s DP’s forum acronym for women was SWTs. That’s what shocked me. It seems a bit hateful. If the usage is only when they are sympathising with a person who has been treated badly by a woman then I wouldn’t be so shocked. Grin

CAG12 · 05/11/2019 09:39

Who cares?!

araiwa · 05/11/2019 09:41

Piece of shit man- ltb
Piece of shit woman- swt

Same thing really

RhinoskinhaveI · 05/11/2019 09:43

The equivalent of 'leave the bastard' would be leave the.... breasted snake, bossmomed snake, mamarried snake, mammalian reptilian... Maybe we should ask David icke for the correct terminology?

rainbowconfetti · 05/11/2019 09:47

Oh come on, the level of shite posted on here is laughable. Sometimes I sit and read a handful of the active threads out and DH and I just sit like Shock

I think some people are naive and believe everything they read, if it's not an obvious troll post it must be real. The truth is loads of threads are made up shit.

And I am a lover of Mumsnet.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/11/2019 09:53

What a prince amongst men. IME, men who dislike or mock MN (a forum mainly populated by women) dislike women, possibly because they feel threatened.

Your DH is a revolting misogynist who dislikes women and believes they are generally more stupid and inferior to men. Are you happy with that?

Do you realise your DC will grow up with this as role model?

(Apart from the laughs on here, there is lots and lots of intelligent advice and support and it infuriates me when we are dismissed by men. I had a particular tricky problem at the weekend I mentioned to DH and his first question was "what does MN say to do?" He has also used it as a SAHD for advice on our DC with SN. This isn't particularly note worthy just because he is a man, it's just showing that he respects MNers - women - for their knowledge and opinions (and being funny as fuck) in general.

I simply couldn't share my life - or condone his attitudes/behaviour to my children - with such a dismissive, patronising, sexist fuckwit.

PS Mumsnet solved my problem for me - of course they did!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/11/2019 09:55

For fucks sake - anyone minimising this, what do you think about the snakes with tits comment?

Would you be happy with your DH/DP - or your DSs saying this about women?

WelcomeToShootingStars · 05/11/2019 09:57

You're a feminist but don't seem to realise that women are also football fans??

And half the stuff posted on here is anti men.

Jinglejanglefish · 05/11/2019 09:58

DP is on that forum and I've read that thread a few times. It is funny! MN is full of absolutely batshit posts and has a reputation for being ridiculous. I would never admit to anyone that I'm on here... I only joined for the conception board but that was years ago.

BigFatLiar · 05/11/2019 10:01

Who cares.

Mumsnet's fun, it does provide some real help but lots of it is just fun.

We complain about how horrible men are and how terrible they are in relationships. Fine. Remember though we're only hearing one side of the story and its seldom going to be favourable to the males.

Enjoy it for what it is and take proper advice from the pros. For all the misogyny we complain of this site is equally full of misandry.

Not all men are women haters and not all women are men haters, some sites attract disproportionate levels of each. Just go with the flow and enjoy.

WelcomeToShootingStars · 05/11/2019 10:01

I don't think anything about snakes with tits. I see plenty equivalent terms used for men by groups of women.

Like the whole prick advisor nonsense on Facebook.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/11/2019 10:04

Fuck me. This is depressing.

TheMustressMhor · 05/11/2019 10:04

You should see what is said on Reddit about MN...

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/11/2019 10:23

Their behaviour is disgusting and representative of institutionalised sexism and misogyny. Go on, tell us the name of the forum so we can have our own counter-thread where we rate them using similar terminology and we'll wait to see how long it takes before we get accused of man-hating.

TatianaLarina · 05/11/2019 10:33

Who cares?!

I’d care if my DP was a massive twat. A sexist twat to boot.

The real question is why you’re with him OP? There’s misogyny all over the internet but you don’t have to be with someone who is involved.

53rdWay · 05/11/2019 10:38

I think the difference is that SOME men can feel a wee bit threatened by women talking to each other and feel a need to monitor and mock.

Yes, this exactly.

There is plenty to mock on majority-male forums too (God, the drama on DH’s at the moment, they’re going through one of those huge forum splinter group splits) but women don’t as a rule track those forums down just to closely watch and mock them. I mean, why? What would be the point?

Congratulations to all the Not Like The Other Girls posters here who think they can avoid being referred to as a ‘snake with tits’ by loudly proclaiming that this wouldn’t bother them at all.

IWorkAtTheCheescakeFactory · 05/11/2019 10:38

It can’t be a surprise to you that lots of men love to hate on women surely? That’s what most of the internet is. It’s their favourite pastime. Your mistake was picking one of them to live with.

Usernumbers1234 · 05/11/2019 10:41

They going to love this one OP

53rdWay · 05/11/2019 10:46

Good Glosswitch article on the compulsion to mock and monitor Mumsnet: www.newstatesman.com/politics/feminism/2018/05/demonisation-mumsnet-just-latest-incarnation-witch-hunting

“You might not wish to say or do any of the things the Mumsnet crowd do. The point is that you couldn’t without experiencing a succession of put-downs, misrepresentations, trivialisations and demonisations. This tells us something about the ongoing status of women’s discourse, and the way in which a woman’s credibility is undermined not by what she says, but by the context of her speech within female-dominated circles.”

Usernumbers1234 · 05/11/2019 10:48

I’d definitely rather be a snake with tits than a cocklodger

leomama81 · 05/11/2019 10:53

Youre on a forum that consistently calls men bastards. So common it became an acronym too- LTB

That's in the context of specific men behaving terribly/abusively though, not aimed at men in general. I'd also venture to say snake with tits is a more vicious and inventive description than a common moniker dating back more than 1000 years (and generally said quite tongue in cheek as it is).

53rdWay · 05/11/2019 10:54

I’d definitely rather be a snake with tits than a cocklodger

Well, just as well if you're a woman, because that's what these men already think about you. You can put the boot into the rest of us to make them approve of you all you like, but misogynist men will still think of you that way. Even if you try to cosy up to them.

Enko · 05/11/2019 10:54

Some of the opinions said on MN I utterly disagree with and I will roll my eyes over them. Some people I think are just plain rude in how they claim they will say /do things. It is not my style. I have laughed at stuff I read on here as I felt it so absurd. I dislike when people suggest someone might want to go to "the other website so they can use hun" You see the same behaviour here on MN IMO.

is it right? No its not but its no worse because they are doing it there than when it happens here on MN.

You cant control how others react you CAN respond how you react. Tell him your disappointed in how he responded to it but its down to him about how he deals with it all.

littlepaddypaws · 05/11/2019 11:00

he sounds a complete twat tbh, why are you with him when he demeans women so much, he's indirectly having a dig at you as you are a woman
