It's on the news fair enough. But does it need to be so biased. I'm Scottish and I know we're out but bleeeeeeegh

Yes very emotional speech
Congratulations to the winning team!

Evilspiritgin · 02/11/2019 11:06

Well done South Africa,

I love watching the Haka , there’s a video on YouTube of a boys school doing the haka for a teacher who passed away , it was very moving watching it

SimonJT · 02/11/2019 11:06

They deserved the win, our game play was absolutely awful

derxa · 02/11/2019 11:11

SA defence too good

PortiaCastis · 02/11/2019 11:14

Ah well as I said getting to a world cup final is an achievement in itself, I shall go back to watching Cornish Pirates and Exeter chiefs now

SpookilyBadOooooooh · 02/11/2019 11:15

I can’t understand anyone who doesn’t support a home nation 🤨

Even less those who feel it necessary to be spiteful.

The Haka is brilliant.

TomPinch · 02/11/2019 11:16

Sigh... You can't write off the Bokke. Ever.

SpookilyBadOooooooh · 02/11/2019 11:16

@SimonJT grudgingly they didn’t deserve to win.

Hard to believe this England team was the one that beat the AB’s last weekend?!

JassyRadlett · 02/11/2019 11:20

But if Scotland were in the final, Naga Muchetty, Dan whatisface, Ben Shepherd et al wouldn't be blethering on about it and talking about 'us' doing well.

I assume you’ve never seen it when Andy Murray is doing well in the tennis. Grin

I’m Australian and even I’m pleased for England and think the excitement is nice. (Though I still have scars on my soul from 2003.)

derxa · 02/11/2019 11:21

Nice to see good old Bill Beaumont

My Dad played rugby for the Pirates but sadly no longer here, he would've been over in Japan if he was still around even if he maxed out his cards. He was a number 10 and a good kicker in his day, well anyway wish he'd seen us get to a final even if we did lose

raspberryk · 02/11/2019 11:49

@derxa yes we have a tv, I never just put it on though as it's only in the last year I've bothered with a tv license (for dp). If i put it on it's to watch something in particular usually something on demand or Netflix via the chrome cast. Not sure how to watch live tv on it to be honest, I don't think it's plugged in to an aerial. I'll have to work it out when sky arrives next month I suppose.

WelshMoth · 02/11/2019 11:49

Portia I hear you Thanks

Sexnotgender · 02/11/2019 12:05

I can’t understand anyone who doesn’t support a home nation

I’m Scottish but supported SA. I’m married to a South African, that trumps home nation.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoes · 02/11/2019 15:54

’I can’t understand anyone who doesn’t support a home nation‘

I don’t support arrogant home nations who have biased media support, ( did you hear the ITv Commentators wondering if England lost cos their bus to the stadium was a bit late 🤨🤣) gloat when they win and sulk when they lose. If it had been SCotland or Wales in the final I’d have been 100% behind them. England fans don’t support other teams in my experience
Absolutely made up that SA won, they deserved it!

SoupDragon · 02/11/2019 15:57

England fans don’t support other teams in my experience

Pmsl. Yeah, right. And the other U.K. team fans do 😂🤣

Ginnymweasley · 02/11/2019 16:07

Ahhh like the welsh fans who were so gracious yesterday... oh wait I saw a lot of comments on social media about how wales had been robbed etc. My dh will support any home nation that makes it the furthest. The same can not be said for his welsh colleagues. I fucking hate the rugby tbh, its weeks of seeing abusive comments on local news sites, listening to talk in the shops about how much they hate the english. But it's ok right cause its banter.... or something. Had to explain to my dd this morning why there was a man in the local shop ranting about english bastards at 10am.
In regards to the media, the news is the main english news channel followed by regional news. The welsh news has been taken up most days with talk of the welsh team which is surely the same thing.

ManonBlackbeak · 02/11/2019 16:30

I think the English genuinely don't see the bias towards their football and rugby teams like the other home nations do, to us its pretty obvious! They were insufferable during the football world cup last year, like seriously you've not won for over half a century now and counting. Maybe you are just not very good at it you know?

BTW the main BBC, ITV and Sky news bulletins are not the English news, but the national news.

SoupDragon · 02/11/2019 16:37

They were insufferable during the football world cup last year, like seriously you've not won for over half a century now and counting. Maybe you are just not very good at it you know?

And when was your home team closer to winning?

Ginnymweasley · 02/11/2019 16:39

And the abuse that english people get from other home nations is ok? So me having to explain the phrase english bastards to my 4 yr old?? I dont even like fucking rugby but 3 people today (welsh people) have come to me and gloated about england losing. I managed to make it through yesterday without mentioning wales losing to a single person. I'm just so sick of sport making it ok to be rude and disrespectful.
Maybe england needs it's own news then so as not to talk about english sport on the national news. Did you watch the special broadcast that bbc wales showed after the euros, the parade through Cardiff etc? I'm presuming that was ok as a news special? I'm sorry but in the space of 12 hours I have seen some horrible things about English people and I'm having to work out how I'm going to explain to my welsh children why some people think it's ok to call their mother names. It happens every world cup and six nations.
During the football world cup last year I had a newborn baby, I was wearing an england cricket top to tesco one day and a man started yelling at me that he hoped we lost. In the middle of the supermarket, yelling at a woman with a baby and a 3 yr old.

SoupDragon · 02/11/2019 16:40

I mean seriously, you're getting pissy because English fans were celebrating getting to the semi finals of the World Cup?? It says a lot about you.

JassyRadlett · 02/11/2019 16:42

BTW the main BBC, ITV and Sky news bulletins are not the English news, but the national news.

And 85% of the population of that nation live in England. Hardly unusual that the media will reflect the population, surely?

As I say, I’m foreign so no skin in this game. But ‘maybe you are just not very good at it you know’ about football from any of the other three home nations is pretty funny. (As it would also be from my country, we’re pretty crap.

ManonBlackbeak · 02/11/2019 17:01

Thing is though, we know we are crap at football.

Thats why Euro 2016 was such a pleasant surprise when Wales did so well, nobody expected it in a million years. We though we'd be home after the first round.

England always seem to have this deluded idea they will the world cup and the Euro's and then when they don't its never actually their fault for being rubbish, it always a referee or another players fault for cheating etc because you know they never dive or play foul themselves...

PortiaCastis · 02/11/2019 17:03

As I previously posted both teams have the achievement of getting to a world cup final and only one of those teams could win so sour grapes are not necessary and the winners are to be congratulated once again. I'm Cornish and English so I was hoping Luke Cowan-Dickie would score some points but hey it wasn't to be, he was in a final and I was sat on my arse so I won't complain, fair play to him the other players and all the other teams who trained day in day out for years, the best team won
Six Nations start in Feb so we have that to look forward too anyway

ManonBlackbeak · 02/11/2019 17:05

Ginny The regions around England do have their own news. The national news is for the whole of the UK, England, Wales, Scotland and NI.
