Jeremy Corbyn

I see so many posters saying they won’t vote for Labour as they don’t like Jeremy Corbyn - why? If the Labour policies are good then why not vote for those rather than the leader?

The rich do not want to pay their way and Corbyn will try to get them to pay their way.

The truth is that people like me and hubby who have some stuff through hard work (him mostly) and privilege (me mostly) but aren't rich will be obstructed from (further) social mobility by JC's policies. There are ways we could use what we have to get richer right now but for a variety of reasons,we've set ourselves up to have enough to live nicely now and weather any major changes with some cushion. I can understand why people like me are against this but I strongly believe in equality and husband strongly feels his family who have a myriad of social obstacles blocking their path should have more of a chance. Luckily, unlike some of his other (mostly male) relatives who have achieved some social mobility, he remembers the struggle and doesn't judge those who haven't managed to beat it yet.

NerdyCurvyInkedandPervy · 30/10/2019 08:54

Anyone who says they aren't voting Labour because of Corbyn is using a pretty poor excuse to justify where their vote is going.

You might as well just stand up and say 'i want the NHS to be privatised. I want our schools to be underfunded. I want nurses to rely on foodbanks to feed their children. I want austerity. I want the well off to avoid paying taxes. I want to work until i drop dead despite having paid into a pension all my adult life. I want to continue watching the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

It is your vote, and you have every right to cast it where you want. But for God's sake, be honest and find a better excuse than 'Anyone but Corbyn'.

StinkGhoul · 30/10/2019 08:54

I don’t think people understand the stakes here. If the tories get back in, that’s a mandate to demolish workers rights and sell the NHS off piecemeal to the highest bidders. We already know these discussions are occurring behind the scenes, and yet people are more afraid of what Corbyn could hypothetically do than what the tories are doing right now.

What exactly is it that’s so terrifying? All I’ve seen so far are proven lies.

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 08:55

I agree he's the lesser of two evils by MILES

Leflic · 30/10/2019 08:55

ChilledBee Quite.

NegroniOnIce · 30/10/2019 08:58

If JC resigned and Kier Starmer took over, Labour would have a pretty good chance in December I think

If JC resigned and Roland the Rat took over Labour would have a pretty good chance.

It's because of Corbyn and McDonnell that they're not already way ahead in the polls.

BIWitch · 30/10/2019 08:59

That's my dilemma, @NerdyCurvyInkedandPervy! There isn't anyone else I'd vote for - I'm certainly not going to vote Tory/for more austerity!

And anyone who thinks that the Tory party don't punish the people who work hard for their money is seriously deluded. Austerity has affected the majority of people in this country.

By the way, @Eleanorbellanor - paying tax is a good thing for all of us. And having a decent welfare system to support those less fortunate is also a good thing.

salcombebabe · 30/10/2019 08:59

There are a tiny minority of ‘lazy’ benefit claimed though! The majority of people who claim benefits are either; unable to work or needing benefits to top up the low wages they are paid, so please don’t think you’re hard done by because you work hard!

OP posts:
recrudescence · 30/10/2019 08:59

After a lifetime of voting Labour I will not be voting for them in December. Because I don’t want an anti-semite who supports terrorism as PM.

fedup21 · 30/10/2019 08:59

He’s genuinely dangerous to the future of the UK

Nope, sorry-I think that Boris is the one who this statement describes.

AmIThough · 30/10/2019 09:03

Corbyn said if he loses a GE he'll stand down. Enough reason not to vote for him I think Wink

I think Boris removing the Tory MPs whip when they didn't agree with him shows how much power you're giving to Corbyn if Labour win despite him.
It's tricky.

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 09:04

OMG Roland the Rat Grin Grin Grin

AmIThough · 30/10/2019 09:05

@salcombebabe then surely the solution is to increase the living wage (like the Tories have done, albeit not by enough) so that nobody needs benefit top ups - they only need to claim benefits if they're unable to work or if they're made redundant etc?

SpaghettiSharon · 30/10/2019 09:06

When I read statements about Corbyn taking money from those who work hard and giving it to those that don’t I realise what a brilliant job the Tories have done at turning us against the “feckless poor” in a tragic return to Victorian times.

Those that cheat the system at the bottom of the pile are a drop in the ocean compared to the tax evaders at the top. But those at the top write the narrative so what hope do the vulnerable have?

I despair for the grabbing selfish attitude of so many people nowadays - truly Thatcher’s children.

Usernumbers1234 · 30/10/2019 09:06

@fedup21

Care to explain why you feel that?

My view on Corbyn is that his policies will drive far more businesses out of the UK than even Brexit will. He will destroy entrepreneurship and aspiration at at time when the Uk economy needs it more than ever and in foreign policy terms he’s a spineless and indecisive wimp.

Why’s Boris worse?

JustAnotherMammi · 30/10/2019 09:07

I'm conflicted. I've always voted labour but I don't want to vote for Corbyn. I'm going to be paying close attention to polls and see how many other people feel the same way. But Cornyn is significantly better than Boris which is the important thing to remember. I wish I knew why Labour dont get a new leader.

salcombebabe · 30/10/2019 09:07

@Eleanorbellanor sorry my previous post was in reply to your first post!

I remember when Cameron tried to slash tax credit for mothers. My sister was going to have to get a second job. My parents were absolutely incredulous, could not believe that the government were going to cut her money, and we said to them, WHY did you vote Tory then? It was clearly one of their policies, if you think it's so awful WHY did you vote for them????

I still shudder when I remember the bewildered, incredulous look on my mother's face, but she voted Tory again the next time and will vote Tory this time, too. I don't get it. Except, they read The Mail and The Express.....

SpaghettiSharon · 30/10/2019 09:07

@Usernumbers1234 because Boris is going to privatise the NHS, destroy the education system and ensure his rich mates take the pickings of both.

SpaghettiSharon · 30/10/2019 09:09

Labour can’t get a new leader at the moment because of the bullying behaviour in Momentum. When Corbyn loses again they will be neutered hopefully and someone more measured can step in to steer the Labour Party back to electoral success.

Moonmelodies · 30/10/2019 09:11

Some people don't like him because he wants us to leave the EU.

GlitchStitch · 30/10/2019 09:12

I'm a lifelong labour voter. Like hell will I vote for a leader who has overseen such appalling anti- semetism and misogyny. He's a thick, bad tempered embarrassment, can't wait to see him gone.

fotheringhay · 30/10/2019 09:13

I've got everything crossed for Yvette Cooper.

JC can't step down soon enough. Not least because I'm extremely uncomfortable Grin

Imo he's been looking bored for months and will hopefully jump at the chance to go back to his allotment

JustAnotherMammi · 30/10/2019 09:15

Will see how polls are, but regardless it's very likely I'll be voting for the Lib Dem's.

Siameasy · 30/10/2019 09:18

He seems like a member of the loony left. It’s too extreme for me. I would’ve considered a less extreme Labour Party. But mainly the Self-ID thing; some of their antics around all that show they are not a party for women.
