To be fed up of the build up to the Rugby World Cup Final

It's on the news fair enough. But does it need to be so biased. I'm Scottish and I know we're out but bleeeeeeegh

But those regional news are just that regional. So the news around my parents is very unlikely to talk about rugby union and much more likely to talk about rugby league. Tbf england are good at football, they got to the semi final of the world cup and are not meant to be proud of that but wales can be proud of the same thing in the euros?
And the abuse said to me countless times for being english is ok cause of a media bias and according to some people arrogance? I'm sorry but I am sick to death of this. Rugby to me is getting spat at and called names. I now avoid our local town when there is a rugby match on. Do you agree with the abuse that I have received? In the name of national pride in sport? Do you agree that my dd should have to hear that her mum is horrible just cause she is english?

@ginnymweasley

Cool story bro. I bet my house it didn’t happen and you’re just inciting rubbish.

I’ve felt a bit flat all day just like when Wales lost last week.

MrsJoshNavidi · 02/11/2019 17:53

BTW the main BBC, ITV and Sky news bulletins are not the English news, but the national news.

England winning the World Cup is English news, not national news. But there is no one English news channel, just like there's no English government.

DH and I sometimes sit here shouting "in England!" at the TV when the news announces some change to the NHS or something on the national news.

Kittygirl47 · 02/11/2019 17:56

@Ginnymweasley

Spat on previously and now hearing “English Bastards” ? Ok Hun.

ManonBlackbeak · 02/11/2019 17:59

Ginny Ive only ever heard jokey banter directed at England. I don't know where you are but its not very civilised by the sounds of things..

Ginnymweasley · 02/11/2019 18:02

In 10 years of living in wales this has happened not just to me but to other english people. My children are welsh, they speak welsh, we own a house here etc still have gotten abuse from welsh nationalists. It's ok if you dont believe me still didn't stop it from happening. Luckily I have some lovely friends who have stuck up for me. Have you read the comments from welsh supporters about the English loss?? Would you find similar comments ok if it was the other way around?
A man outside a pub in a north wales city spat at me and my friends when I was at uni cause my friend was wearing an england top. This was 10 years ago.
Then today a man in a shop was calling the english bastards. Would you accept if an english person called all welsh bastards? I have heard many stories like this but welsh and s Scottish people refuse to believe it has happened.

Ginnymweasley · 02/11/2019 18:04

I'm in north wales if that makes any difference. Where I am now is not to bad but I used to live on the outskirts of a big north wales university town in a plaid hotspot and some weekends could be horrible tbh. Probably a combination of students vs locals and alcohol mixed together.

misspiggy19 · 02/11/2019 18:07

England players should be ashamed of themselves for refusing and removing their medals. What sore losers.

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 02/11/2019 18:09

People on these threads always trot out the old "english bastards" or "spat on" stories as though these things never happen the other way around. These things are not ok but there are arseholes everywhere.

SoupDragon · 02/11/2019 18:10

I bet my house it didn’t happen and you’re just inciting rubbish.

Do you say that whenever anyone says they've suffered racial hatred?

JassyRadlett · 02/11/2019 18:11

England winning the World Cup is English news, not national news.

Nonsense. Any country winning the World Cup is international news. The World Cup (either/any one) has never stopped being in the news once the last UK team was knocked out.

The knots people will tie themselves into to be able to nurse a grievance are quite something.

PortiaCastis · 02/11/2019 18:14

I'm going to move on lick my wounds be the bigger person and go to watch Exeter Chiefs tomorrow with my new fiancée.

Ginnymweasley · 02/11/2019 18:16

I'm not saying it doesnt happen the other way round btw but for some unknown reason it is generally seen as an ok thing to say close to wear I live as long as you are saying it about the english. I would be disgusted by anyone that says things like this but I am never believed when I say it happened to me.
A local family was in our paper a few months ago because they had had rubbish left on their front lawn, had had racist abuse thrown at them and the locals reaction was.... "that would never happen they are lying" the family had to get rehoused. They were asian not english btw.

Kittygirl47 · 02/11/2019 18:26

Give it up @Ginnymweasley

Anyway, beside this England/Wales/Scotland/Ireland nonsense, what’s everyone else’s thoughts on Faf Du Clerc? He is short, smiley with a huuuuge charisma. I luffs him.😍😍😍

PortiaCastis · 02/11/2019 18:28

Faff plays for the Sale Sharks and is a good scrum half, bit short for me but I can see his appeal

Kittygirl47 · 02/11/2019 18:29

@SoupDragon

No I don’t, but she was in here yesterday providing awful stories of being “spat on” 🙄 and now the latest.

Ginnymweasley · 02/11/2019 18:32

Ok I'll just go back to never mentioning it at all cause no one ever believes me. I should never have mentioned it tbh cause it's always the same when people do. I am making it up, I'm the racist one etc etc. If you ever feel like educating yourselves on some of the extreme views then read the comments section of the daily post website on any news story about england or the english. I am now going to a bonfire at my neighbours.

sofakingg00d · 02/11/2019 18:33

I wish people would think about replacing 'the english' with 'the chinese' or "the indians' and see if they still feel comfortable sharing their opinions.

One mans banter is another man's xenophobia.

derxa · 02/11/2019 18:34

Well this thread has taken a turn Confused

OP posts:
Ginnymweasley · 02/11/2019 18:34

Thanks soupdragon but I am used to not been believed. Yesterday I said the same story about been spat on and today I mentioned my daughter hearing the phrase english bastards so cause in 10 years i have given 2 examples of this behaviour i am a liar. I really am used to it. I think I just need to grow a thicker skin.

Kittygirl47 · 02/11/2019 18:36

@ginnymwealey

Have fun, are they Welsh and insulting you though? Stop tarring a nation.

Butterisbest · 02/11/2019 18:39

Ginny
I am now going to a bonfire at my neighbours
Is it a holiday home then?

Ginnymweasley · 02/11/2019 18:40

They are Welsh as are my children. I have lived here 10 years. Most of my friends are welsh. They are nice people so tend to refrain from insulting me. They also agree that there are a small proportion of welsh people that use sport as a way to insult english people. Will you stop using "the english" like all english people are the same. On this thread alone there are numerous instances of the english been smug or sore losers or cocky etc. Maybe people should stop tarring the english with the same brush.

Ginnymweasley · 02/11/2019 18:44

I am going to hide this thread now, I'm sorry if I have offended people by telling what has actually happened to me. I have spoken about it many times before and had the same responses. I am feeling very emotional now and I dont think this is a good place for me along with social media atm. Good luck to you all.

SkaraBrae · 02/11/2019 19:01
